I have been on 50 mg Losartan for 6 months and just don't feel that great. I got my BP taken at the doctor today and it was 150/64. I asked about changing to Atacand ,and she put me on 16 mg, starting tomorrow. I'm to go back to get my BP taken in 2 weeks. Is 16 mg a good dosage to start with? Will Atacand be better than Losartan? Should I worry about side effects, and if so, what is most common? I got the impression the doctor was indulging me..she certainly didn't agree the Losartan could be causing my foot and ankle pains. ## Hello, CJ! How are you? Oh yes, it certainly could have been causing those pains. Some people do experience that with some of these cardiac medications. Atacand contains the active ingredient Candesartan, so it is also an ARB. Generally, 8mgs of it e...

What are the serious side affects of Atacand that one should be aware of? I have swelling and pain in my feet and back pain, when should I be really concerned? Is this med not recalled? ## It has been known to cause these issues as side effects, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, coughing, and rash, and you should consult your doctor because the pain, and edema may mean that it is not the right medication for you, and you may need to try something else. Ref: Medscape Atacand There was a specific manufacturer's recall, and if that applies to yours, then your pharmacy should inform you, and replace it with the product from an alternative manufacturer. Are you on any other medications? ## Thank u. I do believe that the pharmacist did say that the recall was for the generic brand. ...

My new High blood pressure med is Atacand 8 mg.. So no wean off just stopped cold turkey and replaced with the Atacand. Today is day one my blood pressure is within the normal but my heartbeats are up about 15 bpm. It's like my adrenals are working again. Feel great already going to meditate daily and try to stay calm to keep the heartbeats down. Two doctors have told me to take atacand 8mg, lisinopril 5mg, and metroprol succ. 25mg for my slightly high blood pressure. Do they do the same thing is this overkill? sjr ## I honestly believe that taking those 3 different medications for 1 condition is a 'prescription overkill' as I like to call it. There are many natural alternatives for Blood Pressure control that in my opinion can be just as effective as prescription medication, with little to no side effects. I personally had high blood pressure, but was able to control it by controlling my eating habits and exercising. What works for me may not work for everyone, but my initial advice is to look into natural ways such as: Low sodium foods to help reduce inflammation; supplementation of garlic, fish oils, as well as calciu...

I used to have good blood pressure relief with Atacand HCT 32 strength . The doctors now seem to prefer lisinopril. I thought they were very similar and am thinking of asking to switch back. Has Atacand fallen out of favor for some reason? ## No, it hasn't fallen out of favor, per se, but doctors do tend to prefer to prescribe the medications they are most familiar with. I've been in the ER before and had a doctor give me an attitude questioning the medications I am on, because one is Atacand and it's just not the first choice to be used, anymore. However, I refused to let them make changes or carry on about it, figuring that my cardio doc knows best and she really worked closely with me for about a year, until we found the right medications for me that worked, without makin...

I've been on Benicar 20mg. for 1 mo. and just had it upped to 40 mg. B/P is coming down; but I have daily sinus-type headaches and serious shoulder/neck muscle pain. Is this normal? ## Yes, those are normal side effects for most blood pressure medications. I've been experiencing something similar and I just started Atacand a few days ago, it is in the same class of medications. These types of side effects usually wear off once your body adjusts to the medication, but you may experience them, again, whenever you are put on a higher dosage. From 20mgs to 40mgs is a pretty high jumps, so it is not surprising that you are getting some side effects. These medications are usually titrated up very slowly. For instance, I am starting at 4mgs, twice a day, for a week, then I got to 8mgs ...

found out Avalide has been discontined. So what is the replacement medication. Avalide 150 12.5 has worked for me for years. ## Avalide contained the active ingredients Irbesartan an ARB and Hydrochlorothiazide a diuretic. There are several others on the market in this same medication class that may also work for you. One of them is Atacand HCT, which contains Candesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. Your doctor can also prescribe them both separately. The name brand for the Irbesartan would be Avapro and they Hydrochlorothiazide is also available by itself. What has your doctor recommended? ## My doctor recommended Benicar HCT 20mg/12.5mg tablets ## why was avalide 150-12.5 discontinued? ## been taking avalide for years and wondering why this has been removed? does anybody know? ## What dr...

I am on Atenolol and losartan pot 50mg. Well, I am so itchy. My feet itch and my knees have red splotches on them. I was on Lisonopril and it made my liver enzymes so high. I have never had a heart attack, I"m 55 years old and have high blood pressure. What drug can you recommend? thanks. ## Hello, Maria! How are you? I'd suggest asking your doctor about trying Atacand/Candesartan, it is listed by the FDA as an ARB, just like Losartan, but it's known to cause fewer side effects. Its typical ones are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and hypotension. Have you had the itching and splotches checked out by your doctor? That could be due to an allergy, or perhaps just a circulatory issue, too.

After taking Losartan 25 my hair started falling out. Is this a side effect and what could I do about it? I'm losing quite a bit. Thanks. ## Hello, Chickie! How are you? Yes, that can be a side effect of this medication and, unfortunately, it tends to continue as long as you are taking it. Thus, the only thing you can really do is speak to your doctor about trying a different medication. I had better results with Atacand, which is a related med, it just didn't cause me as many side effects. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have taken losartan for approx. three years. I noticed recently my hair is thinning and is not growing. If I discontinue losartan will my hair return to normal growth? My thyroid test was normal. ## Good evening. Found a peach capsual tablet with C on the one side and S | 1 on the other side what is this ..... Crying out for help right now ## Based on the description provided, the closest match I could locate is an oblong-shaped peach pill marked with an "A" on one side of a score line and "CS" on the other. The opposite side is blank with an additional score line as well. This particular pill is identified as Atacand HCT (candesartan 16 mg + hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg); used in the treatment of hypertension. Do you happen to have any additional information on where you found this tablet or who it was purchased from? This information could also provide more clues as to what type of drug it might be. I'm hoping that the info above can at least help to narrow down your search....

I have been taking 50 mg of Lyrica 3 xs a day for about 8 years. I understand there is finally a generic Pregabalin available. Has anyone taken the generic? I was getting my Lyrica for free through Pfizer but now that there is a generic Pfizer will no longer give me Lyrica and I will have to pay for it. ## That is normal, once the generic is available, a manufacturer will usually end their assistance program for any given medication. I was on Atacand for several years, and then had to switch, once a generic became available, and the program ended, because at that time, I was uninsured, and still couldn't afford the generic price, which was over $100 a month. The generic for Lyrica, which as you mentioned is Pregabalin, is as effective as the name brand, and has helped many people. T...
