What is the difference between the 2 OTC meds of Pepto Bsmol and Gaviscon ## Hello, Patricia! How are you? Pepto-Bismol contains Pink Bismuth, also known as Bismuth Salicylate. According to the FDA, it is listed as being used to treat heartburn, upset stomach, indigestion and diarrhea. However, Gaviscon as manufactured by Reckitt Benckiser contains sodium alginate, sodium or potassium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate, it is an antacid that's listed by the FDA as being used to treat or prevent heartburn and GERD. Typical side effects to both may include dizziness and flatulence. But, Pepto-Bismol treats more issues, though not everyone is able to take it. Is there anything else I can help with?

Why is it that taking pepto bismo causes me to have frequent urination just about every hour at night time? I also take Lipitor, Avapro, Metformin, Januvia and Actos. ## Lipitor interacts with antacids. My father has the same problem, plus nausea and stomach problems. Going to doctor to try and get him off it. Liptor from what I've been studying is not a very good, or useful, drug for most people. From what I've read, it only helps 1-3% of people. Very bad side effects too!!!! ## I started taking metformin 500 about 1 mth ago and I'm stating to pee a lot more often and it burns most of the time .. I'm also taking simvastatin20 andlevothyroxine88 but ive been taking the 2 for 2 yrs and never bothered me.. it hurts bad sometimes when I urinate ... should I stop cut them in...

I have had an stomach ache for tree days already and my popo comes dark, I wanna know if i'm on risk of something. I alredy took tilenol and pepto bismol and the pain is still there. What is this!!? ## Have you consulted a doctor? No one is going to be able to provide with a diagnosis from the limited information in any online post and this is an information only website, not doctors. There are many things that could cause these symptoms, from an illness, to an infection, or something you ate.

the pill is pink (pepto bismol pink) , small, and oval. One side has 44 above 326 in black lettering and the other side is blank. I am just curious as to what it is. ## it is a female laxative, like ducolax ## That is correct, this contains 5mgs of Bisacodyl, a generic or store brand for Correctol, used to treat occasional irregulararity/constipation. oblong pink like pepto bismol color tablet; 500mg on one side and scored on the other ## I can't find a listing for this in the U.S. prescription drug databases. It could be any one of a large number of over the counter items or even a foreign medication. Was it found in the U.S. or elsewhere? Do you know anything else about it?

I've googled and searched message boards and haven't found anything that looks like this pill. It's small, round, kind of a Pepto bismol pink, and has only a triangle imprint. There is no scoring, letters, or numbers. It is a hard consistency. Does not break easily. Does anyone have any ideas what this may be? I have a picture but can't see where I can post it along with my message ## I have these as well and really can't seem to figure out what it is!!! Makes no sense. Found it in my sisters room. She's had a history of oxycodone abuse but this can't be searched I've looked everywhere. Have you had any luck with it yet? ## It turned out to be oxy 20mg. Most likely manufactured outside the US ## Hi ICAG2017, Thanks for keeping us updated on the pill's...

I found this on the floor in the bedroom and have no idea where it came from, it's a very large pill, pepto bismol pink with two triangles one is upside down on top of the other at left end and then the number 4980 stamped in to it. Can you help me out, is my husband sick and not telling me? ## Hello, Carolyn! How are you? This tablet is actually no longer available in the U.S. it was a generic for a mild narcotic analgesic called Darvocet, it contains Propoxyphene and Acetaminophen. Learn more Darvocet details here. It was pulled from the market in both the U.S. and Canada, as well as several other countries, because it was found to cause cardiotoxicity, plus there was an inordinate number of overdoses. Is there anything else I can help with?

What is a pink oblong pill with 172 or G172 imprinted on one side? ## It's an over the counter Pepto bismal pill. ## Just to confirm, I've also identified pill imprint G172 as Pepto Bismol; which contains (262 mg) of Bismuth subsalicylate. "Pepto-Bismol is an over-the-counter drug currently produced by the Procter and Gamble company in the United States of America, Canada and in United Kingdom, to treat minor digestive system upset. Its active ingredient is bismuth subsalicylate. The primary symptoms aided by Pepto-Bismol are nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, diarrhea, and other temporary discomforts of the stomach and GI tract." I hope this helps!

I had a very bad skin rash that caused redness all over my body. I used a pink creamy lotion but I can not remember what it was. Any ideas? ## If it dries kind of chalky and looks like Pepto Bismol before applying and then you apply and it drives chalky for itching and redness it's called calamine lotion

They are really the only person who will be able to properly diagnose your problem. Anything taken from just the limited information provided in a post on the Internet is pure guess work. Along with what Beth suggested, there are many other possible reasons for your problem, including a bleeding ulcer, gastritis, a virus and quite a few other choices. ## Only my multivatimines and my two pils of salmon oil, and then I mostly it chicken fingers w/ hmustard, ham a chese and so on

What does it do? ## hi going to sharm in egypt for 2 weeks , went last year and had the dodgy stomach. Can you take anything before you get it as a preventative? ## We spent 3-1/2 weeks in Egypt in September. After the first few days we started to have queasy stomachs and my husband had diarrhea for 3 days. Immodium didn't help him, although Pepto Bismol did calm my stomach a bit. A pharmacist in Aswan recommended Drotazide and it worked wonders. We took it 3 times a day for a couple of days to clear things up. Then once a day as a preventative measure and our stomachs were fine for the rest of the trip. Drotazide is over the counter in Egypt. Buy it and take a tablet once a day as soon as you can. Taking it, we were able to eat fresh fruit and use ice cubes with no bad consequences...

What drugs are in the salicylates drug class? ## Hi Gail, From what I've researched, there's actually quite a few medications within this drug class. Here's a list containing some of the US-based Salicylate medications I could find online: Azulfidine, Amigesic, Bayer, Colazal, Canasa, Dolobid, Dipentum, Doans, Ecotrin, Giazo, Kaopectate, Pepto Bismol, Pentasa, Salflex, Trilisate, and Tricosal. You may notice that it's mostly comprised of arthritis/anti-inflammatory related medications. I hope this info helps answer your question! Is there anything else I can do for you?

I've been prescribed sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 for a suspected bacterial infection along with ibuprofen 800 for pain. I take them with meals twice a day, except for the ibuprofen. I only take that when the pain is unbearable. I'm experiencing side effects such as cramping, upset stomach and diarrhea. ..as expected. Should I take pepto bismol to help with the belly issues? Also, my family and I have noticed that I have become very grumpy since I started the meds. Is this a cause of the meds or simply from dealing with the pain? Side note- the issue for treatment is testicular pain, which makes me sick to my stomach by itself. ## Hi, Bo! Very sorry that you're so miserable, that's terrible! Gdc With The G Wrapping around the dc And It Says 105 to the right of the GDC. ## I can't find a listing for this exact marking, I am sure it's because this company makes over the counter products and they are therefore not required to log the imprints with the FDA. They make several different items that are sold as generics or store brands for products such as Tum and Pepto Bismol tablets. Does anyone else recognize this? ## I also cannot find any info on this specific pill. Any info about this white oblong pill with imprint GDC 105 is needed. ## i have the same pill. could it be a dairy relief pill like generic lactaid? ## Yes the pill is a lactase enzyme pill...generic version, mine were from CVS.
