I recently made the effort to discuss my problems with insomnia again, after many years, with my doctor. Without insurance, I floundered for years while exploring my options. I had initially found a manufacturer's coupon online some years ago that did away with the copay that my at-the-time insurance coverage would leave me to pay, which was $10. The coupon did away with this fee, allowing me to receive my medication for free, at $0. I was originally prescribed this medication in 2011/2012, with wonderful results that allowed for a much appreciated uplift in my mood and energy. Upon being once again prescribed this medication, this time lacking any insurance, even - I attempted to navigate towards lunesta.com in hopes that I could receive the same deal, or at least one similar - and...

Used Lunesta and Ambien and both times had severe reactions that left my body rigid. I felt like I was 'out of body' Very scary. ## It definitely sounds like the sedative hypnotics are causing an adverse reaction for you. There are other options that your doctor can try, including some of the antipsychotic medications that can help with insomnia problems, but do not carry the same types of side effects since they are a completely different class of medications.

I have been diagnosed with the flu and told to get lots of sleep. I have severe insomnia. I take Lunesta every night to sleep, or I don’t sleep. Can I another Lunesta 12 hours later to sleep during the day as well? ## Hello, Deidra! How are you? I'm sorry that you're sick! No, it would be best to take it only as prescribed. Taking too much could result in next day impairment, and possible overdose, according to the NIH. I tried this once years ago and it caused a very nasty taste in my mouth, rather metallic and I couldn't get rid of it, no matter what I tried. Have you experienced such a problem?

I've been on lunesta for 10 years straight. I have to take at least half of a 3 mg pill every night or no sleep. If there are any side effects, I am not aware of them. Anyone else been on the pill that long? ## Hello, Mark! How are you? I am glad this medication is working so well for you, without causing side effects. Some of its typical ones, according to the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, next day hangover-like effects, and funny taste in mouth. Can anyone that's been on it long term chime in with their experiences? ## Yes, please do. Any feedback is welcome. ## Mark, Hi, I can speak to more than a handful of clients currently being treated at our facility that developed a tolerance to this benzo like substance which lunesta is categorized as. Although not a tra...

My doctor made a mistake on my prescription which was later corrected. I was taking 3 mg tablets. They took a long time to kick in. The mistake was 1 mg tablets. When I took 3 of the 1mg tablets, they kicked in immediately and I could barely wake up the next day. I've gone down to two of the 1mg tablets and am sleeping so much better. Does Lunesta metabolize differently in the different sizes of pills? I cannot find any information on this. ## It isn't that it metabolizes different, but they will just digest and be released differently in your stomach. The 3mg tablet is larger, so it will take awhile longer to start to digest… but the 1mg tablets are small and get digested quicker, so the medication is released quicker. Does that make sense? If not, please let me know and ...

Are two 1mg Lunesta tablets the same as one 2 mg tablets? ## Mathematically yes, but when you take two 1mg tabs, you are also getting double the amount of inactive ingredients (binders/fillers); which are actually detrimental to how the drug is metabolized and used by your body. As far as your reaction goes, there is really no way a doctor or anyone else for that matter can know ahead of time how any medication can affect anyone. They can only assume that it will be effective based on medical records, current health, age, what the condition is, whether or not any other medications are being taken at the same time, etc. Any of these factors as well as others can affect how you end up responding to this drug. If one tab just isn't cutting it while you're weening off, I would encou...

Took 2mg Lunesta for first time last night. It was too strong and I woke up to groggy. Can I cut this pill in half for a lower dose? ## The FDA does warn about that happening to some people that take Lunesta. As to cutting, or breaking them, no, the manufacturer warns that you should not do so. If you feel you need a lower dose, you should consult your doctor. Other Lunesta side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth. Ref: Medline Plus Lunesta Is there anything else I can help with?

If I split a 3 mg Lunesta and took 1/2 (1.5mg) at 10 PM and the other half (1.5mg) at 3 AM. Would that be the same as taking 3mg at the same time? Or would it just be like taking 1.5mg and 1.5mg? I would get the effect of just 1.5mg each time rather than the effect of taking 3mg at the same time. Hope I have explained this properly. ## Hello, Alice! How are you? You can't take half a pill and get the effect of taking a full one. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and funny taste in your mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Can taking Lunesta 3mg cause UTI? ## I don't understand. I'm wondering if I take 1/2 in the evening and 1/2 in four hours would it be the same effect as taking 1 x 3mg ...

I'm 36 year old female. I've always had insomnia since childhood. This summer it got to the point I was getting zero sleep. My doctor prescribed 3mg Lunesta every night. She said many of her patients tolerated it very well, so I should have no problem. Within the first five days, I lost my coordination and walked into furniture, making a giant bruise on my leg. I thought it was just a random accident. Then a few days later I got a staph infection in my inner thigh -- first time in my whole life. Dr put me on Keflex. Over the next week, my memory and concentration weakened. I felt like I was lost in fog. Then I got indigestion. I thought it was from the Keflex. The Keflex ended, infection gone (not without leaving a scar), and still the weird symptoms continued to escalate. My en...

I have only been taking lunesta(1mg) for 2 nights now, but both mornings I have woken up with my forearm completely numb. The second morning was much worse than the first, so much that it scared me. Has anyone else experienced this? I also take 10mg of Adderall almost every day, could this cause a bad reaction with lunesta? ## Hello, Vic! How are you? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed. However, Lunesta has been known to cause some problematic side effects, in some people that take it, such as thrombophlebitis, so you should stop taking it and see your doctor to figure out what's going on. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and funny taste in mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for the...

I was on ambien but it stopped working for me. Dr gave me lunesta. First night I took it I slept some. No sleep second night and tonight I'm still awake. I took the lunesta and a melatonin at 8pm. I'm afraid I'm in for another sleepless night. ## Sadly, not every medication works for everyone that tries it. It can also depend on what you eat, your sugar and caffeine intake. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, funny taste in mouth, and next-day hangover like effects. Do you practice good sleep hygiene? Such as not having alcohol caffeine, or sugary foods within 3 hours of bed time? Keeping a consistent bed time and wake time? Are you on any other medications? How long have you been dealing with insomnia?

I'm a 40 year old male and have been taking Lunesta for about 2 years now. Over that time I have have slowly lost my libido until now when I don't have any. Anyone else experience this? All of my parts work, but the interest is just gone. ## Yes, this has been reported in various clinical studies according to NIH reports. It has also been known to cause next day hangover-like effects, funny taste in mouth, and hallucinations. Have you consulted your doctor? There is also a chance that it could be caused by some other issue. Are you on any other medications?

have been on generic lunesta for over 5 yrs - want to get off totally. what is best way? currently take 2mg every night - do I need drs help to do this? can I start cutting in half every night, then every other night, and keep taking 1/2 tab for a few weeks; then cut into quarters, and do the same? or is it advisable to have the doctor wean me off? thanks! I have fibro, had lyme a yr ago and know I will probably be back to the insomnia, but am trying to get off all meds (including bp) realize it will take some time, but gotta do it!!! ## Hello, Catsmeow! How are you? From what they say on the Lunesta website, it is not supposed to be habit forming and can be taken for as long or short of a duration as needed, which I would assume means you can just stop it. However, I'd suggest doub...

My stomach gets quite upset? Thank you

The 3 mg tablets do not help me, seems like 2 do but is that safe? ## actually what is the highest dose anyone has taken? seems like my tolerance is high. ## That dosage is safe, prescribing info says it has been tested safe up to 7.5mgs, but I would recommend talking to your doctor, he might want to try something different for you that could work better instead of taking your dose up that high. ## It depends on your body. I took 9mg Lunesta + 5 Ambien & slept great. My doc wasn't very excited and wont give me any more. So instead I take 2mg Klonopin, 10 mg Ambien, 25/50 Topamax and something else.

I took 6 mg lunesta on an empty stomach. When can I eat again? How many hours after taking lunesta can I eat without it interrupting the effects of the medication? ## Hello, Michelle! How are you? There shouldn't be any issue with eating and taking this medication. The FDA warns that it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, hallucinations, and sleep actions. However, you should be going to bed, shortly after taking it, and not taking it early enough to require a meal. Are you on any other medications?
