I want to know the use of this medicine in pregnancy, and the dose rate and duration in which it can be used? I'm afraid whether they'll be any side effects to the baby. ## Isoxsuprine is used during pregnancy to prevent premature labor. I was 34 weeks pregnant to a healthy baby (yes, very healthy, as reflected in the ultrasound monitoring) at the time i was prescribed isoxsuprine (isoxilan) in order to stop premature labor. That was the only drug prescribed and the only one i took 3x daily. 2 days after taking isoxsuprine, baby's heartbeat stopped. I made a research on the drug as i was told that the drug is banned in other countries except for some like 3rd world countries. Upon internet research i was able to read that information and much more as i read that isoxsuprine in some countries is "for veterinary use". What does it mean? Is isoxsuprine a killer drug? ## There are always possible risks to the unborn child when medications are taken. Your dr should have discussed this with you before you took the...

I am 20 weeks pregnant and my gynac prescribed above medicine for days for abdominal pain. Please advise is there any side effect of the same on my baby. ## Hi, Yogi! How are you doing? Congrats on the baby! If your doctor feels you need this, due to the pain you were having, then the risks would be far greater if you didn't take it as prescribed. Isoxsuprine helps increase blood flow to the baby, sometimes when you're pregnant it doesn't flow throughout your abdomen as well as it should due to the added weight of the baby or just sluggish blood vessels.
