What can I use over the counter drug when I run out of my clotrimazole betamethasone dipropionate cream ## What are you using it for? In the U.S. both Clotrimazole and Betamethasone can only be obtained by prescription, so there are no over the counter equivalents. Have you consulted your doctor? ## Lotrimin isvery close. what is this used for ## i would like to know what this ointment is used for ## 12 years ago, at a time of great stress in my life I had terrible rash in feet/lower legs which 4 (!) dermatologists looked at, prescribed creams for, each made it worse than before. In desperation I went to NYU dermatology medical center which first told me to throw all creams & lotions prescribed and then conducted contact/other allergy tests which were all negative. Actually, since this cream contains a steroid, it can cause acne as a side effect, so it isn't likely to help, according to the NIH. Acne is always curable, so to speak, depending on the underlying cause. If you deal with whatever is causing it, the acne will go away. Are you on any medications? I have a groin rash and inch ## If you're looking for an OTC alternative, it most likely wont be quite as strong or effective as this prescription cream. I know over-the-counter Clotrimazole is 1%, but prescription Lotrisone (Clotrimazole + Betamethasone) cream also contains 1% of Clotrimazole + 0.05% Betamethasone.
