Relistor Methylnaltrexone Bromide

Methylnaltrexone (MNTX, brand name Relistor), used in form of methylnaltrexone bromide (INN, USAN, BAN), is a medication that acts as a peripherally acting μ-opioid receptor antagonist that acts to reverse some of the side effects of opioid drugs such as constipation without significantly affecting pain relief or precipitating withdrawals. Because MNTX is a quaternary ammonium cation, it cannot cross the blood–brain barrier, and so has antagonist effects throughout the body, counte...

I would like some feedback on Relistor 150 mg. I've been prescribed 3 pills every morning for opioid-induced or severe constipation. I am actually a bit nervous about starting it. Any info or feedback would be great! ## Hello, Janet! How are you? This medication is used to treat opiate induced constipation. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, diarrhea, headache, and dry mouth. What specifically makes you nervous about taking it? If you provide more details others might be able to address such issues for you. Can you please post back and clarify?

I have been suddenly taken off of movantik because my insurance no longer covers it. I took it for OIC, it worked very well. This past week I’ve had to go without it and and I have experienced bloating, anxiety, sweats. Also I can't go to the bathroom no matter what I take in its place. Has anyone experienced anything like this? ## What else have you tried? It's kind of hard to make any suggestions, without knowing more details. There is another option available called Relistor, but since it is a name brand, your insurance may not cover it, either. Ref: Resistor Information When I was on opiates for pain, I had luck with just increasing my fiber intake using a fiber supplement. What does your normal diet consist of? Do you take in lots of leafy greens, and whole grains? ##...

If you too are testing positive for hydromorphone but are taking only other opioid medicines (and that includes peripheral antagonists, such as Movantik or Relistor, as well as drugs such as oxycodone or oxymorphone): Please respond with what opioid(s) you are taking, and also if you are taking any probiotics, what bacteria strains are listed on the package? (certain bacteria are known to transform some opioids to hydromorphone) Was a GCMS test done? I'll keep a tally and post the results, hopefully helping everyone with this problem. ## This is just an update: I stopped taking both the probiotics and Movantik, and had another GCMS urine test, which was (finally!) negative for hydromorphone. So, this shows that either Movantik or the probiotics were the cause of the unexpected resul...
