What ever happened to this drug? It helped me so much to function but also relieved all kinds of pain in my body. I know it is an older drug from the 60's but it was a God send to me. Today I am on pain meds that don't work that well, and my mind races which is exhausting. I wish I knew of someone who still makes it. ## Meprobomate is classified by the FDA as a tranquilizer, it is still available, but is rarely prescribed, now, since it has been replaced with safer, and more effective medications. They also warn that it can cause physical dependence with long-term use, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, headache, dizziness, sedation, and the formation of bezoars that may require surgical removal. Overdoses have also been known to be fatal. What medications are you curre...

I was on prescription painkillers with meprobamate and have now stopped. Can I take tryptophan to help with the withdrawal ## Hi Anand, From what I've read, L-Tryptophan is known for its use in helping patient's reduce the severity and occurrence of certain withdrawal symptoms upon stopping those types of medications. Apparently, the body creates 5-HTP from it, which then starts the conversion process to serotonin and melatonin. You'd ultimately have to talk with your doctor about proper dosing, but it sounds like some people have had success taking 3000mgs/day in divided doses. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Tryptophan Details I hope this helps!

My mother is a cancer survivor and currently taking Femara. She also takes Meprobamate, Simvastatin, Fluticasone Propionate, Plavix, Omeprazole, Coreg, Digoxin, Zestril, Zyrtec and Aleve. I am shocked at how many drugs being prescribed by several different doctors. How can I makes sense of all of this with so many doctors involved. Are there any reactions I should be concerned with. Thank you. ## I am also a cancer survivor. Your mother needs to get clean of all these meds unless she has high blood presure. She is doing more harm then good. She needs to detox, eat well and step aside from all these advertised drugs. ## No one should stop any prescribed medication, without their doctor's approval. Doings so risks experiencing serious, and possibly fatal, physical harm. LaurieAnn, are...

is Soma considered an opioid? ## No. It isn't related in any way to opioids. It is related to an ancient tranquilliser called meprobamate which was widely used in the 1950s but hardly at all since benzodiazepines hit the market. Another name for carisoprodol is ISOMEPROBAMATE. An amount of your Soma/Carisoma is metabolised by the liver into meprobamate so as well as being a superb muscle relaxant it does have a slight tranquillising effect. Barely noticeable though it does tend to potentiate the triazolo-benzos like alprazolam. I wonder where the notion that it was an opioid came from? That's one I never heard before! ## soma is not a opiate, IN FACT IN THE USA IT IS NOT EVEN A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE!. i never understood what all the hype was about, they only putt me to sleep. BUT...

The generic of stilpane tablets ## Stilpane is listed as containing 320mgs of Paracetamol, 32mgs of Caffeine, 150mgs of Meprobamate and 8mgs of Codeine, so you'd be looking for something with the same ingredients. Your doctor or pharmacist should be able to help you find one. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?
