Campral Acamprosate

Acamprosate, sold under the brand name Campral, is a medication used along with counselling to treat alcohol use disorder.[1][2] Acamprosate is thought to stabilize chemical signaling in the brain that would otherwise be disrupted by alcohol withdrawal.[3] When used alone, acamprosate is not an effective therapy for alcohol use disorder in most individuals;[4] studies have found that acamprosate works best when used in combinatio...

My spouse recently began taking this when she finally decided to quit drinking alcohol (after many years). She is now quite surly, depressed and tired all the time. Almost unapproachable. Does anyone know if this is a short-term effect of the drug and the withdrawal of alcohol? ## Yes, such issues are actually listed as very common side effects of Campral, she may also experience diarrhea, abdominal pain, increased urination and muscle weakness. However, things should improve after a month, or so, as her body gets used to the medication. If not, then she should consult her doctor, you should also contact them if things get worse. Is there anything else I can help with?

can campral cause sweet dreams effect ## Hi Jane, Based on my research, Campral (acamprosate calcium) does actually list "abnormal dreams" and "hallucinations" as possible psychiatric side effects. Although I personally see no reason to be concerned if the dreams/visions are "sweet" and positive as you described them to be? But if you feel that this ever becomes bothersome or severe I would still encourage you to contact your doctor to let him/her know what's going on. Just out of curiosity, would you be able to describe the types of dreams you're having in any detail? I hope this helps! ## One of my dreams was of eating barbeque with Oprah Winfrey & having a really good time! Another dream was of reuniting a lost dog with its owner. The dreams are ve...

Would like to know anyone's comments relative to the effectiveness of this drug. ## I relapsed severely after 8 years sobriety I started taking it in the hospital and for the last 90 days. It has really helped me. I do not have any cravings and thoughts are fleeting. I have not felt this good in years. The worse side effect for me was gastric distress so I have cut down to 2 doses a day but still seems to be working fine. ## The use of campral has unfortunately not dimished my cravings. The only effect that I noticed was fatigue and prolonged periods of sleep, more than 10 hours a night. ## THIS STUFF WAS A GODSEND. AFTER DRINKING 24/7 FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS I NO LONGER HAVE THE CRAVING AND THE PHYSICAL WITHDRAWELS WERE MINIMUM. CAMPRAL SAVED MY LIFE ## I started taking Campral after too...

My last UA tested false positive for amphetemines. I use nothing that contains amphetemines. I take the following: Advair (250), Benztropine, Levothyroxin, Atorvastatin ,Traxodone, Fluoexetine, Campral. Itested, I tested . I tested "presumed" Positive For Amphetimines. Would any of them cause "presumed positive" on a UA? ## Actually, the Benztropine has been known to cause false positives for Amphetamines, on the less expensive, non-certified tests, this can occur anywhere from 4 to 50% of the time. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I had a prescription bottle that contained my thyroid medicine levothyroxin and was pulled over by a cop who perfomed what I assumed to be a litmus test, and said the swab turned blue and that meant it tested positive for amphetamine...
