Butalbital is a barbiturate with an intermediate duration of action. Butalbital is often combined with other medications, such as paracetamol (acetaminophen) or aspirin, for the treatment of pain and headache. The various formulations combined with codeine are FDA-approved for the treatment of tension headaches. I was previously taking Butalbital Compund 50-325-40 twice a day for about 4 years for tension headaches. My doctor now has started me on Nortriptyline and no more Butalbital. Anyone else with tension headaches who had to make this switch and did Nortriptyline really help? Vince P ## Hello, Vince! How are you? Yes, everyone is having to make a switch. As to whether or not Nortriptyline will work, the only way to find out is to try it and see. These medications do help some people that suffer migraines and tension headaches, so you may experience good results with it. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Does anyone know why they have discontinued the Butalbital compound ( Fiorinal) tablets? I have taken this...

Butalbital-ASP-caffeine capwat green and yellow capsule with writing on it (green side says watson , yellow side says 3219) I have been taking one that says Butalbital Compound Tablet WSW. What is the difference? ## From what you've listed and from my own searching, it seems that there is one difference and that is that the first one you listed contains Aspirin, while the compound tablet that you listed next contains Acetaminophen. Otherwise, they both contain Butalbital and Caffeine and are used to treat migraines and tension headaches. Learn more Aspirin details here. Learn more Acetaminophen details here. Learn more Butalbital details here. Learn more Caffeine details here. Some people may be allergic to one of them, so they can't take it, or they may respond better to Aspiri...

Is there a prescription formulation of butalbital and caffeine WITHOUT the acetaminophen other than Fioinal? ## Hello, John! How are you? No, I'm sorry, but there isn't. The only ones available contain either Acetaminophen or Aspirin. If you require it without either one, if you have a compounding pharmacy nearby, your doctor may be able to prescribe it and have them create it for you. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness and stomach irritation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Blue and white capsule imprint watson on one side 3220 on the other supposed to be 30 mg hydrocodone ## Hello, Melissa! How are you? There is no manufactured 30mg Hydrocodone available in the U.S., it is only available combined with Acetaminophen and the tablets that are available only have a maximum of 10mgs of the Hydrocodone. Other doses are available by a compounding pharmacy, if a doctor specially orders them, but they would not have an imprint such as this on the capsules. That said, the white and blue capsule with this marking contains 325mgs of Acetaminophen, 50mgs of Butalbital, 40mgs of Caffeine and 30mgs of Codeine, it is most commonly used to treat migraines and tension headaches. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there an...

How are you? Yes, that is correct, medications that contain Butalbital are being discontinued, at this time. Whether or not this may change at a later date, I don't know. Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? They may be able to write you a special prescription that you can have done at a compounding pharmacy, so you may want to ask them about it. ## I currently take Fioricet which contains bul...
