Edex Alprostadil

Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1), also known as alprostadil, is a naturally occurring prostaglandin which is used as a medication.[1] In infants with congenital heart defects, it is used by slow injection into a vein to open the ductus arteriosus until surgery can be carried out.[2] By injection into the penis or placement in the urethra, it is used to treat erectile dysfunction.[3] Common side effects when given to babies include decreased breathing, fe...

Kindly let me know whether Topiglan cream (which can be used in the treatment of erectile disfunction) is available over-the-counter in India or if it requires a prescription to purchase this medication? ## Is Topiglan available in Europe too? ## Topiglan (Alprostadil) is a drug used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It is sold in the United States as urethral suppositories and in an inj. form. The suppositories are sold under the brand name MUSE (Medicated Urethral Suppository for Erection). The inj. forms are Edex and Caverject. From what I could gather this drug is not sold in other countries except U.S. and Canada. However I am sure there are other equivalent medications for the same treatment. This would be a good question to ask your local pharmacy - whether or not they ca...

I recently switched from Trimix to Edex, 40mcg cartridge. The URO has written on the label to "inject 40mcg into side of penis for erection". I tend to think 40mcg will be way too much and may put me in the ER. Has anyone used this particular type of Edex? I am thinking that at the most I should not inject more than 20mcg and then go from there. Any inputs or suggestions are appreciated.

I injected edex for the first time at home yesterday, and got little response, but I think I may have injected it too close to the glands. I didn't get a terrific response at the physician's office either and think I'm going to have to titrate the dosage, but I did want to ask about the injection site. The patient information recommends mid-shaft, but if you look at the prescribing information under "Dosage and Administration", I see a bit of conflicting language: "The site of injection is usually along the lateral aspect of the proximal third of the penis." This makes me think it should be more toward the base rather than mid-shaft. I'd be interested in others' experiences. ## I have used EDEX now for over a year. I inject at base of penis - if top m...
