Tamsulosin, sold under the brand name Flomax among others, is a medication used to treat symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and chronic prostatitis and to help with the passage of kidney stones.[5][6][7] The evidence for benefit with a kidney stone is better when the stone is larger.[7] It is taken by mouth.[5] Common side effects include dizziness, headache, sleeplessness, nausea, blurry vision, and s...

side effects ## I HAVE TAKEN FLOMAX 0.4MG FOR SEVERAL YEARS FOR URINARY FLOW. I HAVE PAID $9.00 FOR 30 DAY SUPPLY EACH TIME. YESTERDAY, THE COST WAS $22.00 AT WALMARTS PHARMACY WHERE I PURCHASE MY RX'S. HAS THE COST GONE UP THAT MUCH? PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANKS. ## Flomax contains the active ingredient Tamsulosin, and MedlinePlus lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, weakness, back pain, sleepiness, blurred vision, and others. Raymond, the price can vary regularly, depending on the going rate at the time they need to restock their supply. It sounds like the price was raised, but there is no harm in checking with other pharmacies to see if they have it available cheaper. Is there anything else I can help with? ## What is this pill designed to do and how does it...

I have been suffering occasional panic attacks when in stressful situations since taking Flomaxtra XL. Is this a coincidence or have any others had the same? ## Flomaxtra XL contains the active ingredient Tamsulosin in a time released formulation, it's used to treat difficult urination that's usually associated with an enlarged prostate. I haven't found such a thing mentioned in any of the side effect information, but it's always difficult to know how a medication may affect any given person that takes it. Learn more Flomaxtra XL details here. Have you talked to your doctor about it? How often does it happen?

be extremely careful when taking flomax and read the fine print. it tells you that you run the risk of dying from flomax if you do certain reasonable thing. like living. took flomax for 4 days, worked out in the yard for a couple of hours. laid down on the front porch and stopped breathing. but for the grace of God i am still here, disabled but alive. user beware. ## Wow, I'm actually surprised they allow drugs like this to remain on the market. If death is a side effect, then what's the point of taking it? LOL! no pun intended there. You can actually report experiences like this to the FDA's med-watch program if you wish to. I'll go ahead and post the link below so you can have a look at it: fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm Through here, you can report serious medica...

I have been on Flomax for over ten years. I also have had the side effects: stuffy nose all year long, thickness in the throat, some problems with retrograde emissions, and lightheadedness.. I have read about the side effects and decided that I would try and get off Flomax and just use saw palmetto, which I have also been using off and on over the years. I have been off the drug now for about three weeks and am finally I hope getting to the end of the drug withdrawal symptoms: bladder pain I assume from spasms, other intestinal and abdominal pain, some nervousness, problems urinating (getting going, stopping and starting, weak stream). The good part though is that overall I feel a lot better. I continue to take saw palmetto along with zinc. I am hoping I never have to go back on that dr...

You can read more details about the Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation Patient Assistance Program. I hope this helps and wish you the best!

20 months ago, June 13, 2011, my husband went blind after taking Flomax for 30 days. He is just now getting some of his libido back. He still has frequent urination issues. His CRP was very high on June 13th but it has been close to normal for several months. The specialists says that his optic nerve is dead and he will never see again. ## After just 30 days of use? Have they definitively attributed it to the Flomax? Anyone curious can read more Flomax details here. It's not that I don't believe you, I'd just like more precise details if you have them. There have been a lot of posts recently about vision problems arising from taking this medication and I'd like to know more to better advise future users. ## FYI.....this is odd. My husband had complications with cataract ...

After suffering from acute urinary retention a Fowley catheter was inserted in the emergency room after which i saw my urologist who immediately prescribed Flomax while keeping the catheter in place for five days. After removing of the catheter, urine flow started right away and I have had zero problems since while on Flomax. After seeing the litany of complaints about Flomax I can only say I have experienced zero side effects but noticed and enhanced libido and no retrograde emissions. I think this drug is great and a noticeable benefit is a significant reduction in blood pressure ## I am so glad that it's working so well for you! That's awesome! And it definitely has to be better than the catheter!! The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness...

Some say my Kidney Stone is too big to pass and some say I can. My Kidney Stone is 1.1cm and they put me on Flomax. This is my first one and I heard it's very painful. Can I pass this and will it help to drink lemon juice ?? ## Hi Sherry - sorry to hear about your kidney stone, that does not sound like fun at all :( I can't say whether you will be able to pass it and I'd have to defer to what your primary doctor thinks since they know your medical history. With that said, I think you must have been prescribed Flomax to help with your urination. Lemon juice is anecdotally reported to help prevent kidney stones from forming and enlarging because of the citrate in it - but I don't know if it will help to actually shrink your existing kidney stone. If you are being told it...

Can you take Flomax with Hytrin? ## Can you take Flomax along with Avodart or Hytrin? ## I'm a 56yr old male , with BPH , specific excessive nocturnal urinatios 3-5 x a night. I was up to 19 mg of Hytrin my physican recently put me on Flomax. .4 in the am and .4 in the pm . I don't think it's an improvement can I take 10 of Hytrin in the am and .4 Flomax in the pm ? Help , this is not right for a younger guy ! ## Flomax and Hytrin can both cause lowered blood pressure, so combining the two medications could result in it dropping dangerously low, which may result in extreme dizziness, drowsiness, and fainting. You can check the information here interaction checker. Thus, you should not mix them, without your doctor's approval. Ailin, unfortunately, medical issues rarely h...

I have been prescribed Flomax, Oxybutinin and Finasteride once a day for an enlarged prostate. Can I take all at the same time and when is the best time of the day to take them? ## There is no particular best time of day to take them, but the FDA does warn that the Oxybutynin may cause dizziness and drowsiness as side effects, so some people prefer to take it at night, to avoid experiencing such issues during the day. It is usually okay to take them all together, unless your doctor or pharmacist instructs otherwise. As to the Flomax, it should be taken approximately half an hour after the same meal each day to ensure steady absorption. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have a mechanical heart valve and I'm on Warfarin. My doctor wants me to take Flomax. Has anyone heard of any drug interactions between Flomax and Warfarin? ## I haven't been able to find any interactions listed by the FDA, or NIH, so far, but it is always best to double check to be careful. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Flomax as possibly including nausea, dizziness, stomach pain, and urinary retention. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank You :) It has caused my INR to go higher. I get it checked every week.

Can I use flomax with himaplasia? Himaplasia gives better results than flomax.. Urine flow is much stronger, no night visits to the bathroom, no dribbling or hesitation, bladder fully emptied, no burning sensation when urinating.... I don't want to stop taking it with a chronic need. I only started two days ago with himapasia and it has been wonderful and smooth feeling.

Had enlarged prostate made smaller 2 years ago...was 90% better for a year and a half but recently was having night problems with flow and starting. Took ONE Flomax 3 days ago, and was immediately better. Wanted to see if I could get away with every other day. Been 3 days now and everything still fine. Wonder how long this will last, primary dr. was surprised the slow flow and starting returned. ## Your doctor didn't provide you with any advice or information? Flomax contains the active ingredient Tamsulosin and, while it is normally taken daily, it is possible that it may work better for you taken every other day, or so. This method is frequently used with medications, when someone is very sensitive to them and experiences a lot of side effects, since it may help reduce them, but s...

OK guys, gals, ladies, and, gentlemen. I have been taking Flomax, starting in 1996, or since it's release, and at that time, depended on samples from my primary care doctor, because, at that time flomax was 100$ for 30 capsules. Then, when my insurance started paying, the generic Tamsulosin was released, and to date I have remained on this medication for bph, and prior to 1996 Hytrin was prescribed, which also worked for me. For 22 years I have had to take something for bph and I'm now 60 yrs old. OK, I said all that to say on this. For 20 yrs I've taken FLOMAX 0.4 MG Capsules, and never had any side effects, but on 1 or 2 occasions, I ran out and was off for maybe a week before I could not urinate, and had immense pain trying, and desperately was ready to rob a pharmacy to ...

My husband's age is 69. He is taking Amlodipine Besylate 5mg. He has just been prescribed Cialis and Flomax 0.4mg. for ED and BPH. Is there any "current" research showing a risk for lowering blood pressure to a dangerous low when taking all 3 meds conurrently? I have read that the FDA approved Cialis for urinary symptoms of prostate enlargement in 2011. His urinary problem is not severe...why could he not use Cialis to treat both ED & BPH and drop the Flomax? Also he plans to have cataract surgery and I have read that IFIS is caused by alpha blockers & can complicate surgery even months after stopping use of Flomax. ( He has not filled the RX for Cialis nor Flomax yet). Thank you for your time.

I was prescribed Flomax to help pass my first ever kidney stone. Is it normal to have to take this for 30 days? This seems like a long time to me. ## Hi Kimberly, Based on my research, Flomax is not intended to be used as short term treatment. As long as you aren't experiencing any negative side effects, just take it as prescribed as your doctor. I've read that Lemon Juice can be quite effective for those trying to pass the kidney stones. I'm sure you could also substitute other citrus fruits for lemons as well. I've read that juicing grapefruits is really good for the body- and since it's a citrus fruit I imagine it could help a great deal! I hope this helps! ## You can not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking flomax. This caution is on the prescrip...

Occasionally I forget to take FloMax with food. Usually a severe stomach ache results. Do others have the same problem? ## Yes, that can be a side effect, when you take this medication on an empty stomach, according to FDA reports. You may also experience dizziness, headache, and flatulence. Overall, it would be best to make sure that you take it with food. Even a small snack may help. Are you on any other medications?

I had surgery June 2nd 2017. After surgery I could not urinate so they put in a cath. After having the cath removed I took 1 flomax on June 5th 2017 around 4-4:30 in the afternoon. Haven't had any flomax since that time. Today is june 7th 2017. I have been taking Advil for pain. 8 during a 24 hour period because they said I could not take the hydrocodone with the flomax because of side effects. As it has been 48 hours since taking flomax, can I take the hydrocodone for pain now? ## Fred, hope you're healed now? Cath’s are the worst. Fast forward 1/9/2018, hope all is well and all you need is an Advil when you hurt; if you need that hydrocodone though go ahead. Good luck!
