Desvenlafaxine, sold under the brand name Pristiq among others, is a medication used to treat depression.[2] It is recommended that the need for further treatment be occasionally reassessed.[2] It may be less effective than its parent compound venlafaxine,[3] although some studies have found comparable efficacy.[4] It is an antidepressant of the serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) class and is taken by mouth.&#...

Are Pristiq and Wellbutrin in the same category? ## No I have been on 100 mg of Pristiq for 2 years. Pristiq is for Seritonin. Wellbutrin is for Dopamine. Some of us who are bipolar, our bodies do not make enough of either. Pristiq is for my Seritonin which helps with sleep. Will start Wellbutrin XR 150mg tablets on September 2nd. Dopamine makes a person happy. you laugh more, enjoy life more and all that. All this was explained to me by my neurologist and psychiatrist. ## They both treat similar conditions, as Charlie has stated, but they are not the same. However, this does not mean they are always safe for any certain person to take together, that is entirely up to your medical history and your doctor. The FDA lists typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, drowsi...

just want to know if pritiq can cause numbness in the feet and toes ## No, those aren't normal side effects of this medication. If that's what you're experiencing, then you need to talk to your doctor as soon as possible to see what's causing it. That could be the sign of a dangerous reaction, or due to some other medical condition that requires treatment. Learn more Pristiq details here. How often does it occur? ## Pristiq can most definitely cause tingling in the legs and toes. I know because I have it now and since starting this poison. ## Yes, with the generic, I have tingling on the bottom of my feet and left hand. Off and on. I also gained weight, have a numb feeling with thinking, shortness of breath. I was used to the original Pristiq. They want over $400.00 a mo...

I've been on 50 mg for a while and haven't been doing as good as I once was- my dr wants me to go to 100 mg but now that they finally make a 25 mg pill. Do you think 75 mg would be good? I'd prefer to be on as small of a dose as I can- lemme know guys or girls if anyone bumped to 75mg with success or 100 mg too when 50 mg wasn't working as good. Thanks and all comments would help out a lot! ## Hello, Chris! How are you? If your doctor agrees, there is no reason to go to the 100mgs, trying 75mgs is perfectly fine and will leave you somewhere to go, if you become tolerant to that dosage. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

Just started last night 50 mg. Took around 8:30 pm. I woke around 1:50am had to use bathroom. Then tossed, turned all night, brain won't shut off. I think I finally feel asleep around 8:30am woke up 9:40 am... could not get out of bed. Made myself get up. Feel weird, tired but awake. I don't like this feeling. I am laying in bed and was trying to nap since 2pm, no freaking luck! I just want to sleep!!! ## I am very sorry about the problem that you're having. However, this does occur frequently, when starting such a medication. It tends to alter how soon you enter the REM sleep phase and how much time you spent in it, which sometimes results in sleep that isn't restful and/or insomnia. However, it usually improves after about 3 to 4 weeks, once your body gets used to the ...

I've been on Pristiq for seven years. It worked for about a year or so but the last 6 years have been horrible. It's been like living in a bubble devoid of happy or strong emotions to anything. I'm now trying to come off Pristiq to switch to a new drug. It's my third day off Pristiq and I'm a horrible mess. I weened for two weeks all the while taking new drug without problem. Now that I do not have Pristiq in my system the side effects are too much to bear. I have severe headache, brain zaps, the swooshing when I move my eyes, anxious, horrible dreams, sweating, cold/hot, nausea, crying, and last but not least irritable. I don't know how I'm going to make it through this. Please, please if you know what I know...never get on this drug!

I have started taking pristiq about 6 weeks ago and I have noticed in the last week or so that I have been extremely fatigued. Could this be due to the pristiq? ## Pristiq contains the active ingredient Desvenlafaxine, it is an SNRI class antidepressant and yes, it can cause drowsiness and fatigue as a side effect. Generally, side effects should hit their peak around 4 to 6 weeks of use, the time it usually takes for a medication to reach its full effectiveness in the body. After that, they should start to taper off in severity, as your body gets used to the medication. However, if it is a severe problem, then you should contact your doctor, as this may not be the right medication for you. I switched to Pristiq Aug 2012 after being on Prozac which seemed to stopped helping me with depression. Two months later I developed a severe large intestine bleed accompanied with severe pain. After a CT which found inflammation I was put on Flagyl and Cipro. I developed diarrhea and was gettting worse instead of better after 4 days and was hospitalized. A cdiff culture came back positive which was probably non active until I was put on the antibiotics. (was on effexor not Pristiq in hospital) I was released and sent home (back on Pristiq). Three days later the bleeding started again and I was put back in the hospital. Cdiff negative this time. A colonoscopy showed non specific inflammation (no polyps etc.). (on effexor) Relased again and on flagyl for 10 more days. When the flagyl ra...

3rd week on pristiq and I'm still getting anxious and puking because of my anxiety. Should I give the 50 mg more time or ask for another solution? ## Hello, Lola84! How are you? It can take 4 to 5 weeks, before this medication reaches its full level of effectiveness in your body, it can also cause some increased anxiety, for awhile, while you're body is getting used to it. Thus, it may be best to give it a couple more weeks to see if things settle down and it helps you, unless your doctor feels otherwise. The FDA lists its other typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

Is it ok to take cialis once a day 5 mg while taking pristiq 50 mg ?? ## Hello, Jack! How are you? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed, but it's always best to double check such information to be sure. However, it should be fine, if your doctor approves of your taking both. Been on pristiq 6-7 weeks on mg. I notice I've been getting better but I'm a lot more angry and agitated. I recently quit lexapro but my dr said that is just me getting angry, I'm concerned if it's the drug or me? Anyone know if pristiq can make you angry ## Hello, Chris 51! How are you? That can be a normal side effect for the first few weeks, when you take such a medication, especially coupled with the withdrawal effects of stopping the Lexapro. It usually takes about 3 to 4 weeks for things to improve. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes. I've been pretty anxious my whole life. Used Paxil at 15 after a bad experience with drug my anxiety was insane. I then stopped using Paxil after a month and managed to.live with my anxiety. I then had to use cipralex twice because my anxiety went crazy. But always stopped after 3 months. But for 3 years I have been using temazepam 30mg everyday. This pill helped me sleep at night however I didn't know I would end up being so addictive. I feel so happy at night when I take it. Now my anxiety is back and I went to see the doctor because I couldn't stand it... I go shopping and have major anxiety panic attack and feel like I will faint. I am on day 4 without Pristiq in my system. I was on 100mg for 5 years then dropped to 50mg for a few months. I tried taking a pill every other day but on my off day I was having awful withdrawal symptoms so decided to just stop taking it and get this over with. The withdrawal symptoms are driving me crazy, brain zaps, hot/cold flashes, headaches, vertigo, anxiety. My doctor said I can wait it out until Thursday and see if it gets better otherwise it's to a different drug that can be weaned off more easily. Does anyone have any success stories for weaning off pristiq and surviving the symptoms? It would be nice to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel! ## I didn't do it with Pristiq, it was a different medication, but I can assure you that there is light at the end of t...

Is it safe to take 100mg of Pristiq and 10mg of Buspar and 250mg of Seroquel together? I didn't know how much serotonin all those combined would be or if those 3 meds are ok to take together. Thanks! ## Hello, Beka! How are you? Have they all been prescribed for you? Two that can raise your serotonin levels are the Pristiq and the Buspar. It isn't that they can't be taken together, but that your doctor should carefully adjust the dosage and they should be monitoring your regularly in case any problems develop. According to the FDA the symptoms for Serotonin syndrome may possibly include increased heart rate, shivering, sweating, dilated pupils and twitching. They will also be of very rapid onset.

can pristiq and zoloft be taken together? ## Since they both have effects on Serotonin levels in the brain, using them together does increase the risk of someone developing Serotonin Syndrome, which can be very dangerous. Learn more Pristiq details here. Learn more Zoloft details here. So, if they are taken together, then the dosage must be taken under careful consideration by their doctor and they should be monitored closely to watch for any danger signs. Hi all, I was on 150 of pristiq and have been tapering off for two months. Last week I went from 50 to 25 for about 4 days. Then I did 25 every other day. Then I just wanted to be done. I am so nauseous and cloudy. I feel like I can't think straight or formulate a sentenced. My balance is off and I've had migraines on and off. I can't believe I didn't know how bad these symptoms were. I am so miserable, but it is getting better each day. I am so tired. I wish I never went on this. My dr. Wanted to put me on Prozac while I am withdrawing from pristiq. I am so scared to go back on anything after this experience. Today I cried on and off all day. I e never been that bad. I feel like I am gong crazy! Please..someone tell me I will be ok. ## Hi, Jo! Sorry about the way you...

Wanted to share my experience with coming of this drug with others because I have looked towards others experiences the past few days which have helped me a ton! I started taking Lexpro around the age of 17 never had any real issues besides being tired a lot. I stayed on Lexpro for over 3 years. After complaining about being tired my doctor wanted me to try Pristiq saying it might give me more energy. The switch over between Lexpro and Pristiq was easy I don't recall any struggles. Now I have been taking Pristiq for about 3 years. I have always taken 50mg once a day. If I followed that dosage I was totally fine. But if for whatever reason I missed a day I was shortly reminded by the terrible dizziness an nausea. About a year ago I told the same doctor that put me the medication I wa...
