I was prescribed sulfatrim DS for a minor bladder infection. Today is my second day taking it (fourth dose). I am now experiencing weakness, anxiety, minor headache, some itching of the skin, achy muscles and joints, pounding in chest, and just a general sense of illness. I'm wondering if these are severe side effects and if I should go to the ER right away or if it is ok and after I finish the antibiotics tomorrow these symptoms will go away? ## Hello, Emma! Does this drug have a long shelf life? Does it stay good after its recommended shelf life? ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic. It should not be used after its expiration date, because it will lose effectiveness. Using an antibiotic that has lost its potency can cause you to develop antibiotic resistant bacteria. Are there any comments or questions? ## when the medication comes from the pharmacy, there is not an expiration date on the bottle. my tongue became scarlet in color taking it. ## Do you think it may be a rash of some sort? I've read that this medication can cause an allergic reaction in the form of a skin rash. It can also cause your tongue to be painful or swollen. I don't know how common it might be for your tongue to turn red, but I would definitely contact your doctor as soon as possible to assess what it might be and take appropriate action for getting it to go away. oval shaped,v on one side&58/98 on other side.i was prescribed this for a black wido spider bite when i started taking it i started bleeding in my stool and my stomach is in an undescribable knot,i throw up and i pee every 20 min.it hurts when i eat or drink.im also taking celebrex with it and its all the same side effects.someone please let me know if you have had any affects like this and should i go to the hospital asap b/c i dont have insurance so i dont have money to waste at a hospital.the celebrex is a long white tablet with 2 yellow lines going around,top line:7767bottom line 200. ## yes! go in now. it sounds like you may be bleeding in your stomache. I have copd and have had declining lung function. We tried lots if anti biotic no change this. Finally my Dr. did a bronchoscopy and saline rinse and low and behold found two bugs that regular sputum tests missed. He put me on APO-Sulfatrim DS 800/160MG 3 times a day 2 tablets. I have been taking APO-Sulfatrim DS 800/160mg for 7 days and have 9 days to go. I have a burning rectum after using the washroom for the past 4 days. Can this medication cause welts and itching between the legs and genital area? I've been on these for 8 days now, 2 pills daily. Several days ago a welts formed on each cheek of my behind and now I'm getting them on the front and inside of my legs. Is this a skin reaction from the meds? If that is the case, as reported by the NIH, they tend to get worse with repeated exposure, so you night need to stop taking it and switch to a different antibiotic. I had an allergic reaction to this medication a few years ago and it was horrible.

Can I take sulfa/trim ds 800 with food ## The dosing and administration guidelines for this medication indicate that Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim can be taken by mouth with or without food. I take 2mg Ativan daily, 90 mg of Cymbalta daily, 105mg Methadone daily and sometimes use Zantac for heartburn. Are there any drug interactions I should know about? Yes, you actually shouldn't take the Sulfatrim with Methadone, it can cause a prolonged QTc interval of the heart, which may be fatal/ The FDA classifies Methadone as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I'm supposed to take one tablet twice daily until finishing treatment. I was given 23 pills for a urine infection and 15 minutes after taking it I got a rash all over. What should I do? I have been prescribed apo sulfatrim for a bladder infection - 2 pills a day for 5 days - have taken only 3 so far. I am having copious amounts of gas and feel nauseous. My face also felt on fire - not flushed though. Generally feel unwell. Is this a reaction or the bladder infection? ## I am on this drug right now Anna. Started using this medication (Apo Sulfatrim Ds 800 160 Mg) on October 22, 2014 twice a day (gap of 7 to 8 hrs.) with food & 30 oz water. Also I take doxycycline 100 MG (half pill) either 1 hour before or 2 hrs. after I eat with 12 oz water. Take vitamins with 12 oz orange juice. Totat input of fluids between 50 to 60 oz. - since and after I stated using Apo sulatrim, I am gradually losing appetie. sometimes do not eating.
