Does prazosin cause acne? I've always had very clear skin and since I started taking prazosin I've been breaking out (zits) all over my face, even on my neck. And they're not just little pimples; they are the huge. They are big zits that never come to a head, they take weeks to go away, sometimes leave scars, and they hurt! ## Yes, this works on hormones in the body, so acne can be a result. I had a very similar problem, when I was taking a similar drug. It never stopped for me, until I switched medications, so I'd suggest looking into that for yourself. Because I tried every other metho I could find and nothing helped. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## I have acne now after starting Prasozin. My skin is more oily too. ## The same thing is happening to me!

What can i take for nasal congestion ? I get nasal congestion when i take prazosin hcl. ## Hello, John! How are you? Unfortunately, I've found that most stuff on provides minimal help, but if your doctor approves of your trying it, you may benefit from an antihistamine, such as Benadryl, or Flonase nasal spray, though they can sometimes elevate blood pressure, so it's best to only take them, if your doctor approves. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hello: Dealing with PTSD. Prazosin helps but is short acting. I use at night when anxiety jerks me awake, often 3 or 4 times. I always check BP first and when elevated by stress I take 2-4 mg. It really helps but my P-doc wont give RX for enough to see me through a month. Is there any reasonably reliable over the counter route for Prazosin (minipress)? I could really use the help. Thanks ## Hello Don. Spotted your post in here..I get the drug for something else but I was wondering did anyone try Melatonin on you? It's a natural sleep hormone.. in Europe it doesn't require a prescription. ## Hi Don, Regarding PTSD, I stumbled upon some interesting information I wanted to share, suggesting that certain psychedelics such as psilocybin (the active component found in psychedelic mush...

I ran out of Clonidine. can I take Prazosin instead until I refill my script?? And if so how different is the dosages between the two? Is 2 mg of Clonidine the same as 2 mg of Prazosin??? ## Hello, Sammy! How are you? They are not the same type of medication, at all, so there's really no way to compare them. It would be best to refill your Clonidine and continue it, as instructed by your doctor. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, drowsiness and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I believe they are nearly identical. Both are actually alpha blockers. Same dosage. How would one think they are not at all alike? Google it yet? Do! Tell me if I'm wrong. The thing is, I just got home from being prescribed Clon...

What is the proper way to stop taking Prazosin? Can you just stop cold turkey? What are the side effects of quitting this drug? ## Why were you taking it? If it was to treat high blood pressure, or a cardiac condition, then it might not be safe for you to stop taking it, since the FDA warns that stopping it could cause dangerously elevated levels to your blood pressure, and heart rate. Generally, a very slow taper is best. Your prescriber should be able to help you discover a timeline that works best for you. Are you on any other medications? Why do you want to stop taking it?

What is the generic form of prazosin, or prazosin alternatives/substitutes (when prescribed for PTSD or anxiety)? ## Prazosin is also minnipress, I've been on it for years for PTSD and it works wonderful ## @Debbie, Minipress is the brand/trade name and Prazosin is the generic name. As far as alternatives go, Prazosin is an "alpha blocker" - [which according to NIH is indicated for treating hypertension], so looking into other drugs of the same classification may be your best bet. The way it lowers blood pressure is by relaxing blood vessels. So I'd imagine that this mechanism is what would have a direct effect on anxiety or PTSD. I don't believe all blood pressure meds work in the same manner (e.g. beta blockers / diuretics), but it goes without sayin' that lowe...

I take 1mg of Prazosin for an enlarged prostate. Although it has stopped me waking up 2 or 3 times to do a pee in the night, I still wake up usually between 5am-6am dying for the toilet. I take it every night at 9pm. Should I take it earlier around 6pm or up my dosage? Thank you. ## What has your doctor advised? As you age, it is normal to start having to wake up to urinate, when it becomes a problem is when its several times a night, and disrupts your entire sleep pattern, but once isn't generally considered a problem. What has your doctor advised? You should speak with them regarding your specific needs, before making a change to your medication regimen. Prazosin may cause side effects, which the FDA lists as possibly including nausea, tiredness, headache, and urinary retention. R...

I don't have high blood pressure, just severe anxiety. Can Prazosin 2 mg be taken during the daytime or just at night? Please let me know! ## It can be taken any time of day, but the FDA warns that it can cause nausea, dizziness, and drowsiness, so some people do prefer to take it at night, and it is always best to follow your doctor's instructions. Are you on any other medications?
