The drug was developed by Sucampo Pharmaceuticals and approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2006.[1][2][3...

very tiny round orangy color pill ## The Amitiza pills that are currently on the market are both gel caps, one is orange (24mcgs) and the other is pink (8mcgs). Both have the marking SPI on them. There is no generic available. Amitiza is used to increase the amount of fluid in your intestines to make it easier to pass stool, so it's useful in treating chronic constipation. Side effects may include nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea and bloating. Are there any questions or comments?

I have constipation do amitiza have sulfur in it. ## Hello, Penny! How are you? No, are you allergic to sulfa drugs? Amitiza contains the active ingredient Lubiprostone. The FDA lists it as being a stool softener. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, diarrhea, headache, abdominal distention and fecal incontinence.

I have Fibro with chronic IBS-C...my doctor gave me rx for Amitiza, but my insurance does not want to cover it for me..I was on the Zelnorm for many years which worked SO well for me,but of course it was pulled from the market by FDA. Can anyone give me some guidance in maybe a company program that will help cover the costs or if you have Anthem Rx Part D should I just see if they will allow a formulary exception? Also I need to know if anyone has had good results with this for their constipation problems? I just had gallbladder removal suregery about a month ago and everyone I spoke with told me I would be having problems with chronic diarrea, but unfortunately my IBS-C seems to have worsened. I truly need HELP..am 44 and miserable enough with all my chronic pain issues (not just Fibro) ...

I was on Amitiza 24 mcg twice a day and Miralax was switched to Linzess 3 weeks ago. I am having so many issues, feeling lightheaded a couple hours after taking it in the morning and very bloated and have not had a normal BM. A few days without anything and then diarrhea. I think I am going to switch to before dinner and take Miralax before bed. What is the opinion? ## This medication should be taken in the morning, at least half an hour, before ingesting anything else. The Side effects that you've experienced are listed as being normal ones, according to the FDA, you may also experience nausea, and stomach pain. It is not as effective, if taken later in the day, after you've already eaten throughout the day, so it is best to follow the manufacturers instructions. Is there anyth...

Gabapentin 300 mg.cap, Protonix 40 mg.Tab., Amitiza 24 MCG cap, Zegerid 40-1100 Cap, MRI with Contrast ## Gabapentin aka neurontin controls seizures, assists with sleep. I take 800 each night with 12.5 zolpidem which is time released. Ive never slept so well. ## Of the medications you listed, Gabapentin, Protonix, and the contrast medium have all been known to have detrimental effects on the kidney, though such occurrences are very rare. How severe is it, and what treatment options has your doctor suggested? Do you have high blood pressure, or a cardiac condition?

I have Gastroparesis, pelvic floor dysnersia, and chronic ideopathic constipation. I had been taking 4 capfuls of miralax daily (which stopped working), amitiza (never worked) and now Linzess. The very first day it caused severe pain and I had pretty severe diarrhea. The next few days & nights I had severe abdominal pain, but now just cramping and lots of bloating. I have not had ANY movements at all since the diarhea on day 1. Is this normal? ## I hope your seeing a gastroenterologist and if so CALL the doctor. ## Hi GPcrusader, Sorry to hear about your situation. From what I've read on other related threads, the time it takes for Linzess to work actually varies greatly for each and every individual. However, I do agree with Amber in that it might be a good idea to touch base w...

I am unable to move my bowels from taking Exalgo and other opiods that I have taken for my chronic pain. I have tried taking drugs like Movantik and Amitiza that are supposed to relieve opiod constipation but they have not worked for me. Neither has more fiber, Colace, prunes, miralax etc. Anybody have any amazing remedy??? ## Very sorry about the problem you are having. I've been there, when taking opiates, but increased fiber intake helped me. Have you tried enemas, or suppositories? There are some available via prescription, and some over the counter products, since they are inserted anally, they work directly on the hardened stool. The FDA lists the typical side effects as including irritation, cramping, and diarrhea. Beyond that, you may need to go to the ER for treatment of th...

I have been told by my Dr that I have stasis dermetitis. I have been put on 1500 mg of sodium per day. I have been on this diet for approximately 3 months and am still struggling with water retention. I also take a lot of meds for pain along with amitiza for constipation, so would like to know if any of the meds I am on contain sodium. I truly count and weight all my food so I do not go over. My heart test came back good and I do not have congestive heart problems. Thank you for any information you can give in this matter. ## Hello, Karen! How are you? I am very sorry about the problem that you're having. I am a CHF patient and already explored this topic with my doctor and additional research on my own, so I can tell you that while some medications contain a trace of sodium, that i...

What type of laxitive can i take with Opana er 10 mg ## Hello, From what I can gather, there shouldn't be any limitations regarding what laxatives you can use with this medication. However, I'm not a medical doctor so that information is only based on my research. A couple laxative medications I've found information on are: Amitiza- this medication softens the stool by increasing its water content, so the stool can pass easily. This medication is taken twice daily with food. Some reported side effects of Amitiza include headache, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting. Cephula, Chronulac, Constulose, Duphalac, Enulose, (lactulose)- Lactulose, a prescription laxative with many brand names, draws water into the bowel to soften and loosen the stool. Side effects include...

The medication is a blue delayed release capsule. It has markings on it that appear to be an AP intertwined. Anyone have any other rx's that really work! ## my eleven year old daughter has been on dexilant for a year now.medicaid stopped covering it so they put her on nexium and amitiza .really nervous with what i am reading with side effects .amitiza keeps stating for women 18 years and over nexium states diarrea and sleepiness .should i insist o...

After taking Amitiza for a month, is it really going to work for constipation or should I stop taking it? ## I use this med. I have had it for about 3-4 years. I take it only if I need to.

I've been on Butalb-caff-acetaminophen-codeine for four years. I take them maybe twice or three times a month, depends. Then I take diazepam 10mg, then norco 10-325. I try not to take 3 a day as I don't want to get dependent on them. Then I take amitiza 24 mcg, and Xanax 0.5mg. I try not to take them, maybe one a day. I don't want to get hooked on them either. And lastly, I take phentermine once in the morning. What will this show up as on a drug test? Lately I've been sick throwing up because of the headaches and I sweat bad if I'm outside in the heat trying to do small things. Will these come out from the sweat and can I re-take them after I do get sick and throw up?
