I have heard that some hospitals aerosolize decadron to treat asthma. I am trying to get information on the preparation that would be used and sge-specific dosages to use. ## Beth, From what you are describing, it sounds like the preparation which applies is called Decadron Turbinaire / Decadron Respihaler. Those administer Dexamethasone in an inhalant format. I pulled my back out two weeks ago. My doctor gave me a shot of decadron (steroid) and Valium. I only took 2.5 mg of Valium twice (I don't like taking things I'm unsure of) and it didn't get better all. If I took the last 2.5 mg 12 hours ago is it safe to take 5 mg of hydrocodone? It doesn't appear to interact with my steroid shot but wanted to be sure. ## Hello, IndianaGuy! How are you? I didn't find any interactions or problems listed between the Decadron and Norco, but you should always double check such information with your doctor or pharmacist. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. My husband is on 12 mg of Decadron a day for brain swelling due to brain tumor radiation treatments. He is a type 2 diabetic and his blood sugar goes sky high, often over 300. He is taking Ameril 4 mg 2x daily plus1000 mg Metformin 2x daily. He has just been prescribed insulin to help lower his sugar levels. How often should I check his sugar? Hello... I es suffering from Tb so my doctor hs advided me to take steroid (Decadron)24 mg per day bt slowly n steadily he reduces it n after 3 & half months i stoped taking it.. bt due to tje side effect of that drug i developed swelling on my face. pink capsule ## I was a hospice nurse years ago when pharmacies had to compound this 5 agent anti-nausea medication. They could make it in a capsule or suppository form. It contained: 10mg each of dexamethasone(Decadron) and motoclopramide(Reglan) 50mg of Dramamine,25 mg diphenhydramine(Benedryl) and 2mg of Cogentin. Originally used as an adjunct to chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting, it became a highly therapeutic choice for hospice patients as well. Please help ## If they have not been prescribed for him, he should not be taking them, even having them is illegal. This is a regulated prescription drug. I started Butrans 10 on 4/30. Had amazing relief. I felt better than I had in years. I caught a cold around April 20th. Went straight to my chest. My Dr thought I had walking pneumonia and started me on a course of steroids and antibiotics. 10 days later, no improvement, chest xray clear but wheezing and heavy with breathing. Dr. gave another round of steroids and antibiotics. This past weekend, I started to feel like a brand new cold came on me. Severe head congestion, terrible cough, the works. I went to urgent care. That Dr. told me it was allergy related. He gave a decadron shot, Z pak, started me on Zyrtec, albuterol inhaler. Today is the first day I have started to feel a little better. deriphyllin injection is usually given in vein but it is given in intramuscularly? ## There are very few cases of medications where this can actually cause problems or make a difference. Those that are normally injected into the vein are normally used that way, so that they act faster. If it was given IM, it just means that it will take longer to work and be processed into the body. If can also cause some more irritation of the injection site, such as a bubble of medication, sore muscles and some minor swelling. I was prescribed decadron to take for 5 days. I am drug screened every week and need to know if this drug will give a positive result on a 10 panel test? ## Dexamethasone (decadron) can be detected in tests if it is something the lab is looking for. But if you were prescribed the medication then you have nothing to worry about. Just present the prescription prior to your drug screening, so they can keep it on file or at least take note of it and expect it to show up. I would only be concerned if this was not your prescription, but as you stated, it is.
