I have been taking Calan SR pills to control my heart palpitations for 10 years. I am being forced to move to the genetic Verapamil SR. I have a mitro valve prolapse. I have tried to use this generic before but it does not control by palpitations. What are the best manufacturers for this drug? Is there a different generic I can take that would help me? Thanks to all that answer ## Hello, John! How are you? Verapamil SR is the generic name for the medication, it is not the name of one by any particular manufacturer. Do you remember any other details about the one you tried, before, such as the manufacturer, how it looked, or the markings on it? The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination.

As Searle PFZ has stopped making Calan SR, I have been taking it 23 years for spastic esophagus, so anxious to learn which is the best generic. Any information is much appreciated. Thanks. ## Hello, Jean! How are you? There is no one best generic, it really depends on which one works best for you, since we are all different. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anyone else that's taken this med available to chime in with their experiences on generics? ## Hi Vernon, thanks for your reply. I am "trying out" Glenmark 240 mg at the moment. If it does not work, then Ivax. So far so good. Too many generics out there.

My mother has been on calan sr and wants to switch to the generic. The pharmacist gave her verapamil er. Are er (exended release) and sr (sustained release) equivalent? Shoule she have received verapamil sr? ## Yes, they are the same, though the Verapamil is a generic. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. How is she doing? Is she on any other medications?

I am using calana, a calcium blocker medicine. Now I'm suffering from high blood pressure with a moderate reading of 150/70. Can I use diclofenac potassium? ## You should not take this medication, unless your doctor instructs you to do so, because it can cause elevated blood pressure and fluid retention as side effects, according to the NIH. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and stomach irritation. Has your doctor prescribed this for you?

Does Actavis still make Verapamil / Calan in 40mg tablets? ## Actavis has been purchased by Teva Pharmaceuticals, and they produce a 40mg Verapamil with the WATSON logo over the number 404, which is round, and orange. Ref: Teva This likely means that the specific one that was manufactured by Actavis is no longer available. Generally, when one company purchases another, or merges with another, they stop producing the duplicate products, as it is not cost effective to keep manufacturing all of them. What product does your pharmacy have available?

I had been taking Calan SR 240 for a number of years to control my ophthalmic migraines. My health insurance said that I needed to go with the generic so they put me on Verapomil HCL by Ivax/Teva with no problems. Then the insurance company said that they would not cover the meds by Ivax/Teva and the pharmacy provided Verapomil ER by Mylan. After taking the new meds for 4 days, my blood pressure went from ~135/70 to 189/100. The pills from Ivax are Ivory in color and the ones from Mylan are blue. When I take the Ivax, my blood pressure returns to normal and skyrockets with Mylan. Since both pills are supposed to be identical, can anyone think of a reason why they so drastically different? My doctor has put me on Lisinopril to go along with the Mylan meds to control my BP. This sounds lu...

Ok I need to know what a blue oval football looking pill is. It says M on one side and 312 on the other. It has a line between the M and the 312. Could it be a Lortab? ## Hopefully you got your answer by now but it is NOT hydrocodone or Lortab. It is generic verampil (name brand Calan, NDC 0378-1180). It is 180mg extended release tablet that is a calcium channel blocker. It is used to lower high blood pressure. ## No, that's not a lortab.... ## I have been taking Lortab for about a year now to help control severe fibromyalgia and severe TMJ. I have had 2 surgeries and am awaiting another, but I am very concerned. Aside from the risk of dependance, withdrawl and liver damage from Acetaminaphen, what other damage could I be doing to my body. Currently my doctor has prescribed Lortab 7...

Is this immediate release or extended / sustained release? I have migraines and this was prescribed as "3 tablets by mouth at bedtime." But if it is immediate release do I really want to be taking all 360 mg at once? Shouldn't I take 1 pill 3 x per day instead? ## Have you asked your doctor, or pharmacist about this? The tablet you asked about is 120mg regular release tablet, which means it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to start working. That is a little higher than the normal preventative migraine dose, which is usually 240mgs at bedtime. ## I too had migraines. I started on Calan SR 120mg (there were no generics ) about 16 years ago. After a year the migraines came back so my doctor increased the dosage to 240 mg. After three years, my insurance company decided that they wo...
