Dr. put me on sonata 10 mg for insomnia, but I feel it puts me to sleep sometimes. However I wake up few times a night and getting less quality sleep, feel less functional next day because of less quality sleep. It has a 1 hr half life and is the mildest of all. I want to ask to try a diff sleeping pill, but nothing strong like ambien. Maybe lunesta? I don't want a next day hangover from one either. Any help would be great! Thanks. ## Hello, Ash! How are you? Lunesta could be a good choice to try next. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, funny taste in mouth, headache and cold symptoms. Does anyone else have any ideas or suggestions?

I was prescribed Ambien 10mgs, and it worked for a year. I started waking during the night and couldn't go back to sleep. My Psychologist prescribed me Sonata 10mgs a month ago, but it's not working. She is out of town this month, so I won't see her for a while. Is it ok to take 20mgs? I also take Lamictal 150mg and Effexor 225mg Clonazepam .5mg as needed ## Hello, Blackberry! How are you? I'm sorry that you're unable to sleep. No, you should not adjust the dosage, without your doctor's approval, especially while taking the Clonazepam, it could be dangerous. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Sonata as including dizziness, funny taste, headache, dry mouth and back pain. How often do you take the Clonazepam? That can also help with sleep issues. ## Hi Black...

Hi all. I've been on Ambien for about 5 years. I know I should only take them for 2 weeks at a time, however I have chronic insomnia and cannot sleep without it. I've tried most of the other sleeping pills, (lunesta, restoril, trazodone, remeron, serequol, most of the benzos, and the OTC diphenhydramine and doxylamine succinate) however, the only thing I've ever had success with is the Ambien. But, my tolerance has become absurd. When I first started taking it 5-10mgs would knock me out, but due to taking them for so long, I've built a tolerance. I'm currently prescribed 20mgs a night, which doesn't even touch my insomnia.. I usually have to take 40mgs or more to get any sleep. I know this is unhealthy and I want to switch to something that will still work, but t...

After trying Sonata for chronic insomnia, my doctor put me on Lunesta. At first, I took 1 mg which just made me sleepier and grumpier. So she moved me up to 3 mg. This works well but I wake up so sleepy that by mid afternoon I have to take a nap. By evening I feel great, am wide awake, and full of energy. I am a night owl so I stay up until 11:30 or midnight. I have taken the pill earlier but I stay up for awhile. Should I try to go to bed when I take the pill or wait until later to take it around the time I go to bed? I need hangover help. ## Next day hangover-like effects are a normal side effect of this medication, according to FDA reports. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, and odd taste. And yes, it should be taken within half an hour of when you are going to bed. Ho...

I've suffered from MOTN for many years and have used Sonata. I also tried 3mg Lunesta and took it before bed. I know that Lunesta is for use when you have 7-8 available for sleep. I wonder, however, whether I could split a pill down to about 0.5mg and take it when I have 4 hours available for sleep. Thanks ## Hi Jimmy, From what I've researched, Lunesta is supposed to reach its peak concentration about 1 hour after it kicks in and is reported to have an estimated elimination half life of 6 hours. This means that it'll take 6 hours from the time that you took it until half of the dose is no longer working in your body. So my guess is that if you only had 4 hours available you'd still feel it for a couple hours afterwards before "coming down" so to speak. But takin...

Hi, I am long time anxiety patient - i've been on paxil, buspar, lexapro, zanaflex, remrom, flexiril, tricyciclants, trazodone - you name it. Also, with this I have had bad insomnia. I will not sleep for nights at a time, and it is affecting my work as well as my social life. I have tried (for sleep) Lunesta 2-4mg, Ambien 20mg, Sonata 40mg, and Prosom 2mg. I also aso tried restriol. For anxiety I have been on Ativan, Valium, Klonopin, and Versed. At the time, none of the night medicines work, I will even combine them. My anxiety (which is so common in my family) keeps me up. The problem is, they tend to either prescribe one (sleep medicine) or the other (anxiety). I have insurance, and would be willing to see a doctor. MY GAD is so awful lately, it's maybe Er TIME. So, does anyo...

What is the strongest insomnia-medication to help insomnia? I've tried everything. ## Hello, Shelly! How are you? What all medications have you tried? There are some, such as Temazepam, that are quite strong and are often used, when someone has failed to respond to other options. The FDA classifies it as a benzodiazepine, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability. Have you tried cutting out caffeine and sugar? Have you tried keeping a strict sleep schedule? Soothing baths at night? Have you had a sleep study done? ## Sonata 10mg capsules are the strongest sedative hypnotic for sleep. Be very aware that it can and will cause you to do and say some really stupid s*** you won't remember. ## My br...

This pill ambien has about reached the sum of its potency for me, i have now tried the three kinds of zolpidem? The purple is weak, WEAK, it is not the same as the oval or oblong zolpidem even though it says it is on the label, this is the same medication you have been getting, it is not. What would be the next level of pills to take beyond zambien, without going to valium, for sleep terror disorder, staying asleep without dreaming, and lesser amounts of paralytic chemical being mass produced during sleep, such as is compliant with annoyo-scvhizophrenia? ## There are other medications available that are also in the sedative hypnotic category, what else have you tried? Some that you may want to discuss with your doctor include: Lunesta: and Sonata: ## Trazadone is the absolute best sleep...

Whenever I travel, I feel extremely fatigued. This causes sleep problem and I take alzolam 0.5mg (alprazolam) for that. Sometime when I am too tired, I take 1mg. This gives me good sleep of 5hours or so. If I do not take it , the next day is terrible and mind is not focused. I want to know if there are better available medicines in India to minimize the traveling fatigue which can be taken without significant side effects. ## I am not sure what is available in India. Have you tried consulting a doctor? Jet lag, when traveling, is perfectly normal and most people experience it to some degree, especially when crossing time zones and, for some reason, it is much more severe, when going West to East. ## I believe everyone responds to sleep-aids differently. I resumed using sleeping aids three years ago, and the Ambien I am taking does not have the same beneficial effect as it did originally. My sleep problems are affecting the quality of my life and I am wondering if Placidyl would again be an option. ## Your stuck with Ambien, Lunesta, Sonata and the benzodiazepines Halcion, Dalmane, Restoril, etc. Generic benzodiazepines may be BIOEQUIVALENT (passing the FDA's tests) to the brand, but they almost always are not THERAPEUTICALLY equivalent. Sandoz, a old and respected drug company, now makes ONLY generics. Your doc can ensure that you get the Sandoz generic (at least in my state) by writing "Ambien 10mg - Sandoz - tabs #60". Otherwise, most state laws rquire him to dispense the least expensive generic and they may or may not us...
