Homatropine Methylbromide
68 Topics FoundHomatropine (Equipin, Isopto Homatropine) is an anticholinergic medication that is an antagonist at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors and thus the parasympathetic nervous system. It is used in eye drops as a cycloplegic (to temporarily paralyze accommodation), and as a mydriatic (to dilate the pupil). The related chemical compound homatropine methylbromide (methylhomatropine) is a different medication. Homatropine is less potent than atropine and has a shorter duration of action. It is ava...

small round white pill ## The pill which you are describing is Homatropine methylbromide (1.5 mg) + Hydrocodone (5 mg), which is used to treat coughing and other related upper respiratory problems. I was unable to locate a drug article with more information regarding this combination; but if you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to post back and I can research some more information.
1 REPLY Filed under Homatropine MethylbromideI have a bottle of Dia-quel in my medicine cabinet. Contains tincture of opium, homatropine methylbromide, and pectin. For diarhea. I can't find any info on it. What is it? Is it an antique? Safe to take? ## Dear Donna, I looked up Diaquel 4 u. It says it's a benzodiazepine derivative tranquilizer. It provides anticonvulsant, central muscle relaxant effect. I hope this helps. ## The details I've come across also state that Diaquel is a benzodiazepine class drug (more commonly known as Diazepam). Although from reading your description it sounds like you probably have a different product altogether. Do you know where the medication originated from or who might've manufactured it? Perhaps that'll give us some more clues to work with as we continue to search for relevant...

What are the side effects of this drugs in dogs? Is lose of appetite one of them? ## Hello, Based on my research, the Tussigon (Hydrocodone bitartrate + homatropine methylbromide) could possibly cause a dog to lose his/her appetite due to the fact that one of the common side effects is nausea/upset stomach. It is not uncommon for medications to cause these kinds of issues in humans and animals. If you have a dog that is experiencing a loss of appetite, I would contact a veterinarian as soon as possible. I hope this helps! ## My dog lost her appetite when taking Tussigon. She also had problems with her bowel movements which I attributed to her eating so infrequently. ## Unfortunately my little Angel died on February 7th. She would have been 15 on July 1st. I wish everyone success with th...
3 REPLIES Filed under TussigonI've been buying tussigon from costco. ## Tussigon contains hydrocodone (dihydrocodeinone) bitartrate, a semi-synthetic centrally-acting narcotic antitussive. Homatropine methylbromide is included in a sub-therapeutic amount to discourage deliberate overdosage. All of the big chain pharmacies should have access to this medication (on location or through mail order) if you present them with a valid script. Are you having any success or difficulties getting it filled through Costco?
1 REPLY Filed under TussigonWhat would the name be on a bottle of liquid hydrocodone for being 5 mg ## Hi Carol, The only brand names I'm aware of are Lortab Elixir, Liquicet, and Tussigon. However, Lortab Elixir and Liquicet contain a combination of Hydrocodone + Acetaminophen; and not just Hydrocodone by itself. Tussigon also comes with Homatropine methylbromide, which is added to discourage overdosing. One other brand name containing the same ingredients as Tussigon is Hycodan, but this has reportedly been discontinued in the US. What brand name did you receive from your doctor?
