My doctor just put me on effient today, the problem is I'm on my menstural cycle. Is it ok to take it ## Hi Michelle, Because Effient (Prasugrel) can put you at risk for serious bleeding, it may be a good idea to discuss this concern with your doctor before moving forward with treatment. Linked below is an important warning message regarding the potential for serious bleeding that can occur: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a609027.html NOTE: The bleeding mentioned in the warning section isn't necessarily related to bleeding that occurs during a menstrual cycle, so It's quite possible that it may still end up being fine for you to take. However I would always suggest playing it safe until further notice from your doctor, since you never really know what to expect from t...

I've been on Effient for eight months. Every morning I would get up bleeding from several places- typically on my arms, legs and chest. There would be a characteristic 'cut' a few inches long with tiny dots in the cut. Over time I determined insects were the cause. I place iodine on the incision and tiny bugs so small that as to be barely noticeable come out. They seem to be laid in the wound by larger bugs that look like a grain of ground coffee. No one else in the family shares this problem; I sleep in the same bed as my wife, etc. The larger bugs have skeletons and can be crushed. Sometimes I can see them 'jump' like a flea. For some reason, they're only interested in MY blood- it's like coke to them. Having the house sprayed by an exterminator helped but ...

I was switch to Effient after having severe reaction to Plavix. Since being on Effient My hair has been falling out by the handfulls . The condition of my hair now (whats left of it) causes constant snarling and looks so pathetic I don't want to go anywhere. I have fine thin hair to begin with, now I have lost just about all of it. I have never experienced anything like this before and very disturbing when you've had beautiful blonde hair all your life. I am well under 130 pounds and wondered if 10mg was too strong and if it might help with this problem if the does was cut to 5mg. Has anyone else experienced such extrem hair loss from taking effient? And if/what you did about it? I am also very sleeping during the day and easily fall asleep unintenionally. ## The tiredness and f...

I have recently had lots of anal bleeding, headaches, blood in nose. Today I called my doctor and he advised me to stop taking the effient and aspirin. He has given me a prescription for plavix today. This is a scary drug for me... ## Plavix contains Clopidogrel, which works a little differently, rather than thinning the blood to cause bleeding, it just inhibits clotting. That means you still need to be careful not to injure yourself, but there is less chance of the random bleeding like you were experiencing. Learn more Plavix details here. What are you taking it to treat? ## I have opted out of all the drugs that the cardiologist prescribed. I am now being treated by a naturalpathic doctor. Its much better and I'm no longer sick. The drugs were doing more damage than the heart atta...

I've been taking 5 mg Effient for approximately five years. Yesterday I was told by my cardiologist to stop taking these pills... somehow I feel nervous about this decision. Are there any thoughts on this? ## It is always best to follow your doctor's instructions. Why was it prescribed and why did your cardiologist tell you to stop taking it? Are you on any other medications? Effient, which contains the active ingredient Prasugrel, is used prevent blood clots that may result in a fatal heart attack. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nosebleeds, chest pain, easy bruising, and trouble breathing. I had 2 stents on February 3,2016. My bruising was so bad that just all I had to do was lay my arm down too hard to get another one. I started waking up to what looked like blood blisters under my skin. After researching a lot, I decided to take myself off Effient and continue with aspirin only after almost 4 months. So far, no problems and I feel much better. Off for 6 weeks now. Has anybody else stopped early??? ## Hello, Ruby! How are you? Wow! I can understand why you stopped taking it. However, since you did have 2 stents placed, it would be best to consult your doctor about taking a different medication for the rest of the time you need to take one to help make sure you stay out of danger. You are not the only one that has had such issues, though. The FDA warns that most of these ...

I am taking effient and have been for 6 weeks following a cardiac arrest and implementation of a bare metal stent in the LAD. It is determined that I am allergic to plavix and thus was prescribed effient. Has anyone complained of a very strong medicinal breath that I am unable to treat with constant brushing and mouthwash? ## I don't see it listed among the side effects, but such an issue is usually possible with most medications. The typical side effects include risk of bleeding, fatigue, headache, and peripheral edema. Is this the only medication you are currently taking? Have you consulted your doctor? Have others noticed the breath issue, or just you?

I have been having severe lower abdomen pain and my digestive Dr wants to do a colonoscopy ASAP, but he said he can't till my Cardiologist Dr will be willing to stop Effient and 81mg Aspirin for a few days before. My question is, is it ok to stop for a few days? I had a stent put in on Dec 1st, 2016. ## While this is commonly done, before some medical test, only your cardiologist can decide if it is safe for you to do so, since there is a risk of rebound clotting, and elevated blood pressure, if you suddenly stop the Effient. Have you consulted your cardiologist, yet? Has your doctor done any other tests to see what is causing your pain, such as an MRI, or ultrasound? Are you on any other medications?

I had 2 stents put in 6 months ago and my doctor told me i can stop taking it, but I'm nervous. ## It is always best to follow your doctor's instructions. The FDA lists there are being some possible risks, such as blood thickening and clotting, but it would seem your doctor thinks you are stable enough to be able to stop it, without any serious issues. Are you on any other medications? Do you have any other medical conditions?

Soon after my 86 year old mother takes Effient she gets rapid heartbeat and difficulty breathing. She is going to call her cardiologist tomorrow when they are open. Is this serious? Should she stop taking the drug immediately? ## Yes, those can be side effects of this medication, according to the U.S. FDA. She may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and blurry vision. How long has she been taking it? Side effects usually go away, after awhile, once your body gets used to a medication, but that could take about a month. ## She has been taking it about 3 weeks. Actually today for the 1st time she has not had any side effects. We are awaiting a call from her cardiologist. Most decisions concerning medicine are subjective. Even by professional doctors. Are these side effect serious...

I am on effient blood thinner after a heart stent placement. I was just prescribed efudex. will this increase the blood thinning effect ? ## If you're using it topically, the side effects are usually minimal. However, it would be best to double check with your doctor or pharmacist to be certain. Is your INR checked regularly?

Is it possible for Effient to lower my White Blood Cell Count? ## I wouldn't say it's not possible, but this is probably something you'd have to have a blood test for in order to truly determine whether or not it really does lower your white blood cell count and more importantly, by how much? NOTE: This medication works by preventing platelets (a type of blood cell) from collecting and forming clots that may cause a heart attack or stroke. I hope this info helps!

I am on effient 10mg also and 20mg of xarelto. Started it again 5 days ago but left side of chest feels a heaviness and dull pain. I have had several bouts with bilateral pulmonary embolism.
