how do you keep sintrom blood level between 2.0 and 3.0, as it seems to sometimes go lower ## Sintrom is an anticoagulant that contains the active ingredient Acenocoumarol. There is no hard and fast way to keep the blood level constant for these medications. That is why your doctor has o do a blood test regularly to check and see if your dosage needs to be adjusted. Certain things you eat may also be affecting it, such as a lot of dark leafy green vegetables that contain Vitamin K. Are there any other comments or questions? ## Can you loose your hair by using Sintrom 4 mg ## Yes I had a Angiagram early this year and a stint fitter August since then my calf are swollen twice the size I have burning sensation stabbing pain dizzle spells but pain all day in my legs also from angle to knee ...

I am 74 years old. I am using Sin trom about 2 years, after implementation of the Pacemaker due to arithima absoluta. I have difficulties to maintain recomennded level of INR, between 2 and 3. During those 2 years I had tried with different dosage schedulle - changing dosage from 1 - 2 mg per day. For example: 2-2-2-1; 2-2-2-2-1; 2-1-2-1-2 etc. I have measured INR regularly at home with CoaguChek Roshe apparatus, or in professional labs, every week or more frequently depending on the oscilation of INR. Up to now I did not succseded to find proper dosage which can maintain INR in the range 2-3, nor can find reason for so unexpected oscilations in INR. No new medications, or life style changes have happened during this period. ## I am 74 and do not normally have a problem with the Sintrom...

I am a 64 year old male living in Spain & have been taking Sintrom on its own for about a week. I was previously taking 150mg of Heparin by injection daily + varing amounts of Sintrom. Whilst I understand and fully appreciate what the Dr.'s are doing for me,they say just 1 beer a day is permitable, that could present a problem when the temperature's touch the mid thirties, so what exactly is the effect of alcohol with Sintrom? ## mixing brandy with sintrom 4mg ## dringking brandy whilst ntaking sintrom 4mg ## Sintrom contains the active ingredient Warfarin, it is a blood thinner. They reason they warn against using this with alcohol is because alcohol also acts as a blood thinner, so it can severely increase your risk of bleeding. In addition, excessive amounts of alcohol ca...

I have a friend who has just started taking Sintrom, I am trying to help him sort out his diet, he has been advised to loose some weight, can anyone have a link to a site that could advise what foods he shouldn't have when taking sintrom, I understand it's foods high in vitamin K, but is there other foods which should be avoided. Thanks DG ## It contains the active ingredient Acenocoumarol, it prevents coagulation by working as a vitamin K agonist, thus that is the only dietary restriction. Learn more Sintrom details here. Are there any other questions or comments?

What painkiller can I get to go with sintrom Cant get tylenol in Spain ## Hello, John! How are you? Have you tried just looking for Acetaminophen? It may also be under Paracetamol. That would be the generic for Tylenol that store brands and such are sold under. Learn more Acetaminophen details here. If they don't have it available at all there, then I'd suggest speaking to your doctor to see what else you can take.

My father has INR 1.43. He has taken 1,1, 2 mg sintrom in three consecutive days. How mg sintrom will he take in matter his INR to be 2-3? Please ask to me as soon as you can. Thank You ## Sintrom contains the active ingredient Warfarin, this is an anticoagulant. It is hard to say, it can take several weeks for most medications to reach their full effect in the body. His doctor should keep testing his levels regularly and adjust the medication as needed, accordingly. You can read more on this medication here: Have you tried asking his doctor about it?

I am currently taking Sintrom because of a blood clot and my question is related to drinking alcohol especially now with so many Xmas events coming up: How much is ok to drink in one night? I am not a regular drinker but I do like to have a few when I am out which is maybe 1-2 times/week. I have spoken to so many doctors about this and it is very confusing. I just went to see a supposely high leve expert on DVT in the UK and he told me I could drink no problem as long as I didnt fall over and hit my head or vomit but most of the doctors I have previously consulted, mainly in Spain, have told me not to drink more than 1-2 beers!!! Who should I trust?? Thanks, Mick ## Trust that UK expert. There is not much of risk of bleeding when combining Sintrom with alcohol. Avoid to get too drank - ...

I am 63 and because of the arrhythmias the doctor prescribe to use cordarone .After 1.5 year of using cordarone the doctor says to stop taking sintrom directly ( not by minimizing the dosage) and instead to use Aspirin. Do the use of cordarone make unnecessary to take sintrom? Its ok to stop the Sintrom directly after almost 2 years of using it? ## Hi, Seni! The Aspirin he's advised you to take will work similarly to the Sintrom, since it also works as a blood thinner. Learn more Aspirin details here. Stopping the Sintrom abruptly, without taking anything to work as a blood thinner could cause problems, but that's likely why he told you to take the Aspirin. However, you should check with your doctor to be certain. Ae there any other questions or concerns?

My mother in law is taking Sintrom 4 mg and she wants to know if there is a device or tool to do the blood tests at home, instead of going to a laboratory. We live in Tampa, FL. and we dont know. She just came from Spain to reside with us. Your feedback will be highly appreciated. ## Yes, there are meters available for self INR testing, at home. I am not sure of the prices or specific details, such as whether or not she will need a doctor's prescription, but Philips has one available, you can contact them for more information at: 888-744-5477 Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes! There is a machine called Coagucheck in Canada...it is great. Cost about $500 Cdn and is completely portable. I am sure there is a simailr one in the US.

I have been taking Sintrom (10 yrs) as I have 12 stents around my heart. I still have angina. I recently went to A&E after a fall, and the duty doctor looked at my medications Plavix/Aspirin/Sintrom, and seemed horrified that I take ALL of these. My blood is so thin, that if I even scratch my arm casually, it takes up to an hour to stop, my sheets are a mess each morning. Is the above combination TOO MUCH thinning? I darent even eat a single piece of green veg!!! ## Hi Olivo. Aspirin and Sintrom are not a very good combination as i heard the doctor saying. You should research possible drug interactions between these two pills. Best regards.

Another day, another blood test! Father, 82, had an ICD fitted Oct '15 after 6 week check he was started on blood thinner Sintrom Dec '15. Initial dose of 14g reduced to 10g, then 9g. INR today was 5.9 & re-test was 6.3! After discussion with hospital he has now been prescribed1g/day for 14 days then another good test. How long does it usually take to settle on a dose that keeps the INR stable between 2.0 & 3.0. ## Should read Sintron. Dark U/A prompted a clinic visit last Sunday. Nurse said this was common. Strip test showed no probs. INR was 6+ then 5+ & finally 2.9 which got me thinking as to the accuracy of the testers (see other discussion). The lower INR is the first time it's been between the goal of 2 & 3 which is great & perhaps shows the decreas...

i had a 1 blood clot on each lung. Will I be on sintrom for the rest of my life ? ## Some people do need to take it for life, but not all, it depends on the severity of your condition, and whether or not you develop anymore clots. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. Are you on any other medications?

I have to start taking Sintrom today. Do l have to take it at the same time every day, and if so, when is the best time of day to take it? Lastly, is it still OK to fly whilst taking Sintrom? ## Sintrom contains the active ingredient Warfarin, it is a blood thinner and yes, it should be taken at the same time, every day. As to flying, yes, you can do so, however, there are some things you should be aware of, before you do so. If you are prone to clotting, and actually anybody should do this, if you are on a long flight, make sure you get up every few hours and move around a bit. Don't just stay sedentary in your seat. The recycled air in the cabins tends to be very dry, this can lead to dryness of your nasal passages and could result in them cracking or bleeding, which you don't...
