I tried Cardizem right after my stroke. I felt calm. My BP was good. First I was on Digoxin , which made me crazy. Then I was on Metropol . Neither stopped my A fib. Then I took the Cardizem, but had to quit it because of my insurance. I also tried Cartia and Verapamil. I had heart palpitations and didn't fell Google's. I just got Cardizem approved and am taking it for 5 days. My heart rate is high now ( not the first time) and I feel dizzy, depressed, and fatigued. Do you think the dosage is too high? ## Those can be normal side effects, when starting a new medication in this class, according to the FDA. You may also experience nausea, increased urination, and hypotension. Has there been any change? ## Cartizem takes time. And if not working good u need higher dose

Cardizem is the name brand, is that right? Plus there must be MANY other names that are Generic but they are all the same, is that right? 1. Cartia XT 2. Diltizem ER (XR/XT) 3. Dilacor Xr. Plus each manufacturer has a different colored pill for the same thing, is that right? Just got a new prescription for Diltizem ER (XR/XT) and it is a peach and light pink large capsule - once before it was a pill and before that it was an orange and white capsule called Cartia XT. I wish someone could reassure me about what I'm safely taking. ## Hello, Joyce! How are you? Yes, these are all just different names for Diltiazem in an extended release formulation, however, the generic is actually just called Diltiazem, since that is the actual drug name. This medication is a calcium channel blocker t...

Have been using cardizem for 7 years and would like to know if there are any long term side effects...I seem to be having some trouble cognitively and my great aunt who was on it ended up with dementia...was curious if there was any correlation between the brain and the drug. Also the buildup of fluid has been extensive even with watching the salt intake. Also taking daily ranexa, eliquis, lasix, spirivia, albuterol. Thank you for any input. ## Since you're on several medications, it's hard to attribute your symptoms to any particular one with certainty. What types of cognitive issues are you having? As to the fluid build up, is the Lasix not helping with it? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, increased urination ...

I was just wondering the reason for taking cardizem hcl before a meal as opposed to taking it with or after I eat? Just curious... ## Sometimes, taking a medication on an empty stomach can cause it to be more effective. In most cases, that doesn't mean to take it a long time before a meal, but just before you start to eat. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, lowered heart rate, and hypotension. For example, I take Labetalol for blood pressure and the directions for it state that it can be taken with, or without food, but it has a higher efficacy rate if taken on an empty stomach, so you should be consistent, that way your doctor can get accurate readings and adjust your dosage accordingly. There are also case...

original perscription for Cardizem 1st generic given diltiazem er 240mg cap last refilled with diltiaz cd 249/24 is this all the same med? ## Yes, they are all the same medication, 240mgs of Diltiazem in a controlled release formulation that's meant to be taken every 24 hours, they are just manufactured by different companies. Even the abbreviations mean the same thing, though they look different. The ER stands for extended release and the CD is for controlled dosage, but both designate that it is a time released formulation of the medication. Is there anything else I can help with?

Lisinopril 20mg; Chlorthalidone 25mg; Amlodipine Besylate 10; Diltiazem Er (cd) 180mg; Fluoxetine 20mg; Cardizem Cd 180mg; Hydrochlorot 25mg Tab Are some of these drugs really duplicates of others? I had been checked by a heart doctor and he says my heart is good, but because I have HBP my doctor has given me all these to take. ## That is a lot of medications to take, but if your blood pressure was dangerously high, they all might be necessary for awhile. Doses can always be lowered later, once it's under control, or medications stopped as they become unnecessary. I was taking a lot, too, at one point in time, and slowly as my blood pressure was gotten under control, I was able to eliminate most of them, so I am now only taking 2 regular daily medications, with a backup prescription...

I use to take Cardizem cd 180mg. I have lots of trouble with generics. I was switched to Diltiazem hcl sa caps some time ago (mfg TEVA) and have been doing fine. When picking up my scrips today, I was given Cardia XT (mfg Watson Labs) will I notice any difference? Are the fillers similar? ## Hello, Jackie! How are you? There are quite a few differences in the inactive ingredients, so if you're sensitive to them, you may experience some issues, but the only way to find out is to actually try it and see. What types of problems do you usually have with generics? The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. ## Nausea, coughing, feel like coming down with flu, some brain fog. i have been having trouble with water retention every since i was put on steriods which i am no longer on. i am also taking 40 mb. of lasix and 205 mg. of zaroxol. this is to alimanate all the fluid. what still have water retention and the doctor i visited today told me that cardizem would also retain fluid, so she told me to stop taking the carizem. what i won't to know is the information i am receiving correct or not. hoping to nget some insight on the matter. ## Cardizem, a 'calcium channel blocker' is well known for ankle/foot swelling, and it's not difficult to extend that propensity to include more of the legs ...
