Sotalol, sold under the brand name Betapace among others, is a medication used to treat and prevent abnormal heart rhythms.[1] It is only recommended in those with significant abnormal heart rhythms due to potentially serious side effects.[1] Evidence does not support a decreased risk of death with long term use.[1] It is taken by mouth or injection into a vein.[1] Common side effects include a slow heart rate, chest pain, low bl...

I am taking sotalol and my pulse has been between. 47 to 55 beats . If i exercise it will go to no more than 58. I feel ok. Is this a normal side effect fom some people on this med. should I be concerned ## Hello, Silver star! How are you? It would be best to have it checked out by your doctor, this is usually included in the medication information leaflet that you should see your doctor for a low or elevated heart rate on this medication. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and tiredness. Is there anything else I can help with?

ive been on sotalol since may of 2011 and my calfs and feet are numb or there just plane tired all the time. it bothers me to walk. i had an ablation of the heart in may. sotalol has improved my heart but my legs and pads of my feet hurt ## Are they swollen at all, or just hurting? Learn more Solatol details here. The reason I am asking is that there is some risk of developing congestive heart failure while taking this medication and that would start with peripheral edema, in most cases. Have you talked to your doctor about this, so they can check it out?

I am prescribed with regular Sotalol for my A Fib, but the insert says it's for ventricular fibrilation. Wondering if maybe I have the wrong version? ## HI, Rog! Yes, there are 2 version of this medication. Sotalol AF treats A-Fib, but the regular is only used to treat rhythm disturbances of the lower heart, which would be the ventricular fibrillation or tachycardia. Thus, you'd specifically need the Sotalol AF. The pharmacy can't just switch it for you, however, so you'll need to contact your doctor for a new prescription. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks. That's what the insert says, so I called the cardiologist's office and was told by her nurse that the regular Sotalol is appropriate for my A Fib! She was aware of the AF version. So now I...

I was prescribed sotalol 2 years ago for a-fib. After a couple days I noticed I was dizzy all the time. I would go down to my shop a find myself grabbing on to anything to keep from falling. With lathe, milling machine, tire machine. To fall into any of those and more with my head could be a serious medical problem. I wasn't having this dizzy problem before so I decided to quit the Sotalol and se if it was the culprit. It took a couple days but things got better and better yet as time wore on. After a couple of months I felt guilty about self medicating I started the Sotalol again, on second morning, I could barely stand up to get from bed to bath. I consider this a serious side effect, what are your thoughts? ## Sotalol is a beta blocker, and dizziness can be a very common side eff...

I was diagnosed in 2006 with a-fib and was on metoprolol along with another that I forget. In 2014 I had to get a new cardiologist, he put me on sotalol 120mg 2 x per day and 60 mg once per day. Then in 2017 my pulse was into the low 40s so now I have a pace maker. I still have a-fib once an while. My Dr. said it will never will go away. I also have had 2 abaltions, been converted half dozen times. All I can say about a-fib is you will learn to live with it. Because as all the Drs. say is a-fib will not kill us. ## Hello, Gene! How are you doing? Given the multiple issues you've had and your requiring a pacemaker to be installed, your a-fib must be pretty severe. If left untreated a-fib can be fatal, since it can cause poor blood flow, which could result in stroke, and cardiac dange...

Most comments are from a few years ago do anyone still take sotalol. I just started to take it and the side effect are unbearable......is there another medication I can take instead of sotalol. ## Hello, Gabby! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're so miserable. What side effects are you experiencing? The FDA lists the typical ones for this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, tiredness and weakness. How long have you been taking it? Most side effects will improve and gradually go away entirely, after about 4 to 5 weeks, once your body gets used to the medication. What are you taking it to treat?

Started taken Sotalol 120 for PVC's. It works and then it stops working at times and I go back to being uncomfortable. Dr. says its normal but not dangerous. I just need to know that I can live this way for the rest of my life. I'm tired or being scared and uncomfortable. I'm under a lot of stress. .Has anyone else had to live this way? ## Hello, Chickie! How are you? There are many people that do live long, active lives with issues just like yours. Your doctor is right, it is normal and generally not considered dangerous. They should tell you any warning signs to watch for, so you know if/when you need to seek medical attention. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you. Last 3 days have been good with very few PVC's. Meds work most of the time, and under str...

Anybody notice hair loss while taking sotalol 120mg for PVC's? What can I do about it. ## Hello, Chickie! How are you? Yes, that is a fairly common side effect of this medication, but there's not really anything that can be done, it generally persists as long as someone is still taking it. The only suggestion I can make is to ask your doctor about trying a different medication. Does anyone else have any suggestions? ## I have been taking sotalol for over 8 months now and before I was taking this medication I had a healthy head of hair.. now I am thinning for much...I mean I thought maybe it was my so called bad water in this trailer park ...but then I thought I'm going to look up this med to see if there are any side affects. then I came across this... has anyone finding any...

can sotalol cause pursistant cough. ## Hi roger, Sotalol can cause shortness of breath or wheezing as a severe side effect. In such a case, it is highly recommended that you contact your doctor immediately to determine whether or not you should continue the medication or opt for safer alternative. Side effects referenced from: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000923/#a693010-sideEffects I hope this info helps to answer your question!

I accidentally took my meds twice this morning. It was 5 mg eliquis, 125 mg digoxin and 40 mg sotalol. My question is should I skip meds tonight? ## The biggest concern here is actually the Eliquis, since it could cause an increased risk of bleeding/blood thinning. How are you doing? Did you experience any adverse side effects? Any time this happens you should go to your nearest ER or consult your nearest urgent care to be safe.

I have been taking Sotalol Teva for over 15 years and picked up a new prescription at Wal-Mart and received a different brand (Apotex). I called and the pharmacist said they were the same. My heart seems to disagree and is hopping around. Maybe like drinking coke for 15 yrs and then them throwing in a Pepsi. LOL. Is it my mind or what? My heart is giving me a "not in my head" reaction. ## Hello Jack, I hope that you are doing well. After doing some research I found that both Sotalol pills have the same active Ingredient SOTALOL HYDROCHLORIDE 120mg but where the two pills differ is the listed inactive ingredients. Teva reportedly contains these inactive ingredients: - Starch, Corn - Lactose Monohydrate - Magnesium Stearate - Povidone K30 - Fd&c Blue No. 2 - Indigotindisulfona...

Hi. I am currently taking Apocard (flecaïnide) 100 mg and Sotalol 240 mg together for eight years without any problems. My former cardiologist subscribed this combination for me. My current (but will go for a second-opinion) says 'it can be dangerous in some people and cause dangerous palps'. But. I had to try without the apocard: worse, other betablocker (nebivolol 5 mg): worse, lower dose of sotalol (160 mg): worse. I get bouts of very strong palps and a faster heartrate, about 140 when walking, I suspect SVT. Never caught on tape, even after 10 years of suffering. My question: are there any people online who take both meds for a longer period? I would like to change thoughts. Thanks!

My baby brother takes Sotalol and I was wondering if the chemicals of the pool have any effect on him? What other activities can he do? ## Hello, Jarlyn! How are you and your brother? He should be able to participate in his usual activities, unless his doctor has told him not to do so. But, the medication could make him more susceptible to the effects of the sun, so he may overheat or burn much faster than usual, thus plenty of liquids and a good sun block are needed. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

is there a safer alternative other than sotalol? i've been diagnosed with a-fib. I'm taking sotalol 80mg tablets teva. ## Sotalol is a drug used in individuals with rhythm disturbances (cardiac arrhythmias) of the heart, and to treat hypertension in some individuals. If I were to suggest some other alternative means of treatment, it would likely be more in line with a natural approach, including but not limited to the following: -eating a diet that is rich in fresh raw fruits and vegetables (juicing them is an excellent way to take in more than you'd typically eat in a sitting) -light physical exercise daily (yoga, stretching, rebounding, power walking, swimming, etc) - meditation (it has been proven that people who meditate often can eventually control their heart rate with...

I am quite frankly very scared about coming off of sotalol. I have been taking 80 mg twice daily for about 15 years for SVT. I am in the stages where I am thinking about getting pregnant and my cardiologist suggested that I try coming off medication as a first option. If that doesn't work the second choice of his would be to switch to Propranolol but it is not his first choice as there can be risks with pregnancy and that drug. Anyone have any experience weaning off of a drug like sotalol? I am worried because anytime I have missed a dose I have felt like absolute crap, kind of like a weird heavy feeling and shortness of breath. I'm also terrified of the hospital so the idea of having to go there to stop the potential SVT is also terrifying. :( Anyway just curious to hear some o...

I take Sotalol 120mg twice a day. Can I go off it or do I have to take it indefinitely. I'm taking it for PVC's and I now have a regular heart rate for the past year. ## Hi Elaine, From what I can gather, Sotalol is a beta blocker used for treating irregular heartbeats. There are however, a variety of different medications (OTC/Herbal/Rx) that are indicated for such purposes, so in my personal opinion, limiting yourself to just one type of treatment "should" not have to be a permanent/indefinite thing. On the other hand, it is up to you and your doctor to decide the duration of treatment as well as considerations for other treatment modalities. With that said, I think it would be wise to weigh out the pros/cons of taking Sotalol in order to better determine whether conti...
