I have taken Benicar for years. Dr. tried a different BP medicine and I started a dry cough for weeks......back to Benicar, and cough went away. In December, Dr. switched me to olmesartan, which, as I understand it is generic for Benecar. I've been coughing ever since.........is that even possible? Are the two medicines identical, or is it possible that for me, Olmesartan causes cough but Benicar does not? ## I also recently switched from Benicar to the generic form. Can't stop with the dry cough. After hearing of your experience, I'm calling my cardiologist. This is intolerable! ## It is always possible for your body to suddenly start reacting differently to a medication, and for you to start experiencing new side effects. Our bodies do change with time, so it does happen. ...

I am taking olmesartan + metoprolol 50 in the morning and amlodipine + hydrochlorthiazide 5/12.5 in the evening. Despite that, whenever I eat a high sodium diet my bp becomes very high (170/90). I was advised to take met xl t (telmisarta) instead as olmesartan causes me side effects. Please advise. ## Well, it would seem that you are sodium sensitive and are always going to have to watch your sodium intake, according to NIH studies. As to the medications, Met Xl contains a time released formulation of Metoprolol, not Telmisartan. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Who told you it contained Telmisartan? ## Since changing to generic Benicar (olmesartan), my blood pressure has skyrocketed. Ple...

Both of my kidneys are polycystic. My mother had it and two brothers have it. My BP was not rising, as far as I know, unless very unusual circumstances. One doctor near my town prescribed me Olmin 20 LN. Which contains Olmesartan Medoxomil 20 mg and Cilnidipine 10 mg. Nephrologist doctor also said no problem. But when I read side effects of Olmesartan, it includes rising Serum Creatinine which I recently experienced, may be due to an unsuitable diet for my kidneys or may be for starting Olmin 20 LN. Should I stop it? I am taking homeopathic medicine for kidneys and a restricted diet. So I think of stopping Olmin 20 LN? Please guide. ## It would best to consult your doctor and not stop the medication, without their approval and supervision. These types of medications are often prescribed...

My wife has been prescribed Olmesartan, but the Doctor gave telmestran. Is there any major change in the medicine as the generic is the same perhaps. ## They are in the same medication class, but they are two different medications, Telma contains Telmisartan, rather than Olemsartan. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. She should be able to smoothly switch from one to the other. Did the doctor mention any reason for the change?

I noticed when I started taking the Olmesartan Medoxomil about 9 months ago it has a pretty bad smell. I took it back to the pharmacy and told them to smell the bottle and they agreed but said they all smell like that. I take this plus the generic Norvasc 10mg, the Olmesartan is 40/25 and clonidine 0.2mg. I have noticed recently swelling in my feet and ankles, also a rash on the lower part of my legs. ## I was originally prescribed Benicar 40/20 but when they came out with a generic (olmesartan) i was required to switch over to that. I have taken these two medications for years and have had no side effects at all. I know everyone can have different effects I have never had any issues (yet). ## Hello, Sue! How are you doing? Has there been any change? You should contact your doctor immed...

hypertension ## Olmesartan Info Click Here ## using omesar for high bloodpressure and lexpro for depression,l have put on about 42 lbs in two years . I am aged 35 please could give me some helpful information on this tablets. ## Well, I am not a doctor, nor a medical professional, so I cannot provide you with a definitive answer, it would be remiss of anyone to try to do so only reading one post online. However, the culprit is more than likely the Lexapro, weight gain is a side effect of many antidepressants. You could talk to your doctor about it, and if they agree that it could be causing the problem, you could try switching to something else that does not cause such severe weight gain, otherwise your only other choice is to get more exercise and watch your diet and caloric/fat intake...

I am taking olmesartan 20mgs and 120 mgs diltiazem per day. Have had chronic, incapacitating leg and hip pain, almost like sciatica, unable to walk, plus a rash on my legs and arms. Stopped dilt for 10 days and pain almost gone. Coincidence or can ths terrible pain etc be related to dilt? Can walk now too. ## Yes, it could be due to the Diltiazem, it has happened to others that have taken it and I experienced such problems myself with several blood pressure medications. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and increased urination. You may want to speak to your doctor about trying a different medication.
