My doctor put me on this drug as a replacement for oxycodone and it does nothing for my chronic rsd are there other pain meds that will give me the relief like oxycodone did. ## Because everyone reacts differently to prescription drugs (especially narcotic pain meds), there's really no way to tell ahead of time how any medication will effect you. Some patients may get great pain relief from Nucynta, while others may have to opt for oxycodone, hydrocodone (vicodin), opana, or dilaudid, for the same relief. Have you already asked your doctor about switching medications to something that may be more effective? ## Yes,I will see my regular pain management dr. In a week and ask to go on something else, they told me oxycodone was taken off the market, the pharmiscy said that its still ava...

Hi there, I am currently taking oxys for my chronic pain, which work very well for me, but my dr has just given me a script for nucynta which is a fairly new drug. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these and if they can give me any info regarding the effects, if any, side effects etc compared to oxys? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx in advance for ur time ## I haven't used it, but I can provide you with some basic information on it. Nucynta contains the active ingredient Tapentadol, which is a centrally acting analgesic. It is related to opiates, so the side effects it can cause are very similar and may include: nausea, dizziness, constipation and dry mouth. Learn more: Is there any one that has used this and can provide more information? ## I've been u...

Has anyone had a problem with nucynta making them sick. I've tried 3 different times now to start taking this medication and each time within 3 to 5 days I end up with upset stomach verging on vomiting, diarrhea, not able to think straight. I don't know if I've been truly sick over 3 times in a month or if this is a reaction to the medication. And it's not helping my pain. Any info would be great. Thanks ## Those can be side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience anxiety, constipation and heart burn. Most side effects, however, are transient and tend to go away with time, once your body gets used to the medication. But, if it isn't helping your pain, you may want to inform your doctor and see if you can try something else. Is ther...

I am a doctor who treats and "enjoys" a chronic pain problem. My PCP suggested nucynta. We tried it for several months, and I tried it on some of my patients. From my experience in both realms I feel confident in stating that nucynta ER is complete crap! It neither helped me, nor anyone I prescribed it for. I am quite sure that tha pharmaceutical company, however, is pleased with the profits. ## Hello, Tbone! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you and your patients had with the Nucynta. It seems to have worked well for some, but to be quite honest, I've read many more complaints about it. Did you report the issues to the FDA? ## Yes, Nuycenta ER is a useless pain medication. I have been using a pain management clinic for over 10 years. I've been on fentany...

I take a combination of medications for the pain in my legs. I take for 100 mg Nucynta a day plus a combination of others. How does this work for you guys anybody dry it? ## Hi Tracie, I haven't tried Nucynta (Tapentadol) specifically, but looking at its indications, this medication appears to be marketed for use in treating moderate to severe (acute) pain. Running a search for Nucynta here on MedsChat (in the search bar above) you can find a number of patient reviews pertaining to its efficacy. Based on what I've seen posted, it looks like it's effective for many individuals, but others have also raised concerns about its long term use and safety. At the end of the day though, I think the reality is that each individual reacts/responds differently and the only honest way to...

My doctor put me on nucynta er 150 mg x2 daily for chronic pain and I'm not getting any pain relief. Does it take time to work? I've been on it for 3 weeks. ## Hello, Kurtfen! How are you? No, it is an opiate and should have some effect within about 15 to 20 minutes of taking it. However, it could be that it's just not the right medication to help you. The FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you informed your doctor of the issue? You may need to try a different medication.

How are you? What you have to understand is that all the medications you've mentioned are in the same category, Tramadol is just a very mild opioid in comparison to the others. Nucynta contains the a...

I was just prescribed nucynta after being on percocet for over 3 years. Im very nervous about taking the first dose after reading the side effects. I work in the public eye and do ALOT of face to face contact and am nervous about not being able to think straight or put out a coherent thought. Should i be concerned about this side effect as much as i am. ## Hello, Tinkerbell! How are you? If you are already opiate tolerant, you likely won't have as much of a problem with it as someone that hasn't taken them before. However, the only way to find out how it will affect you is by trying it. Is there a chance that you could start it on a day off, when you won't have to worry about it, so much? The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potenti...

Has Nucynta been discontinued? ## I'm sorry, what thing are you looking for? I am not finding any information, at this time, that Nucynta, which contains the active ingredient Tapentadol, that is used to treat pain, has been discontinued. However, if it was a very recent action, it may not be added to the FDA databases, yet. Do you have a source for this information? ## Walgreens has stated Nucynta has been discontinued as of 9/14/2017. Could not fill my prescription. ## my walgreens told me it is discontinued also. sept 22 ## My mother has been taking nucynta for years. It's the only drug she doesn't have a reaction to. My Dr. gave me Nucynta 50 mg yesterday. If I run out of my Hyromorphone Hcl 18mg, can I take the new drug Nucynta 50mg for withdrawals from Hyromorphone Hcl? If anyone has had hands on experience with this, or know's of someone that has? Any help would be well appreciated! I ended up taking the NUCYNTA this morning due to acute pain brought on by a car accident 4 weeks ago. ## I have been taking this medication for a month now. Dose is 4x a day and I am very pleased , the pain relief as been relieved immensely , Vicodin was not doing much other than making me a couch potato . Down side is you can't miss a dosage or pain returns quickly, lower back and legs in my case. Overall for me it is a 10 enabling me a much more active lifestyle.

I’ve been using Nucynta ER for several years and doing well with it. My doctor’s office informed me it might become unavailable because of the hurricanes in Puerto Rico, which is where it is manufactured. When I went to refill at the end of January, sure enough, Not Available. How long before it will be available again, and how can I get on a list to be notified of availability? ## In order to find out about current product availability, my thoughts are to get in touch with the manufacturer directly and/or the local pharmacy that generally fills your prescriptions. Do you happen to know who the manufacturer of your previously filled Rx of Nucynta ER is? Most manufacturers have a website with their contact information easily accessible, so this is what I would recommend first...

I am using Fentanyl 25mg patch for chronic back pain. Is it ok to use nucynta ER 50mg for breakthrough pain? ## Has your doctor prescribed them both? It is unusual to prescribe 2 time released medications, together. That's not usually the way breakthrough pain is handled, usually there is one time released medication and one instant release, or regular release medication, because they help with pain much faster than a time released medication.

My mother was advised to try Nucynta for pain relief. The doasge she is trying is 100mg. She can take a totoal of 600 mg per 24 hr period. If she does not take at least 1 while sleeping will it take longer in the AM to get relief? ## Nucynta contains the active ingredient Tapentadol and is used to relieve moderate to severe pain. As to pain relief, many of these medications are taken on an as needed basis, while they can work better if taken regularly, it is not really necessary to wake her in the middle of the night to take a dose, it will still help to alleviate her pain if she just takes it when she arises in the morning. The difference in the length of time it takes to help relieve her pain will not be really significant. The only time you really have to worry about such a precise d...

Is thre an over the counter pill, orange with white inside, that looks like nucynta? I think my sis stole my moms and put a diffeent pill in the bottle. ## Hello, Anncam! How are you? Look at the markings on the tablets and post back with that information. That is what would enable them to be checked to see what they contain or if someone switched them out. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Can you please post back with this information? Thanks!

How are you? There is a program available that may help you, if you qualify, it's from the Patient Advocate Foundation and you can call them for more information, 866-512-3861. The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. What's Nucynta ER comparable to as far as a pain reliever goes? ## According to the study linked below from NIH.gov, "Tapentadol IR (the active ingredient in Nucynta) has comparable analgesic efficacy and overall safety to that of Oxycodone IR for the relief of moderate to severe, acute lower back pain as well as leg pain" Ref: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23703422 Another clinical study also compared 50mg and 75 mg dosages of Tapentadol IR to Oxycodone HCl IR 10 mg and reported similar efficacy, at: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19302899 I understand that this is referring to immediate release and not extended release, but perhaps this information will at least give you an idea of its potency/capabilities and what level of relief you might come to expect. Hope this helps! ## I underst...

Has anyone had the problem with nucynta not working anymore? ## How long have you been taking it?
