original perscription for Cardizem 1st generic given diltiazem er 240mg cap last refilled with diltiaz cd 249/24 is this all the same med? ## Yes, they are all the same medication, 240mgs of Diltiazem in a controlled release formulation that's meant to be taken every 24 hours, they are just manufactured by different companies. Even the abbreviations mean the same thing, though they look different. The ER stands for extended release and the CD is for controlled dosage, but both designate that it is a time released formulation of the medication. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been told by my Neurologist that this drug Diltiazem cd can cause Parkinson like symptoms in a small group of people. Where can i find more info about this? ## Can somebody explain to me what the differences are between Diltiazem CD 180mg Cap(sule?) vs. Diltiazem HCL ER 180mg Cap(sule?). If I remember correctly, a pharmacist told me that the ER stood for extended release and that the CD type of the medication was quite different, but I'm not sure about that. TYIA. ## I'm sorry to post that to somebody's question. I don't know how to delete it but will post it as a different topic. What is the difference between diltiazem CD, diltiazem XR and diltiazem ER? Can you refer me to a website where I could research this information? ## There is no difference, it's just different abbreviations for the same thing, a time released version of the medication, some places will us CR, ER or XR, there is no definitive way that it has to be done. Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker used to treat hypertension and angina. You can read more here: Do you have any other questions? ## Not quite true. These are indeed all timed release versions of diltiazem, but they all use different drug delivery systems and are released into the body at different rates. I have been told by CVS that Diltiazem CD 120 mg cap is discontinued ## I haven't been able to find anything on this, but you are not the first person who has been told that by their pharmacy, so I can only assume that it's correct. The best suggestion I can make in this case is to contact your doctor and ask about getting an alternative medication prescribed. Running out and missing doses could be very dangerous, so you definitely need to avoid doing that. Does anyone know more about this? ## If Diltiazem 180 was discontinued, it's interesting that I just picked up my prescription today. Was told by CVS several months ago that Warfarin in 3mg pills was not available, but I found out it was. They apparently just switched suppliers. ## I have taken Diltiazem CD for about 10 y...

We take diltiazem cd in 240mg and 180mg. At this time we are unable to fill our prescriptions. The local pharmacies do not have prescripts in store and say their distributors do not have any stock and have no date when they may have some. Is there some problem with this med or do we need to change to something else? ## According to the FDA's webpage there aren't any current drug shortages of Diltiazem. I also don't think your doctor would write you a script for something that he didn't think could be filled. So I would imagine it's probably just those local pharmacies who haven't had a need to keep it in stock for a while. Have you tried contacting any pharmacies outside of your general area to see if anyone carries it? If it's of any help to your search, lis...

I am currently taking diltiazem dt 360 mg once a day and I would like to switch to diltiazem 24 hr er 180 mg twice a day because it is a lot cheaper. I don't know the difference between tr and er. some people say that there is not difference and others say that there is. ## Hello, Buddy! How are you? No, they are both time released, so there is no difference. However, you'll need to check with your doctor, before switching. Are there any other questions or concerns?

My new Dr has me on "diltiaz er xr". My previous Dr had me on "diltiaz er cd". Is there a difference? ## They are both the same, just different ways of designating them as being time released. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. From what you've listed in your post, they are the same and have just been manufactured by different companies. Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, headache, hypotension, lowered heart rate and stomach pain. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've had severe weight gain after being on nadolol for 2 years without success in diet plans. Dr switched me to diltizem CD 120 mg at bedtime. My heart rate was up to 100-110 today (I just started it last night and stopped the nadolol). How long does it take for it to have a full effect on my system? A few days or weeks? How long before I should tell my Dr to up the dose? Thank you. ## It may take about 4 to 5 weeks for it to reach its full level of efficacy in your body, and things are likely more severe, due to stopping the other medication and switching to the new one. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Diltiazem as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. How are you feeling, now? Has there been any change? ## I was on it durin...

Is it safe to switch from Metoprolol ER to Diltiazem CD without tapering off Metoprolol? And how long does it usually take Diltiazem CD capsules to get me out of AFib eppisode. ## Well, similar to the way the Metoprolol works, Diltiazem is not going to get you out of an A-Fib episode, what it does is help regulate the heart function to help prevent them from occurring to begin with. As to the direct switch, I am not sure and would suggest double checking with your doctor. The Metoprolol can cause rebound effects to your heart rate and blood pressure, if it is stopped abruptly. It may be necessary to taper off of it, or to adjust the initial doses of the Diltiazem to accommodate for this possibility. I had to stop taking Metoprolol abruptly, since I had very bad reactions to it, so my do...

i currently take diltiazem hydrochloride extended release caps 360 mg at bedtime....should it be taken in the morning instead? ## What have your blood pressure readings been during the day? This information is needed in order to answer your question. Learn more Diltiazem details here. In many cases, doctors do want someone to take such medications in the morning, so it helps to control their blood pressure or cardiac conditions during the time of day that they will be most active and therefore experience the most fluctuations. However, since it can cause drowsiness and dizziness as aide effects, some people do find them necessary to take at night, when they are going to bed. So, it really depends on your blood pressure or cardiac condition and your doctor's instructions.

My prior prescription said I could take without regard to food. The new one said take on an empty stomach. Both are 180 mg. ## Based on information I've gathered, Cardizem CD is just another brand name of Diltiazem XT (as they both contain the same active ingredient). Diltiazem is said to be the generic version, however both medications are reported to come in a 24-hour sustained-release capsule. Other than that, the only other differences may be that they are manufactured by separate companies, and possibly contain a different set of inactive ingredients, otherwise known as fillers. Some of these fillers may be a determinant as to whether or not is it best to take the pill on an empty stomach versus having it with food. For future reference, other brand names of Diltiazem include t...
