I have been taking lovenox post heart attack for 4 days. Is it ok to take plavix too ? ## WHEN I CAN USE PLAVIX AFTER FINISH WITH LOVENOX ## Both Lovenox and Plavix are blood thinners, so you should always follow your doctor's instructions for taking them, and not combine them, unless specifically instructed to do so, since it could create an increased risk of bleeding, and possible hemorrhage. Are either of you on any other medications? In the case of heart attack, you should take the one your doctor has told you to take, for your own safety. Do you know what caused your heart attack?

for getting an authorization thru pt's insurance what cpt code do we use for Lovenox? ## I HAVE THE SAME DOUBT ## If you can't get it through the insurance company, apply directly to the mfg. When my husband was told he would need to be on Lovenox the rest of his life, we checked with our local Walmart and was told that the monthly prescription cost for 60 shots was going to be $8,100 (no, this is not a typo) without any insurance contribution. With his Part D contribution, the price went down to $5,100 which still wasn't an option. He applied to the mfg for relief and was denied since he had private Part D insurance. He appealed the decision and was authorized by the mfg to receive the Lovenox at no cost.

What can I do with 8 boxes of this expensive drug? ## The only thing I can suggest is taking it into your doctor or to your pharmacist and let them handle it. Some states have a program where you can turn in left-over medications and they are then provided to people without insurance at a very steep discount. Otherwise, I really can't help, since giving them to someone else is considered illegal. Have you tried contacting a pharmacy to ask? ## I would like to look into a way to get them donated...I am going through Chemo and today they found a blood clot and prescribed Lovenox. I then got the call from the pharmacy that my prescription limit has been met and I have to pay out of pocket which is not possible for me...please don't dispose of them... ## I'd like to help, but I ...

I have been taking Lovenox for 1 1/2 years for a DVT (ankle to groin) and multiple clots in my lungs (all four quadrants). No one can figure out WHY I grew the super clot...it did not reabsorb and is still there. I had a Tulip filter put in before surgery (remove ovary) because suspected cancer...pathology was normal, but the CA 'number' went down. I now have osteoporosis (my Dr. says is from Lovenox)...I don't want more clots, what am I to do???? ## Clots are generally related to one's diet and/or smoking habits. In my honest opinion the best way to clear blood clots is to clean your blood. The best way to clean your blood is to eat primarily fruits and vegetables in their fresh raw state. For something similar to a blood transfusion, I'd highly recommend a double s...

I took Lovenox as a post surgical bridge therapy for my coumadin needs. I had a radical prostectomy and began lovenox treatment about 30 hours afterwards. Within 2 days I was readmitted to the hospital with a massive internal hemitoma. My bladder tore away from my urethra and left me with permanent nerve damage in my legs and facing numerous surguries including urethra reconstruction. I've had a catheter for over a year and a half. Be VERY careful with this drug. I now opt for heparin which is monitored in Hospital until my coumadin levels are acceptable. This drug is not FDA approved for these uses, please use caution.

I was given a shot of Lovenox after being admitted to the hospital. I had NEVER had Lovenox before. I felt just fine while sitting there talking to the nurse before the shot. She gave me the shot and suddenly I WAS NOT FINE! I had extreme nausea and shortness of breath, I felt faint, weak and shakey! I asked to see a DR. ASAP as I had NEVER felt o SICK in my life! The Dr. stated that the shot could not have done this to me! I contiued to feel extremely sick, with above symptoms for the next 12 hours, and I am still not RIGHT! I developed a bad case of Gastrtis, and stomach pain, loss of appetite and EXTREME weakness, Diarreaha for the next 16 days. I have researched the drug LOVENOX on the internet and found tha other patients reported the same symptoms, yet the Drs. say that Lovenox di...

I have been on Xarelto for 2 years for DVT my doctor said, I have to be on it indefinitely. My problem is, I have 2 pills left and my insurance has been cancelled. I'm in the process of getting new coverage but it takes 5 to 7 business days. Can I go without Xarelto for several days? Should I take a Lovenox inj. that was prescribed for me before I started taking Xarelto? Would this be a problem? ## Hello, Nickie! How are you? Have you found a solution, yet? It would be best to call your doctor to ask them, before using the Lovenox. These medications may cause side effects such as nausea, increased risk of bleeding, easy bruising, and dizziness. As to the Xarelto, you should also be able to just purchase a few days worth from your pharmacy, until your new insurance coverage begins.

How does Lovenox bridge therapy work? I need an explanation in full detail. Thanks ## Lovenox contains the active ingredient Enoxaparin, it is used for its ability to thin the blood, to prevent clotting. Bridge therapy refers to using it, for its immediate effects, during a time period when the patient is started on a new medication, such as Warfarin, or when they are at higher risks of blood clots. The dosage of a medication like Warfarin must be carefully adjusted to get the desired results and like many medications, it takes some time to reach its full effect in the body. And since it does, the Lovenox is often used during that time period, to help prevent clotting in the patient, until the Warfarin or another medication can reach its full effectiveness, then the Lovenox is usually s...

I have been on lovenox for 5 days. I am beginning to hate this stuff. I take my shots at 9am and pm. In the morning it seems like I get about 30 minutes after and I am ready to lay down. I also get chills and feel like I am paralyzed.. It makes my legs and arms very heavy to move. I am typing this after my worse night thus far... Do hot my pj's are wet yet if I uncover then I get a chill. This just sucks. I use a compression sock during the day but it makes my legs very itchy and of course I don't want to scratch. ## Hello, Wayne! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. Those can be typical side effects of Lovenox and most blood thinners/anticlotting agents, there have been many posts complaining about similar issues and some people have even ha...

After searching quite a bit, I finally found an organization that will take leftover Lovenox for donation: World Medical Relief (worldmedicalrelief.org). I wanted to post this here because it was so difficult finding a place to donate these, and hopefully this will help other people donate (rather than destroy) their left-over Lovenox. ## Hi Corie, Thank you so much for sharing this important information and resource here. Leftover medication that costs hundreds if not thousands of dollars are constantly in jeopardy of being washed down the toilet (causing environmental concerns), or otherwise being improperly disposed of due to a lack of knowledge and information provided by the pharmacists who dispense it; let alone finding a place like you have. It is my opinion that these medical do...

My husband is currently taking 2 shots of Lovenox a day. I believe each is 125mg? He went to his hematologist the other day and it was found that his platelets are decreasing. Could Lovenox cause this? I really hope not because they state since he was on Coumadin/Warfarin for more than 20 years, that the Coumadin no longer provided the effects necessary to keep his blood thinned out to prevent blood clots. ## Yes, Lovenox has been known to cause that, he may require a dosage adjustments, or to try a different medication. Does he also watch his diet? While on a blood thinner, he should stay away from dark leafy greens, such as spinach, that contain a lot of vitamin K. Some other medications, and foods, may also cause additional blood thinning. Is he taking anything else?

Can a chest port or any other type of port be used to administer lovenox ## Hi terry, If you're preparing for a port placement, an article by Ohio State University Medical Center advises talking with your doctor first when it comes to taking any blood thinning medication such as Lovenox. From there, they go on to state that you might need to change medications or make adjustments to the amount you take prior to the surgery. Ref: patienteducation.osumc.edu/Documents/subcu.pdf After you've informed your doctor of what you're taking, that would probably also be the best time to ask if Lovenox is still compatible after the surgery as well. Information I'm finding suggests that it should be fine to administer in such a way, but it's always best to double check with your d...

Lost my health insurance and just found out I have another DVT. I take 150 mg injections and I only have 10 left. Pharmacies are charging around $3,000 a month, I don't see how anyone can afford that. I just need enough until December when my insurance kicks in with my new job. What is the best way to get Lovenox for a reasonable price? ## Hello, Carrie! How are you? There is an assistance program through Sanofi for uninsured patients called Sanofi Patient Connection. You can call them for an application and program details at 888-847-4877. I've found most of these programs to respond pretty quickly to keep people from missing doses of their medications. This medication may cause side effects, such as dizziness, increased risk of bleeding and administration site irritation. Is t...

About 14 yrs ago while pregnant I had to use Lovenox. My doctor then ordered it with an injector pen. I must have thrown the pen away thinking I would not need it again. Since then the pharmacists say there is not such a device for Lovenox now and the have not heard of one in existence.. Has anyone else used an injector pen? If so, how and where did you get it? ## From what I could gather, apparently the auto inj. pen is like having a "pre-filled" syringe. It's described as being a pen-like device that keeps the needle point shielded before administering the dose. I've seen similar products go by the name of "autoject 2"...and if you google "auto inj.", there are also a number of sites who offer what I would imagine to be comparable alternatives to what y...

My mom's 88 yrs. She has a pacemaker, AFIB, CHF, History of TIA's, and both her siblings had strokes. She has to have a bronchoscopy so they want her blood thicker. She's been on coumadin since 2009. Her cardiologist called her 'low-risk', and told her to stop coumadin 5 days prior to procedure, but my sister and I think lovenox is more appropriate? I don't get how they can say she's low stoke risk. Stroke is our biggest fear. ## Have you discussed your concerns with her and her doctor? His opinion of her being at low-risk is based on her current health and medical history, but by all means if you disagree you should say so. It may also be safer for her to taper for awhile before the procedure, rather than just stop abruptly.

I have been taking Lovenox (generic) injections since mid October when a small blood clot in my lung was discovered on a CT scan. Since that time, I haven't had too many problems with administering the drug except that sometimes when I put the safety on the needle, a tiny stream of the medicine comes out. Usually, it's only a few drops that come out and I was told that this is normal but sometimes it's more than a few drops. I can't seem to get a straight answer about this from the nurses in my hematologist's office. It doesn't have anything to do with my technique because I'm doing everything the same way. I'm very careful about getting the plunger all the way down and I wait a few seconds before I pull it out. Has anyone experienced what I'm talking...

are there any? I think that having to give yourself shots is pretty barbaric and think that before a doctor puts a person on warfarin the patient should be made aware of this gross and creepy shot deal when you are taken off warfarin for a procedure or surgery...when are the doctors going to bring out the leeches? I am SO MAD that I have no alternative to these stupid shots...I am needle PHOBIC which all my doctors knew about and YET here I am having to do TWO shots a day into my stomach!!! Are they insane? Sadistic? What is with the medical community??? ## Hello, Lucy Lou! How are you doing? I'm sorry that you're so upset. However, if there were an alternative, you wouldn't have to do the shots, your doctor would have provided you with the other option. There just aren'...

I WAS PLACED ON ELIQUIS FOR PROVOKED DVT FROM A KNEE INJURY. SEVERE FATIGUE AND HEADACHE ON THIS MED. SWITCHED TO LOVENOX. WITHIN 5 DAYS OF STARTING, I DEVELOPED INCREASED HEART RATE, FLUTTER AND AFIB. STRESS TEST SHOWS NO CAD AND NEG CT FOR PE. I FEEL THE SXS ARE FROM THE DRUG. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS ISSUE. ALSO HAVE CHILLS EVERY EVENING. ## Lovenox has been known to cause Afib as a side effect, according to FDA warnings, as well as heart failure, increased risk of bleeding, anemia, and easy bruising. As to the chills, it has also been known to cause a fever. Have you consulted your doctor about trying a different medication? There are some news ones available that might work better for you.

I have a friend adding me if there is any way to prevent the bruising all around her body she has been getting (non-trauma related and not at the injection sites) while on Lovenox. Any advice? ## If she's experiencing bruising, without having bumped into anything or fallen, then she needs to consult her doctor. Her blood may be thinning too much and he dose or medication may need to be adjusted. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, are administration site soreness, easy bruising and headache. Is there anything else I can help with? ## When you take it out to use, flick it so the air bubble is near the plunger, opposite the needle. Do not try to squirt the air bubble out. When you inject it make sure it is vertical, needle down. They package them with a little air bubble so when...
