I've been taking Sulfasalazine for 3 weeks (500 mg 4x daily). The side effects are very wearing: nausea, low energy, sleepiness, general feeling of blahhhhhh. I make sure to eat before taking the pills, and I drink at least 8 oz of water with the pills. Any suggestions on how to minimize these side effects? I'm hoping my body will adjust in time. Any thoughts - anyone??? ## Unfortunately, there really isn't much you can do to prevent them, but yes, they should taper off and eventually go away entirely, once your body gets used to the medication, according to FDA reports. Generally that takes anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. You may also experience fever, chills, dark urine, nosebleeds, and pale skin. Has there been any change or improvement, yet? ## Has anyone had any success usi...

if i'm allergic to sulfasalazine and smz-tmp can i take neomycin. I have a total colectomy scheduled for Monday Dec 1, 2014 and I am suppose to start on the neomycin and metronidazole on tomorrow. i am terrified that I will have the horrific reactions that I had in the past with sulfasalazine and smz-tmp if I take this new prescription Please help if u have the knowledge. Thanks so much ## @Marvin, I would try to get a second opinion on this from your doctor, but from what I can tell, if you are allergic to both SMZ-TMP + Sulfasalazine, it's possible that Neomycin Sulfate may cause a similar type of allergic reaction. There are different types of sulfa/sulfonamide-related allergies that may not pose the same risks as others, but being allergic to both types I wouldn't even w...

Hello, I take .6 ml methotrexate weekly plus plaquenil and sulfasalazine. I've been completely knocked out with a head/chest cold for the past three days. Now my fever is down; can I go back to work tomorrow or will I just did myself in deeper? Any advice would be appreciated. ## FROM PAST EXPERIENCE, IT USUALLY RECOMMENDED NOT TO RESUME NORMAL ACTIVITY UNTIL A FEVER IS GONE FOR 24 HOURS. ## @Bratbaby, I agree with the previous comment, in that you should probably wait it out until you've fully recovered from the fever and/or whatever cold symptoms you might still have. At this point your immune system has to take time to build itself back up again through getting plenty of rest, proper nutrition, and not stressing out about anything. Methotrexate on the other hand, is known for...

I am currently experiencing an adverse reaction to the Sulfametazol (Sepran) tablet. A few years ago, my doctor advised me to avoid all sulfur group medicines. I'm considering taking Sazo tablets, which contain Sulfasalazine as an active ingredient. Could you please advise if I could potentially have any reactions if I take this medication? Thank you for your help. ## Hello, Arun! How are you? Yes, it may cause you to have an adverse reaction, since it is also in the sulfa group. Reactions to sulfa medications tend to worsen with time and exposure, which could put you in greater danger. Have you consulted your doctor? It would be best to do so in order to find out what medication you can safely take.

I have recently found out that my sugar level in my blood is 170. Took a zpack streroids for plantars facia, 60 days ago. Began taking metFORMIN 40 days ago. Also have hypoglycemia (take levothyroxine 150mcg). Also have arthritis take sulfasalazine, plaquenal and mobic. I am male, 52 yrs old, 30 to 40 pds overweight. Is it possible the blood count is still high from taking the steroids? Should I expect it to go back to normal in any certain time? Feel like dr.s are overreacting to level of sugar in my blood. ## A Z-Pack doesn't contain steroids, it contains the antibiotic Azithromycin and that shouldn't upset your blood sugar levels. It is also doubtful that a steroid would still have an effect on them 60 days later. And Hypglycemia is high blood sugar/diabetes and wouldn't ...
