Brompheniramine, sold under the brand name Dimetapp among others, is a first-generation antihistamine drug of the propylamine (alkylamine) class.[2] It is indicated for the treatment of the symptoms of the common cold and allergic rhinitis, such as runny nose, itchy eyes, watery eyes, and sneezing. Like the other first-generation drugs of its class, it is considered a sedating antihistamine.[2] It was patented in 1948 and came into medical use in 1955.[...

Is It Okay To Take Bromfed Dm And Tylenol Together ## Hi Julia, Based on my research there are no drug interactions found between the active ingredients in Bromfed and Tylenol. I feel horribly sick w/cold symptoms & VERY congested I was given this by a friend whom had said she was given the syrup fir VERY similar symptoms. I just don't want to throw myself into withdrawal or have any awful side effects... Plz help & thank you for taking time to help me out... ## If you're only taking these meds a couple of times I wouldn't think that you'd experience any withdrawal symptoms. However there's no guarantee that you won't experience side effects from them, because these drugs can and do effect everyone differently. I would just recommend reading up on each of these drugs so you can have an idea of what to expect. Hello, I was just curious if I could still take the bromfed if it says to discard by 09/13/17? ## I was just trying to see can I take this medication Bromfed dm syp if use by 5/18/17 and this is August 20th ## @Bella, Today's date is Wednesday, September 6th, 2017. So based on the contents of your post, you should still be in the clear to take it for another week. @Jplove, Since it has been several months past the "use by" date, I think it's probably best to adhere to the label's instructions. And while I understand that many medications are generally regarded as safe to take well after the expiration date, I also feel that it's important to consume the freshest batches of whatever it is you're taking in order to maximize efficacy and to ensure that none of t...

Does this medication help relieve fluid in ears? Can it be used nightly for 1-2 weeks to help eliminate fluid in the ears of a 55 lb, 5-1/2 yr old? ## The active ingredients listed (Brompheniramine and Pseudoephedrine) are found in a number of medications. One brand is Bromfed-DM syrup (NDC 54868-6377) which also contains Dextromethorphan. It's a combination cough suppressant, antihistamine, and decongestant for treating symptoms of the common cold, flu, & allergies. In reading the product label (PDF) for Children's Dimetapp Cold & Allergy (which contains Phenylephrine instead of Pseudoephedrine), it says that it is not indicated for children under 6 years of age. It sounds like your son is pretty close to the minimum age. What I'd recommend is getting it cleared by ...

I find after I take Bromfed DM I start coughing more. When I don't take any after 6pm I sleep fine with no coughing. I have not been taking the 5mg 4 times a day. ## Hello, Kathy! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. That's unusual, since the Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant. However, since you're laying down, when it happens, it may be due to the Pseudoephedrine in it loosening the nasal congestion, which may be draining down your throat causing the coughing. Have you consulted your doctor? You may be able to change the time you take it, or just go to 3 times a day. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. ## Thank you so much for getting back to me. I took your advice and ...

Can an individual have a positive serum alcohol when taking Bromfed DM? ## Hello, Linda! How are you? Yes, they can. Bromfed DM is actually listed as containing 0.95% alcohol, as reported by the FDA. That may not seem like a lot, but if someone is taking it regularly, or took it close to the time their serum alcohol was tested, it could result in a positive result. Is there anything else I can help with?

My son is 2 years and six months. His Dr prescribed him Bromphenir pseudoephed today and my husband accidentally gave him 3 times the indicated dosage. Is this an emergency? What should we do? Thanks! ## It is very important that you read the leaflet included with the prescription. Watch for signs of overdose or side effects. Call the pharmacy and explain what happened. If they are closed then call the pediatrician's office - they almost all have an after hours answering service for situations like this. The doctor or nurse should be able to tell you what to watch for. There's also poison control at 800-222-1222. This is from DailyMed's listing on Bromfed DM (same ingredients as what your son was prescribed along with Dextromethorphan): "Central nervous system effects fr...
