It is used in the treatment of dental abscess, strep throat, chlamydia infection, skin infection, pharyngitis, etc.. and belongs to the drug class macrolides. It is an oval white tablet with reddish pink specs. It has an "a" (like the one you described) on the front next to the letters PCE.
