Sinemet Carbidopa + Levodopa

Carbidopa/levodopa, also known as levocarb and co-careldopa, is the combination of the two medications carbidopa and levodopa.[1] It is primarily used to manage the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, but it does not slow down the disease or stop it from getting worse.[1] It is taken by mouth.[1] It can take two to three weeks of treatment before benefits are seen.[2] Each dose then begins working in about ten minutes to two hours w...

I have been extremely lightheaded taking sinemet 25/100 3 and 4 times daily. Can it be taken once daily? ## Hello, Judy! How are you feeling? Has there been any change? You should take it according to your doctor's prescribing instructions. Side effects are typically transient and tend to go away, once your body gets used to a medication, but that usually takes about 4 to 5 weeks of taking it at the same consistent dose, as reported by the NIH. Other side effects may include nausea, and headache.

Itake 1.5mg mirapex 3 times a day,i take 12 sinemet 25/100 through a course of a day i want to know how do i go about getting myself off these 2 meds my life course has changed i dont need them anymore[PARKINSONS DISEASE]. ## Hi, Kevin! To avoid withdrawal and rebound effects, tapering is usually done very, very slowly. The current preferred method is to have the person start to skip doses, or stretch out the time between when they take them. Such as taking them every 10 hours, rather than every 8 and then slowly lengthening the time even further. But this method can take weeks or months. However, you should consult your doctor to see what method is safest for you. Have you consulted your doctor, yet?

Ive just spoken to an 8o yr old lady who has been prescribed neurantin2 for restless leg syndrome. I am queering this as I am a huge suffer of RLS and sinemet is the more common med for this--then permax which are also for parkinsons . She has to take one neurantin in the sfternoon and then has to set her alarm at !.30am to take another or else her RLS kicks in Can anyone tell me if she may have been given the wrong Med for RLS ## Well, it is not approved for that use, but some doctor's do learn off-label uses for drugs and it is perfectly legal and acceptable for them to prescribe them for such. As to this one, if it does help, them there is no harm in her taking it, it does have less side effects and fewer drug interactions than the others that are commonly prescribed for RLS. As ...

I have been taking sinemet 25/100 for parkinsons. I was taking 8 a day with dr. permission. I began taking more without permission to ward off what i call parkinsons attacks. My dr scolded me and told me to try to go back to 8. I feel the need for another doe before time for the scheduled dose if i only take 8 a day. I realize its like withdrawl from drugs. but do you have any suggestions for me to keep feeling ok without the extra pills? ## Hello, Pam! How are you? Sinemet doesn't work that way, actually. You can't just randomly take more some days to ward off symptoms. For it to be effective a consistent dose needs to be taken daily for about 4 to 5 weeks. It also won't cause severe withdrawal symptoms, since it's not a habit forming medication and you're still tak...

My dad just started Sinemet 1/2 pill of 25-100 once a day. I read from various websites that one of the side effects is Atrial Fibrillation from taking this medicine. I'd like to solicit your experience on the use of this drug, particularly related to possibility of causing Atrial Fib. Thanks. ## It has been known to cause irregular heart beats, according to FDA reports, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination. Are you on any other medications? What does his doctor think has caused it? The NIH does list it as possibly being caused by various medications, as well as various medical conditions, thus there is a chance there might be more at play here than the Sinemet.

My father (63), PD patient for around 20 years. We always had hard time adjusting a perfect dosage for him. # Right now he is in 8 sinemet (25/100) pills 4 hrs apart. One every dose he takes 1 regular and 1 CR Problem: the only good onstate he gets is after first dose. But in the afternoon most of the time the meda dont work Other: he takes ropinirole (.25) 3 times and Amantadine (100) 2 times Need help, 1. Can i increase hos dosage? 2. Any other meds can improve Sinemet effectiveness? ## Hello, Muhammad! How is your dad doing? You shouldn't adjust the dosage of any of his medications, without his doctor's approval. The generic 50-200 carb/levo seems to not be as effective as sinemet. should I get only sinemet, not generics ## If the sinemet works better I would stay with that. Especially when u are not having good results on the generic. Talk to your doc & request "Dispense As Written" and have script written for sinemet. ## Great advice Tracy! I thought I'd mention that generic medications are allowed (by the FDA) to contain up to 20% more or less of the actual active ingredients. This factor, along with different inactive ingredients (binders/fillers) could enable you to have a completely different reaction to each medication. Therefore, that may be the cause of the problem you're having with the generic. I've also read that one pill amongst an entire pack/bottle of a gen...

Payless says Mylan is no longer making this generic Sinemet cr 25/100 tab. I cannot use Sun manufacturing company. I need help. I take 1 purple pill that has 88 on one side and Mylan on the other every 3 hours. I am 83 with advanced Parkinson's. ## Have you spoken to your doctor about the problem? If so, what have they advised? I see that the brand name of the time released formulation has been discontinued, but there are several generic options available, including one manufactured by Alembic Pharmaceuticals that was approved in 2019. Why can't you take the one manufactured by Sun? The FDA lists the typical side effects of Sinemet as possibly including nausea, dizziness, confusion, hallucinations, depression, and strange dreams.

I take generic Sinemet 25/100. What is the difference between Rytary and Sinemet, besides price? ## There is no different, both the CR and ER just designate them as being time released formulation of the medication, according to the NIH, otherwise, the active ingredients and the way they act in the body are the same. If one is too expensive, there is no harm in trying the cheaper versions, all are still approved by the FDA. The typical side effects of this medication are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, rash, hiccups, and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

My mother had taken sinemet for about 6 years, but her doctor had recently changed it for Rytary because sinemet was not helping her anymore. Since she is taking Rytary 36.25 mg/145 mg 4 times a day, she had felt better except for the dyskinesia she had for the past month. However, she started feeling muscle weakness 4 days ago. It looks like she is starting to have dystonia in her left hip and leg. Im not pretty sure if she has that but she shows symptoms of such. She starts to have that symptom after the third dose of Rytary like after 2:30pm. I dont know if she has that because of the med side effects or she is having that because its part of the disease progression. Im honestly concerned about it. Can anyone tell me if dystonia or muscle weakness is one of the Rytary's side effe...

I've had severe RLS for 40 years and over the years have tried everything. Sinemet worked well for years, then augmentation and rebound set in. Requip didn't help. Have tried at varying times: darvocet, fentanyl, valium, klonopin. Finally found relief about 7 years ago with Methadone 10 mg twice daily and am able to rest at night and function well at work. I am moving to San Francisco in a week and will need a doctor to prescribe. Does anyone know a doctor who understands RLS or a pain doctor that will Rx opioid longterm? Thank you.
