I understand that Arcoxia is prescribed for anti-inflammation after my surgery. I have 2 weeks supply. I suspect that it's the cause of my weight gain of 3kg in 1 week! Is this temporary or will I be stuck with the excess weight? ## This medication contains the active ingredient Etoricoxib, it is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, stomach irritation, and increased risk of bleeding. It may also cause fluid retention, so you should have any dramatic weight gain checked out by your doctor, to be safe. Fluid retention may lead to other dangers, such as congestive heart failure. Currently on 30mg daily and it seems to be difficult to get now in that dosage. Doctor tried me on Naproxene 330mg x 3 times daily and the effect was the equivalent of having drain cleaner through my stomach even though I take a stomach liner. I have osteoarthritis. I have been quite happy with the Arcoxia for many years. ## I am not sure what all might be available where you live. What do you take as a stomach liner? Most of these nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories can cause stomach irritation as side effects, according to NIH reports. Bus asthmatic must be careful with it. About arcoxia and ibuprofen. Right now I'm taking arcoxia for my arthritis (witch says on the flyer that can also be bad for asthma when having a crisis because it can increase the mucous of the lungs). I am a US citizen & am residing permanently in S. Central Ecuador. We love this place, but there are so many adjustments to make & in so many different areas! I have a chronic illness & must take some medications. I must do lots of internet searching on this topic as my Spanish is not yet adequate though I only see an MD with a translator.....And please correct me if I'm wrong, but most of the small pharmcies seem to be run & owned by people without medical education so I do not feel comfortable asking them.....My husband was prescribed Arcoxia for sore muscles after a minor fall. His only health problem is asthma, & we get confused by which anti-inflammatory drugs are okay with asthma. Please clarify, if you know. Also, compare Ibuprofan with Arcoxia. Thank You
