I have been taking Ramipril (Altace) 10mg for over ten years and they have ALWAYS been white and BLUE capsules. Last week when I renewed this prescription, they were white and PURPLE. With all the news lately about counterfeit drugs on the market, this has me wondering. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know where I could have this new PURPLE and white capsule analyzed to see if it actually has the same ingredients as the previous BLUE and white capsules? I am in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

They changed my generic Ramipril to another with markings RDY 441. I was on generic Ramipril ( called Colbolt ) and it was working just fine for my high blood pressure. But this new generic brand does't help my blood pressure at all. I was told this could be a copy generic, what does that mean? Also the pharmacy told me that they can't get the Colbolt Ramipril anymore. Does anyone know what I am talking about ? Thank You ## yes i know what you are talking about. my ramipril is from cobalt. and yes you can still get it from walmart. watch closely these parmacies because they lie to you. ## RDY 441 does contain 10mgs of Ramipril, a generic for Altace. The problem you may be experiencing is due to the fact that generic medications are allowed to differ from the name brand in the ac...

how long does ramipril remain in your system ## The FDA classifies Ramipril as an ACE inhibitor. It is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, dry cough, increased urination and hypotension. The approximate clearance time is 65 to 102 hours, so it will take several days. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have had high BP for some time, treated with 10 mg Ramipril. The readings have always remained on the high side. Today the GP has prescribed 5mg Amlodipine to be taken in combination with Ramipril. Does anyone have any personal experience of this? Reading the side effects of Amlodipine seems a bit scary. ## Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and it has about the same risk of causing side effects as the Ramipril that you're already taking. However, the most important fact of relevance is that it's far more dangerous to let your blood pressure remain high than any possible side effects you may experience from a medication. Letting it remain high risks damage to your heart, which may be permanent, it also creates the risk of stroke, heart attack, congestive heart failure and...

Been on Ramipril 2.5mg for eight years or more and new Dr.changed them to 5mg.I have recently had a blood test to check kidney function/liver,etc and had a call from Dr.to say my potassium levels were high....is this due to the increase in strength of the Ramipril? The medication was increased to bring my blood pressure down to a more acceptable level. ## Hello, Sheik! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you're having. Yes, Ramipril has been known to cause elevated potassium levels, as a side effect. As listed by the FDA, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. It may be best to switch to a different medication, depending on how high your level is, since hyperkalemia can be dangerous. Is there anything else I can help w...

I am only 27 year old . but I am suffering from hypertension. My doctor prescribed me ramipril 5mg. Unfortunatly I read on net about ramipril and telmisartan that they causes cancer. After knowing that I am totally disturb. I am too afraid that I am not taking medication. It seems to me that I will die with fear. Persons who are taking ramipril from long time plese help me. Plese told me their experiences and save my life. Plese help me ## The chances of them causing cancer is very, very remote. However, your risk of suffering a stroke, heart attack, or congestive heart failure from not treating your high blood pressure is very, very high! Have you discussed your concerns with your doctor?

i have been on 12.5mg of ramipril each day for the past 2 and half years. We have now got a new doctor in our practice and he says that it is a too high dosage for me and now has put me on 10mg of ramipril and 5mg of amlodipine. Could the high dosage of rampipril caused anything to me, i have my blood pressure checked every three months and bloods done every six months or can it do anything to me in the future. ## That's actually not a really high dosage, it can go up to 20mgs a day for hypertension. Why did he feel it was too high of a dose, were your blood pressure readings low, while you were taking it? Next question, why is it only being checked every 3 months? Are you checking it yourself, at home? ## I have not had a bowel movement in almost 4 months. Have had every test known...

How long does ramipril stay in the body? ## How long does this stay in your body after you stop it? ## Hello, According to the FDA and NIH ramipril has a half life cycle of 3-16 hours and since it takes normally 4 to 6 half lifes for the drug to completely leave your body you are looking at between 12-96 hours, which a huge gap. Out of curiosity why do you need to know? Most people ask this question to determine when the earliest they can take a different medication is. If that's the reason for your question I would suggest waiting the maximum estimated half life of 96 hours before you take the conflicting medication just to be safe. Hope this answers your question.

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and 3 meds were added to what I already take (I also have MS). I started using a weekly med organizer to mainly keep track of steroid tapering. I forgot to put my Ramipril and didn't realize until I began sweating profusely and headache. I think it was 3 missed days. I have been on this medication for approx 4 years. I take 5mg daily. I am 54 yr old female. Are these symptoms being caused by missed doses or is it something else? ## It is hard to say, it may be due to missing the medication, but it could also be due to some other cause. Have you started taking it, again? If so, has there been any change? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, increased urination, and hypotension. Taking a st...

In case you're new to taking them, here's where you can learn more Ramipril details and this one for learning Amitriptyline details . Is there anything else I can help with?

i am 31 years having chronic nephritis, HBP of 170//120, Doctor says blood is really bad now, required biopsy ASAP, taking Ramipril, AMlodipine and sodium bicarbonate. But its been long time my BP doesnt come down. whats is possibly going with my heart and kidneys. please help me. ## Chronic Nephritis is an inflammation of the Nephrons of the Kidneys and there are several things that can cause it, such as infections and autoimmune disorders. The only way to find out what has caused it and to get proper treatment is to follow your doctors advise for testing and treatments. Kidney problems are known to contribute to or cause high blood pressure and, in such cases, it can be resistant to treatment, however, getting a resolution to help with the kidney problem can also help to lower your bl...

I read and came to know that in some patients the use of Ramipril actually increases the blood pressure due to some specific action of kidney emissions (only a minority of the patients), as it is in my case. Can somebody clarify? ## No, it actually causes the opposite effect, in a small percentage of patients that have some impairment to renal function, it can cause them to absorb too much of the medication and suffer from low blood pressure (hypotension). In these cases, they have to use a much lower dosage and their BP must be regularly monitored to make sure it isn't dropping too low. This is a common issue with most blood pressure medications. ## I am 63 years old. I take Ramistar 5mg in the morning and2.5 mg in the night. My diastolic varies between 70 and 80, However it is sys...

My pharmacist changed my generic Ramipril manufacturer and told me it was Watson. He claimed it was the "best" and had a great reputation. I found 2 other listings, never Watson. Is this just the same old line when it's really the pharmacy's bottom line? ## There's really no telling who the manufacturer is unless you're able to provide a pill imprint and description to look up. Listed below are the Ramipril manufacturers I personally came across after looking at various pills, but it may not be all of them (I have yet to see Watson as well): Cobalt Laboratories Inc Roxane Laboratories, Inc. Apotex Corp. Sandoz Pharmaceuticals Inc. Lupin Pharmaceuticals, Inc Teva Pharmaceuticals USA Dava Pharmaceuticals Inc. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Inc. InvaGen...

I have been taking amitriptyline for approx 16yrs and ramipril for 4 yrs. Is it safe to take these together? My dr has said new findings have come to light about taking these two together. I took amitriptyline for help with sleeping and have been off it for a week and now average 2hrs of sleep a night. ## The only thing I can find listed by the U.S. FDA is that taking them together may result in more lowering of your blood pressure than usual, so you may need a dosage adjustment on the Ramipril. Thus, you should be aware to watch out for any symptoms such as extreme dizziness, drowsiness, shallow breathing, or fainting. Did you doctor provide you with details about the findings he is talking about? Are you on any other medications? ## Hi dr did provide details I am now seeping better al...

Ref: Ramipril Information So yes, there's a chance that this medication is causing, or contributing to this issue.
