Ethinylestradiol (EE) is an estrogen medication which is used widely in birth control pills in combination with progestins.[7][8] In the past, EE was widely used for various indications such as the treatment of menopausal symptoms, gynecological disorders, and certain hormone-sensitive cancers. It is usually taken by mouth but is also used as a patch and vaginal ring.[7][12] The general side effects of EE include breast tendernes...

So five months ago I started taking mono Linyah bc after I had my son. The first two months were completely normal and I have my period on the week of the sugar pills. On the 3rd month I had my period on the sugar pills and then 2 weeks later I had my period again (yes a regular period needing to change tampons regularly for three days..) I started spotting a really dark brown/blackish color until my next period. Which was two weeks later when it was actually supposed to come. After that no spotting for two days. Then it was the same spotting again for a week. I haven't spotted since then. But my period is always really heavy I always bleed through a super plus tampon every two hours.. What could cause this? ## The symptoms you've described are most commonly caused by a hormonal...

I've been taking Sprintec regularly for about a year and a half. I just got my prescription refilled at a different pharmacy and they gave me Mono-Linyah. I want to know what the differences are, if any, between the two. I've been told before that switching birth controls can cause you to bleed and have adverse effects on your hormone levels. I do not want to take the new prescription if the effects will be that drastic, I would rather return this and have my prescription refilled at my regular pharmacy if this is the case. Input is much appreciated! ## In order to provide you with a generic, the pharmacy can only give you one that is equivalent to that which you were originally prescribed, so they're the same, the new one is just a generic manufactured by a different compan...

In February, my pharmacy told me that the birth control I was on (sprintec) was back ordered. They offered mono-linyah (a generic equivalent) for me to use. Turns out, I liked mono-linyah way more than I liked sprintec. Now, however, my pharmacy is back to carrying sprintec. Does anyone know of any pharmacies that have mono linyah as a generic? ## They should be able to order the other one back in for you, if you ask them. However, if it costs more than the Sprintec, then your insurance would most likely only cover the lower amount and you'd have to pay the difference out of pocket. Additionally, without knowing your location, it's hard for anyone to make any suggestions. This website is open to people all over the world, so if you're located in Philadelphia and I suggest a ...

I was just put on mono Linyah. My dr told me to take the first pill the Sunday after I started my period. I started my period on a Friday, took the first pill on Sunday. I’m not supposed to have my next period for 20 days, but I start the white pills in 14 days. I thought you were supposed to start your period on the day of the first white pill? ## It is normal for your menstrual cycle to change, when you are taking a hormonal contraceptive, according to FDA notes. You may also experience other side effects that could include nausea, dizziness, headache, and spotting. If any symptoms become too problematic, or if you bleed to heavily, you should inform your doctor, as it may not be the right one for you to take, so you might have to try a different one. How are you doing, now?

So tonight I went to take my pill and noticed that Friday's pill was still there. I went ahead and took Friday's and Saturdays. (I'm in my second week) The thing is, I'm next to positive that I took it Friday. This would have to mean I missed it earlier in the week (I'm thinking Wednesday or Thursday). So, my question is, is there anything else I need to do? ## Hello, Nicole! How are you? Every missed pill creates the risk of pregnancy, so it would be best to use a backup form of protection, if you're engaging in intercourse, until you've taken another 7 days worth of active tablets in a row, unless your doctor advises otherwise. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, PMS-...

Has anyone been late or missed a period taking mono linyah? This is my second month on it.. I had the nexplanon since February and had it removed last month.. I have missed two days but doubled up on my doses.. ## Hello, Molly! How are you? It can be normal to skip periods, while taking oral contraceptives, according to the FDA. Some women stop having them, entirely. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. However, if you missed pills and engaged in intercourse, there is a slight risk of pregnancy. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I had a surgical abortion almost 4 weeks along and I did not start my birth control (mono linyah) until 3 weeks after the surgery. I did not have intercourse until I began taking my pills and us...

I have been taking this birth control for three months and have been pretty good about taking my pill every day at the same time (9:30pm) or the following morning if I forgot which has been only a few times. The first two months I got my period on the first white pill day but this month I'm on my third day of white pills with still no period. There were two days I missed pills this month. Should I take a pregnancy test or is this normal? Also, I do smoke. Should I even be taking this? ## Hello, Allie! How are you? It can be normal to have irregular bleeding for a few months, while your body is adjusting to the hormones in this oral contraceptive, however, as long as you've not completely missed taking any pills, it isn't likely that you're pregnant. If you did completely...

I just started taking mono linyah, my first BC ever, and am on the inactive pills on my second pack. I have always had very clear skin, but when I started taking the pill I began to breakout and get pimples a lot more than usual. I'm hoping it's just my body getting used to the hormones, but I just want to be sure this won't be a persistent problem as I'm getting married in a couple of months... I've heard of BC pills causing some "initial breakouts," and that they usually clear up around month three. Help! ## Yes, that is correct, usually most side effects go away, once your body gets to the medication, which the FDA lists as being approximately 3 months. During this time you may also experience nausea, headaches, and irregular bleeding. If there is no impro...

Hello my birth control just got switched 4 days ago. I have celiacs disease and even the smallest traces of it can make me sick or have digestion issues. Ever sense I started this pill I have been nauseated which I know is a side effect but my stomach has been swollen and I've been having digestion issues. Does any one know if mono-linyah is or is not gluten free??? I did not have this trouble with yaz. ## Mono-Linyah uses corn starch as an ingredient, so there is no gluten. It has, however, been known to cause abdominal distention as a side effect, along with the nausea, and general indigestion. How are you feeling, now? Has there been any change?

This past Friday I had a doctor visit and was just given birth control (mono-linyah) for the very first time. At the appt. i was told to take the first pill the first night I get my period. I got my period Monday so I took the first pill (which is the blue). After reading things online and talking with someone today (Wednesday), I'm concerned I already messed this up and since I'm on my period i should've taken the white pill (even the pill packet instructions don't say what color to take on your period). I'm really confused now and hope someone can help me. Should I finish taking the white pills til I'm done with my period and then start back on the blue pills? (I've only taken 3 so far) OR Should I keep doing what I was doing and stay taking the blue? ## No...

After starting Mono Linyah I spot each month the week before my period. Usually only 3 days. The past 2 months I start spotting the week before my period until my period starts. And I have constipation each month up to a week, using Miralax & fleet enemas is the only thing that gets me regular. Is this related to the hormones? Also, where do these hormones come from? Man made? Plant based? Animal based? ## Hello, Sierra! How are you? Both of those issues have been reported as possible side effects of oral contraceptives by the FDA. You may also experience dizziness, headache and PMS-like symptoms. Have you informed your doctor? It might be that this just isn't the right one for you to take and you may need to try a different oral contraceptive. ## Thank you. I do have an appoint...

I was diagnosed with PCOS. I have been taking mono-linyah since August. My doctor said I should not have a period but I have still been spotting non stop. I was instructed to only take the blue pills. Is this normal? ## Hello, Carrie! How are you? Yes, spotting can be a normal side effect for the first 3 months, or so, while your body is getting used to the medication, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, and PMS-like symptoms. If it continues past that time period, or if the bleeding becomes heavy, you should consult your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Between my second and third pack I started spotting. It has now been over 3 weeks of spotting every day. From 2008-2016 I was on ortho-tricyclen. I stopped taking my birth control September of 2016 because I was no longer sexually active and I wouldn't be for quite some time. I began taking mono linyah june of 2017. I'm still within the 3 month period of my body getting used to the pill, but if I forget to eat with it I wake up as I am extremely nauseous. Most times I end up vomiting 3-4 times within the morning to early afternoon. I also experience brown discharge frequently. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? ## The brown discharge is normal, that's usually just old blood that wasn't released during your last period. The nausea can also be a typical side effect, according to FDA reports, you may also experience dizziness, headache, and irritability. How are you doing,...

I just started mono-linyah for painful periods about two weeks ago. I missed a dose 3 days ago due to a stomach bug. started bleeding yesterday and its a little more than spotting, only a week and a half after the last day of my period. The blood is bright red And dark brown which are both different from my normal periods. Just before I started taking mono-linyah I saw the doctor for an assumed injury from coughing in my upper right side just under my rib cage. Im worried it might be connected to that somehow. Any thoughts? ## Hello, Maddie! How are you? According to the FDA listed information, it is normal for breakthrough bleeding or spotting to occur for about the first 3 months, after starting an oral contraceptive, due to your body getting use to the changing hormone levels. You sh...

I've been taking Mono-linyah for about 2 months. I've been having extremely heavy periods and they stop for maybe 3 days and they are right back throughout the blue and white pills. Its to the point that I'm about to try something else. Normally my period lasts about 3 to 4 days and its gone. I've tried the Depo shot but had a bad problem with weight loss due to it. Is there any b/c pill that more or less stops your period? I know its natural but I'm a very active person working 6 days a week with how painful its been some days its hard to even be standing straight up ## Hello, Tamara! How are you? I started taking Mono linyah and on my second row of blue pills I started my period. My cramps are horrible, and tomorrow will make a week being on it and it's very heavy. I didn't even make it through the whole birth control prescription before starting my period. I didn't even make it to the sugar pills. Is this normal?! ## Hello, Kailee! How are you? Yes, that can be a normal side effect for the first 3 months, or so, while your body is getting used to this medication. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability. However, if the bleeding becomes very heavy, or doesn't stop, after a few months, you should consult your doctor as this may not be the right medication for you. are the inactive ingrediants the same for sprintec and mono-linyah. picked up my daughter's refill of sprintec today and they substituted with mono-linyah. The pharmacy staff reassured me everything was identical. My daughter is afraid to take it because she has had sensitivities before and had just completed a year long course of acne treatment. They claim that sprintec is unavailable and have no idea if and when they will get it in. ## Hi Jane, Based on my research, these medication "do" contain a different set of inactive ingredients. Each blue Sprintec tablet is said to contain the following inactive ingredients: anhydrous lactose, FD&C blue no. 2 aluminum lake, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, and pregelatinized starch. Each white tablet contains only inert ...

So this is my first month taking Mono-linyah. I usually take Previfem but they didn't have it. Well the pharmacy had the Mono-linyah ready a day later than they were supposed to so when I got the pack (on a Tuesday instead of a Monday). I took the missed pill asap (I took it less than 1 day late) and then the pill that was supposed to be taken that day and have been taken them regularly since. My fiance and I had intercourse 1 to 2 days before I started the pack. I also had some light pinkish/brownish spotting after I doubled up on the pills. Could this spotting be break through bleeding? I am also almost done with the 3rd week in the pack and also feel bloated. ## Hello, Cassandra! How are you? Has there been any change? It can be a normal side effect, according to the FDA, to expe...

JUST WANTED TO know if anyone taking this one had a problem with weight gain, im very nervous that it will make me gain weigh,,,,, ## Hi debby, When it comes to birth control pills, weight gain happens to be a "very common" side effect for any brand of oral contraceptive. This is mostly because of the fluctuations in your hormones. I wouldn't necessarily be afraid of gaining weight though as long as your exercising daily, staying hydrated, and eating an otherwise healthy diet. A list of side effects for Mono-Linyah (ethinyl estradiol/norgestimate) can be found here: dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/drugInfo.cfm?id=76450#nlm34084-4 I hope this helps! ## I gained 20lbs from it and I work out and eat like a rabbit.
