I started Saphris a few months ago and it has been great. It is not a pill to swallow, it is like a tiny little white pancake you put under your tounge. You can't eat/drink for 10 minutes. They came out with a new black cherry taste so it does not bother me a bit. Anyways, it is helping me think clearer. I have also been a lot less hungry and i think i am losing a few pounds! My insurance didn't take it either but then i got a prior authorization and it was approved for the maximum amount and i am to the max dose and my insurance pays for it except i have to pay about 4$ a month for it...so it also helps with sleep, bipolar and schizoaffective disorder. I would highly recommend it,,, ## Awesome! I'm very glad that it's working so well for you! Have you experienced any of...

My doc started me on Saphris to augment Wellbutrin and Brintellix for my depression. The first night taking it, I fell asleep really quickly. I woke up early but was nauseated all day. Thank goodness, it was a Sunday because I was useless for most of the day. Took it Sunday night, slept well enough but had crazy dreams. I felt okay in the AM then my head started pounding and I felt like my head was "swimming" all day. Now I am so nauseated again that I am in bed at 7:30pm. I know it takes some time for your body to get used to a new med. Tonight will only be my 3rd dose of 5mg, I don't know if it's too soon to throw in the towel but I can't be sick like this for days or weeks. Sorry I'm so long winded. Any suggestions? Thanks. ## Hello, Jenn! How are you? Has the...

I have been off of 5 mg Saphris for 2 weeks. I have experience severe dehydration, weakness, dry mouth, and fatigue being off of it. I had to be treated with an IV a couple days ago because I was so dehydrated. Has anyone else ever experienced these Saphris withdrawal symptoms? I am especially concerned about the severe dehydration. ## How are you ending up so dehydrated? Are you urinating a lot, vomiting, or have diarrhea? There has to be some underlying cause, even though it may be due to the withdrawal. To become dehydrated, you have to be putting out more fluid than you're taking in, as explained by the NIH. Have you tried upping your fluid intake? Generally, it's best to avoid fruit juices, because some may cause diarrhea, but water or Pedialyte are both good choices, espec...

I'd like to hear from people who have taken this drug and what their feedback is. ## What side effects did you have from taking saphris? ## I have been taking Saphris for over a year and find it very helpful for my bipolar disorder - I have insurance and can't afford it! How does everyone pay for it??? My co-pay is $200. ## Contact the Schering Corporation, most drug companies have programs to help with the cost of the drug. ## I was falling down 'drunk' from the first dose. Literally crawling on hands and knees when it's effect hit me. This was at the lowest dose. While it did interrupt my manic episode after the second dose - taken at my Doctor's direction - I could not tolerate it. I am 5'4 and weigh 116lbs. The Doctor called at intervals throughout the da...

Does any women have problem with not having a regular period or any at all? sometimes I have spotting and I know this is from the saphris as there is no way I could be pregnant. ## This isn't listed among the side effects of Saphris, as provided by the FDA. However, most medications that work on brain chemicals can also have an effect on hormones and may cause irregular cycles. Have you spoken to your doctor about it? Are you on any other medications? The FDA lists the typical side effects of Saphris as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, weight changes and mood swings.

I was given saphris for depression. Saphris is a brand new drug but its labing is not for depression. Has anyone else took this medicine ## Hi Beth, I was prescribed Saphris recently for a severe and long-term depression. I have chosen not to take this drug since my APRN, in response to my questions, had no idea why or how it would work for a depressed patient. Given her lack of knowledge about prescribed Saphris off-label for depression, I've opted not to take it. Good luck with your decision. Grace ## I have just recently started taking saphris other than the nasty taste I thnk its working great deffenitly with sleep as well. You should give it a try. Good luck ## I just started taking it for depression, after 15 years of other meds failing to help. My psychiatrist is prescribing ...

I suffer from severe migraines, insonomia, panic attacks, etc... I'm 32 years old and was diagnosed at age 12. I struggled by being a guinea pig. I gain or lose weight and sleep too much or not at all, among many other things. My main question is, will saphris make me gain weight? Thank you. ## Yes, the FDA does warn that as being a possible side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, sedation, drowsiness, and mood changes. Are you on any other medication? What exactly have you been diagnosed with?

My son takes Saphris for Bi-polar disorder, our pharmacist (rite aid) said it is on back order and can no longer get it from any supplier! Is there a shortage? Or is it discontinued or both? ## Hello, Veve! How are you and your son? I'm sorry that you're having a problem finding his medication. However, I haven't been able to find anything listed with the FDA that there is a shortage or that it's been discontinued. But it's important to note that companies aren't actually required to report them, it is a voluntary thing. Saphris is listed as being an atypical antipsychotic that may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, weight changes, dry mouth and somnolence. Have you contacted his doctor? He might need to have something else prescribed, in the meantime...

Can a 60mg morphine pill be mixed with SAPHRIS 10MG SUBLINGUAL TABLET, I take two 10mg saphris tablets a day, normally at bedtime. I just want to know if it is safe or not. Please help me with this very important question. ## IF A DOCTOR PRESCRIBES YOU SAPHRIS, OPANA, AND MORPHINE ALL TOGETHER, DOES IT SEEM LIKE THIS IS A SAFE COMBINATION? ## The Asenapine in the Saphris can be used with narcotic analgesics, however, the dosage does have to be taken under careful considered by the prescribing doctor. They do tend to have additive effects, which can increase the risk of central nervous system depression, which can cause lowered blood pressure, lowered breathing rate and lowered blood pressure. Have you discussed this with your doctor? ## hey so there is such thing as a 60 miligram opana? ...

I started talking 5 mg Saphris ten days ago and now have insomnia that has gotten worse. I have epilepsy and am seizure free but take three primary medications. Lamitical 800 mg (400 mg AM and 400 mg afternoon), Aptiom 500mg afternoon, and Clonazepam 2 mg at night for sleep. Last night I skipped the 5 mg and am going to start taking it in the mornings. At least my Clonazepam knocked me out as usual but I woke up at 3:30 AM and can't get back to sleep. Can someone give me advice? ## I would say persist with Saphris. The insomnia will pass in a few weeks. The benefis of a clearer mind outweigh the costs. For the time being if you get at least 4 hours sleep and are not too tired during the day you should be ok. Just be careful driving or using machinery. ## That is a known side effect o...

I've been having serious memory trouble, like not being able to remember movies or TV that I should be able to enjoy. I recall only facts from my past with all important details gone, which is not good. All important stuff related to my field like being able to remember information contained in books is gone. Although I try to design circuits and program most days. It's my life's goal to get back to being as good as I was at the end of 2009 and reduce suffering to zero. I built robots for universities but when I took a job there was so much happening in my mind. I think if I regain by ability to form memories or recall enough of the past with sufficient detail then there should be less suffering. I am 29 years old, have a masters degree in computer science. I took a job in C...

Can a 60mg morphine pill be mixed with SAPHRIS 10MG SUBLINGUAL TABLET, I take two 10mg saphris tablets a day, normally at bedtime. I just want to know if it is safe or not. Please help me with this very important question. ## Has your doctor prescribed them both, so they are aware that you are taking both medications? Both the Morphine and Saphris can cause depression of the central nervous system and taking them together can have additive effects that may worsen it. Therefore, the dosage has to be carefully taken under consideration and calculated. You should also know to watch for any signs of it, such as extreme sedation, drowsiness, shallow breathing and lowered heart rate.

IF A DOCTOR PRESCRIBES A PATIENT OPANA AND MORPHINE, FOR CHRONIC PAIN, AND PRESCRIBES THEM SAPHRIS FOR BIPOLOR DISORDER, IS IT OK TO MIX THESE TOGETHER? IS IT A GOOD COMBINATION OR BAD? I KNOW SOMETIMES DIFFERENT PEOPLE REACT DIFFERENTLY TO MEDICATION, BUT I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF ITS OK. ## The combination can have additive effects, which can increase the risk of psychomotor impairment and depression of the central nervous system, so your doctor does have to take the dosage under careful consideration. They should be monitoring you regularly for any problems and you should be made aware to watch for any problems, such as lowered heart rate and blood pressure, in case you need to seek medical attention. Are there any other questions or comments?

I just started taking this medication and the day I got prescribed it my cousin had passed away the night before and I was really close to her. I took Saphris that night and it almost feels like my emotions were turned off. I mean I still miss her and it still hurts but the anxiety the constant crying the constant thoughts of her are gone. Has anyone else had similar experiences? ## Yes, that can be a side effect of this medication, as reported by the FDA, and other users. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings, and weight changes. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? Are you on any other medications?

My grown son began taking saphris 17 months ago.Although it helped him mentally very much,he gained over 50 pounds during this period and most important for people to know,he now has Type 2 diabetes caused by the saphris. This was stated by his doctor. His blood glucose levels were normal before this medication. PlEASE,anyone on this med, make sure your weight and blood glucose levels are monitored every 3/4 months. If you become very thirsty and have a continuous weight gain see your doctor and slowly stop taking it. Now my son is on 2 diabetes meds. Had his blood glucose been taken after a few months on saphris, if it was rising,he would have immediately been put on another medication. There should be very strong warnings to always monitor blood sugar levels even without a weight gain. #...

is there a common denominator between saphris 10 milligrams and suboxin 8 milligrams ## Hello, Jersey! How are you? No, they aren't related, at all. The FDA classifies Saphris as being an antipsychotic that contains the active ingredient Asenapine. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. However, Suboxone is an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction. It carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am 40 years old I am diagnosed Mania bipolar 1 and I have had gastric bypass about 6 years ago.it has been difficult to manage medications because of the way I now digest. The sub lingual was perfect. My mania is under control. I have regular periods now but the only negitive side effect I havent been able to manage is I experience pms for 1 day severe emotional crying. At first I thought it was depression coming on than I noticed a patern, the day after a crying fit I would start my period. If I manic cry 1 day month I can handle that for sure! So it must have and affect on the chemical imbalance during pms. I read that another side effect is lack of apathy. And for a manic like myself, that is a positve side affect. I don't feel needy, I am more confident, it takes less to upset ...

I was on Saphris for four years. My doctor wants me to wean me off of it because I am Type 2 Diabetic and my levels of sugar are raised. He doesn't want me on insulin. Eventually he wants to put me on Lutuda for Bipolar Disorder, but I am unable to sleep weaning off the Saphris. I am afraid of becoming manic. ## Hello, Candy! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the insomnia. Have you spoken to your doctor about it? They may be able to prescribe something to help minimize the withdrawal effects, such as the insomnia. You may also experience rebound depression, irritability and diarrhea. Does anyone else have any ideas of what might help?
