prescription was filled on 5/31/11. is it safe to take? ## According to Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 - 15 years after the expiration date. But the question is whether the drug you have kept in your medicine cabinet happens to be one of these drugs from the study... Poly-Tussin DM Cough Syrup Chlorpheniramine + Dextromethorphan + Phenylephrine

Dextromethorphan, often referred to as DXM, is a medication most often used as a cough suppressant in over-the-counter cold and cough medicines. It is sold in syrup, tablet, spray, and lozenge forms. It is in the morphinan class of medications with sedative, dissociative, and stimulant properties (at lower doses). Dextromethorphan does not have a significant affinity for the mu-opioid receptor activity typical of morphinan compounds and exerts its therapeutic effects through several other rec...

I have a very sore throat and chest. I am taking 20mg's of methadone. Can I take robitussin too? ## can i take tussin cough syrup while taking methdone. does it mix ## Hello Gross, First and foremost I would like to say that any time you are taking a prescription medication like methadone it is important to keep your doctors in the loop with any decision you make regarding other medications. People on the internet don't know your full situation and the information provided here is going to be generic and not tailored to your situation. I strongly recommend that you at the very least call your primary care physician and ask if this is ok. With that said the NIH says that the drugs do not have any severe interactions but does say that both of these medications have sedative proper...

I have a bottle of Diabetic Tussin, is this safe to take after a year after it's expiration date? ## Hello, Pat! How are you? No, it has most likely gone bad by now. Liquid medications degrade much faster than other formulations and, if they sour, they may actually make you sick, if you take them once expired. The FDA classifies this as a cold remedy and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and headache. Is there anything else I can help with?

Does this medicine have real codeine or synthetic? I am allergic to the real stuff but I can take meds like vicodin & darvocet. ## Tussionex contains Chlorpheniramine and Hydrocodone, the same narcotic as that in Vicodin, so no, it doesn't contain regular Codeine. Side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. You can read more on this medication here: Is there anything else I can help you with? ## How long does tussinex extended release show in urine ## Diana, Since it is a sustained release formulation the standard 72-96 hours could be an additional 36-48 hours. These are only hypothetical. Folks have cleared in as little as 60 hours while others showed positive after 8 days so it's all relative. There are far too many metabolic variables so even...

Tussinex and Tussincaps are already on the market and while it does work to calm cough its become notorious for the high it gives since the antihistamine in it potetiates the hydrocodone! it should be taken off the market since any opiod drug can suppress coughing and sneezing and they arent as mind altering as this combo! ## Based on my research, both of these drugs do interact with one another. Quoted below are the precautions that more people should be aware of: "Using Chlorpheniramine together with Hydrocodone may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience some impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Avoid driving or operat...

I have a tropical flavored hydrocodone-apap liquid but it doesn't say the strength?!! How much wud I need to take to equal 1 yellow 10/325 norco? It says take 1 teaspoon every 4-6 hrs for cough. Or am I way off and the whole bottle won't equal 1? Lol ## The bottle should have the amount of medication in 5 cc's on the bottle. Are there any numbers on the bottle after the name of the medication ? ## If it's hydrocodone/acetaminophen sol, it's 7.5/325 per 15 ml meaning 7.5 mgs hydrocodone, 325 Tylenol if it's the new sol, older formula has 500mg acetaminophen(Tylenol) so you would need 20ml to get 10mg. Be careful of Tylenol tho. New recommended dose is 3000mg per day. Now if its cough syrup, it's tussinex , is it super thick? That's 10mg hydrocodone per 5 m...
