Alka-Seltzer is an effervescent antacid and pain reliever first marketed by the Dr. Miles Medicine Company of Elkhart, Indiana, United States. Alka-Seltzer contains three active ingredients: aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) (ASA), sodium bicarbonate, and anhydrous citric acid.[1] The aspirin is a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory, the sodium bicarbonate is an antacid, and the citric acid reacts with the sodium bicarbonate and water to form effervescence.[2] It ...

I can not take any NSAIDs due to being a gastric bypass patient and there is too much of a risk of a bleed with these drugs.. I am already on hydrocodone so I can not take any other narcotic analgesics. Is there any other non narcotic chronic pain reliever out there to supplement the hydrocodone. Can't take tramadol now because NYS classified this as a narcotic. My doctor is going crazy trying to find something for me and has had no luck so far. ## Why can't you take another narcotic? They are very commonly combined to give someone better pain relief. People with severe pain are often given a long acting narcotic along with a regular or instant release one for breakthrough pain. But if your doctor doesn't want to combine them, you could switch to a different one that's s...

Hi All. I am new to this experience. I learned on 12.12.16 I had a 4.7 CM Gist in my stomach with a mitoic rate of 7. The gist was removed 1.12.17 and I began a 3 year journey on a daily dose of 400 mg of Gleevec on 1.25.17. As time progressed, so did my side effects. By April 2017 the side effects were beginning to side line me. It was difficult to quantify these to my team, made up of an oncologist, ontological surgeon and gastroenterologist. Oh and the Blue Shield research pharmacist also (A free and wonderful resource). I had "nausea" but was not inclined to upchuck. I had "reflux" but no pain. I was told I could dose down on the Gleevec - but that sounded like a a bad idea to me, long term. I was given Nexium, Carafate, all sorts of acid reducers to no avail. Ginger ev

I have been taking 15 mg of meloxicam for 3 weeks following surgery on my foot for joint pain and inflammation. It has been causing increasing stomach pain so today I decided not to continue with it. My intention was to not limit my mobility during therapy and my recovery period which could take several months to a year. What else could I take without the gastric upset? ## Hello, Fran! How are you? Did you try using an antacid and making sure not to take it on an empty stomach? These measures can usually help limit the gastric upset. Alternatively, you could speak to your doctor about trying something else, such as Tramadol, or Oxycodone, since they aren't as harsh on your stomach. The FDA warns, however, that they carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, su...

I'm on Norspan 20mg patches (7 day release). I am scheduled to go for bariatric (gastric sleeve) surgery and was wondering what pain relief I can be given/ask for (Pethidine is obviously out as Norspan is an opiate antagonist, but tramadol may work, but is not as strong as pethidine) ## I'm really not sure what all is available for you to use. Have you discussed it with your doctor? It might be necessary for you to stop the Norspan for awhile, before surgery, so other pain medications can be used. In the U.S. in hospital settings, the most commonly used medication is Dilaudid, which contains the potent narcotic analgesic Hydromorphone:

I had ruen y bypass in 2007 then in 2009 I was in car accident after all surgeries I ended up with failed back surgery syndrome. I currently am prescribed morphine sulfate 15mg 2x daily along with oxi ir 15mg 4x daily although the ms was just added recently cause the oxi was not managing the pain. the ms is not much help. would allowing it to soak under tongue help absorption? I'm looking for help to suggest to my pain management doctor for best medication for absorption do to bypass ## Hello, Justin! How are you? I'ms sorry that you're in pain. Actually, due to the absorption issue from the bypass, I'd suggest asking about one of the pain relief patches, such as Fentanyl. I have been on Breo for quite some time but was given a trial of Trelegy. Used for 6 days but had thick mucus in throat during night and heavy deep cough, back on Breo for 4 days then completed Trelegy for 8 days. The following day had bowel pain and mucus (diarrhea) for 3-4 days then constant fecal diarrhea. Put on Cipro & Metronidazole then off Cipro and on Amoxicillin-clav. Extreme pain & diarrhea during night, went to ER. Given IV meds and sent home with Diphenoxylate/atropine. At that point diagnosed with diverticulitis but no explanation how it was caused (I have had it but ALWAYS could determine what set it off). Finished all meds with no relief so put on Cholestyramine. Been on it for 8 days now and finally getting relief from constant diarrhea. This entire experience ha...
