I have been taking lipitor for about five years, and my last annual physical showed I am now pre-diabetic. I have an older sister, who was diagnosed with diabetes last year, and she had been taking lipitor for many years. There is no history of diabetes in my family, on either side, so I am very concerned that Lipitor is causing the problem. My doctor says I need to stay on the medication, that if I quit taking it, my cholesterol levels will peak. Right now I am in the low-normal range. In reading the studies on-line, it says if you quit taking Lipitor, there is a chance of getting a stroke. Nevertheless, I am determined to go off the Lipitor. What is a common ingredient found in Losartan, Lipitor, and Zoloft? The first two gave me a dry hacking cough, and now I am getting the same side effect from Zoloft. Please help! ## There is no common ingredient, but each of them can cause that type of problem, in some people, due to the way they work in the body. Losartan is the active ingredient in that one, it's a generic for Cozaar, which is an ARB used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions. Zoloft contains the active ingredient Sertraline, which is an SSRI antidepressant. Zocor contains the active ingredient Simvastatin, it is used to help lower cholesterol. So, none of them are used to treat the same conditions and they aren't in the same medication classes. I tend to have similar problems with a lot of medic...

will taking plavix and lipitor have any effect on a dui bac? ## They aren't going to change the results, per se, but they can make alcohol have more of an effect on you than normal, so you may seem more impaired than usual after just a few drinks. In addition, it can cause some of the side effects to worsen, such as dizziness, drowsiness and nausea, which may contribute to the problem, in addition, alcohol can also thin the blood, which can increase the risk of bleeding, when it is used with the Plavix. Are there any other questions?

Is it okay to have grapefruit while taking Lipitor? ## It's true. You should not ingest grapefruit while taking Liptor, as it could increase the active ingredient's concentration in your bloodstream to unsafe levels. This applies to multiple statins including Lipitor (atorvastatin), Mevacor (lovastatin), and Zocor (simvastatin). ## I was told by a friend that you should not ingest grapefruit or grapefruit juice while on Lipitor.
