This is primarily prescriped to treat migraines or cluster headaches, as well as some of the symptoms associated with menopause, such as hot flashes and dizzy spells. ## Walgreens will no longer sell this drug, and hinted at a problem with it's use. I believe this drug was the old alternative to HRT. I have been taking it for 4 years and it works. However, I have been alarmed by pharmaceutical industry friends pointing out that it contains a narcotic. I have recently cut back to 1/2 pill per day BUT have been gaining weight despite following fairly strictly the Weight Watchers program. Are any of the ingredients (belladonna, ergot or phenobarb) known for affecting metabolism? If so, perhaps mine has been slowed recentlyby my reduction of the does. As a gynecologist, I used to prescribe Bellergal S-tabs for vasomotor symptoms of menopause with varying success. Over the years (35+ in practice) I just got out of the habit, and I forgot why. Now I'd like to add it back into my black bag as an alternative therapeutic choice and lo and behold, it seems to be off the market!
