Need to get hycodan tablets. My dog refuses to take syrup. I take 8mg of suboxone a day. I was prescribed hycodan cough syrup for strep throat today. The question is can I take them together! ## Was the prescribing doctor aware that you are on the Suboxone? I'd think it should still work and not cause any problems, since it's a liquid intended to work directly on the throat area, when you swallow it, but I may be wrong and would advise you to check into it, before taking it. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## HAVE TOU FOUND OUT IF YOU CAN TAKE THENM TOGETHER

My 7yr old poodle has a chronic cough with no evidence of a collapsing trachea. After trying many pills my vet decided on Hycodan 1.25 2x a day. It started workings at first but now my dog is starting to cough at 2am after getting a dose at 10pm. Not sure why he is starting to cough so soon after getting the medication, could seasonal allergies be contributing?

Is their a cheeper substitute replacin HYCODAN for a small dog? ## There are other alternatives for replacing Hycodan. I am not certain about the pricing, as it will vary with most retailers. But here are a few substitutes you may be interested in taking a look at; I am not a vet, nor an MD, but the following drugs are what I researched to be some of what other people are giving to their dogs under similar circumstances: Butorphanol (Torbutrol)..for coughing Theophylline..to help with breathing Chlorpheniramine..for allergies in small dogs and cats. Hi What dosage should a 22lb - 11 year old dog be on? ## Hi Joyce, From what I could gather, the following dosage is standard for suppressing a dog's cough: "Hydrocodone (Hycodan, Tussigon) 5mg tablet, oral solution. 0.25 - 0.5mg/kg po starting dose." The key factor in treating dogs with these medications is if you truly want to reduce or stop a cough you must be aggressive in both dose and frequency of administration. It often requires 4 to 6-hour administration to suppress a cough to a degree that you will notice clinical benefit. The only limiting factor to dose and frequency is sedation. The smell of Homatropine is so bad my dog coughs from it. Why would it be included in a Hydrocodone syrup for my dog's collapsing heart condition and heart mural valve problem? ## There is a cough syrup, called “Hycodan” that is prescribed for bronchitis, pneumonia and the like for severe coughing.. it’s only two ingredients or hydrocodone and homatropine. One teaspoon is equivalent to one 5mg Vicodin, or more known now as Norco. The difference being is that there’s no acetaminophen in the liquid versus the pill.. My dog has a grade 6 heart murmer and needs to take this medication. I'm trying to work with the liquid but its difficult. A white pill with a A on the top of line and 140 on the bottom of the line ## I cannot post a picture due to copyright reasons, however, I can tell you that this pill contains 1.5mgs of Homotropine and 5mgs of Hydrocodone, a generic for Hycodan. Several pharmacies would not fill the prescription, and they said it is no longer an approved cough medicine... This cough medicine worked...What is comparable that is available? ## No, Tussionex was one of the ones that did receive FDA approval. There are also several others that contain the same active ingredients that are approved, such as Hycodan, Mycodone, and Tussigon. Perhaps you should ask your doctor about prescribing one of them. FOR MY DOG 1/2 PILL THREE TIMES A DAY FOR COUGH & BAD HEART ## Tussigon, commmonly used for dogs, contains Homatropine and Hydrocodone. This is a narcotic cough medication, not a a heart medication. What would the name be on a bottle of liquid hydrocodone for being 5 mg ## Hi Carol, The only brand names I'm aware of are Lortab Elixir, Liquicet, and Tussigon. However, Lortab Elixir and Liquicet contain a combination of Hydrocodone + Acetaminophen; and not just Hydrocodone by itself. Tussigon also comes with Homatropine methylbromide, which is added to discourage overdosing. One other brand name containing the same ingredients as Tussigon is Hycodan, but this has reportedly been discontinued in the US. What brand name did you receive from your doctor?

looking for a full list of pain medications ## I'm not sure how complete this list may be, but posted below are quite a few prescription pain medications I came across (as of 2012). You just have to find a Vet that can fill that specific prescription. I have gone through several Vets to find the Tussigon cough medication for our dog. I finally found a great Vet that can fill the prescription in their office every 30 days. That's the easiest way to go. ## How many pills and what was the cost?
