I need to know if it is used as a prophylactic to prevent pulmonary hypertension ## Adalat-R contains the active ingredient Nifedipine, which is a calcium channel blocker, used to treat Angina and various forms of hypertension. If someone has been diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension, it can be a very dangerous condition that can lead to heart failure, so it is normal for someone to be given a medication to try to prevent such complications from occurring. However, if someone hasn't been diagnosed with it and has no signs of any form of hypertension, then there really is not point to taking one of these medications. Are there any other questions? ## Thank you for the reply.

Hello, i've just started taking Adalat GITS 20mg for my high blood pressure. I still feel dizzy at times and my blood pressure is 130/90 still (it was extremely high last week and was also dizzy). How long will it take for this medication to work and regulate my blood pressure? I am now much stricter with my diet as well. ## How long have you been taking it? It may take 4 to 5 weeks for it to reach its full level of efficacy in your body to see how well it will work for you. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. ## Thanks for replying. I've been taking it for about 10 days now and struggling with the side effect, mostly the lightheadedness/headache. I've been bumped up to 30mg as my bp ...

I have been taking adalat for 21 years now. In the last 3 years I have lived a healthier lifestyle. My BP has been great. So my doctor said I could ween myself off of medicine. What type of withdrawal symptoms can I expect to have? ## Hello, Jan! How are you doing? The FDA lists the typical ones as possibly including nausea, headache, elevated heart rate and elevated blood pressure. That's why you need to be very careful to wean off slowly, because it will help prevent your heart rate and blood pressure from hitting dangerous levels. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi really struggling with the side effects after taking for a couple of weeks. They include headache, nausea, flushing, pounding heart and pulse of 80 when it,s normally 60. Not sure whether to stop and change to something else of persevere ## Hello, Jakey! How are you feeling? Has there been any improvement, yet? Those can be normal side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience dizziness, increased urination and hypotension. It usually takes about 4 to 5 weeks for your body to adjust and for the side effects to go away. If they persist after that, you may need to switch medications. Is this medication going off the market? The girl at HEB pharmacy said "they" (the pharmaceutical co.?) were going to quit making it. ## Why has Adalat 60 mg. been discontinued in Canada? What are the medical community recommending in replacement? ## Hello Sharon, According to the FDA only certain dosages of the Adalat CC extended release is going to be discontinued as of now. Their list shows that the 10mg XR version of the pill is being discontinued but all the others are currently listed as currently being produced. I can't promise they won't close down the other XR dosages but for the moment only the 10mg has been affected. I hope this helps. Have a wonderful day.

I have been taking 10mg twice daily for 25 years. My new G.P. has now raised it to 30 mg.once daily after only two high b.p readings. I started with 30 yesterday morning and have felt unwell all day. Also awful headache that I cannot get rid of. I am concerned how long is this going to continue as I have several other health problems. Thanking you. ## Hello, Jane! How are you? All medications carry the risk of causing side effects and it would be normal to experience them again, when the dosage is raised. The FDA lists the ones you've mentioned as being typical for this medication, which contains Nifedipine. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, increased urination and hypotension. It may take 4 to 5 weeks, for the side effects to taper off and go away. If they do not, then you...

I accidentally took my medication of 60 mg of adalat retard twice today. What are the consequences? ## Hello, Peter! How are you? Did you experience any adverse effects? Your blood pressure and heart rate could go lower than usual, which may result in your experiencing more dizziness, nausea and drowsiness than normal. If they get severe, you should seek medical attention.

I have taken Procardia XL GITS pill for 21 years. When I went on Medicare, they told me they didn't make them anymore. I am on a generic Adalat 60 mg now and have been very aware of my heartbeat ever since November 2012. I tried calling Pfizer and Mylan. They gave me no help. Does anyone know if these pills are still on the market? The pill I was taking is a round pill, medicine embedded in plastic shell with a laser-drilled hole in the center. Please help me if anyone knows where I can get them. ## Based on my research, there haven't been any verifiable claims or FDA announcements regarding the discontinuation of Procardia. So I do wonder if what they told you was even true. Often times Medicare only accepts/covers certain brands or generics, and it may just be that they don...

I'm trying to see if my prescription has been filled correctly. This pill is white, round, the number 30 and N E on one side, the letter M on the other. This was refilled for a prescription I've been taking for years called NIFEdipine (also known as Adalat) only I have never had this pill, it's normally a round pinkish pill. ## Ashlyee, it is normal for your pharmacy to switch the tablets they provide you with, depending on what manufacturer was offering the cheapest prices at the time they had to restock their supply. This is how they keep the generic prices as low as possible for customers without insurance. That said, yes, the tablet you received does contain 30mgs of Nifedipine, so you have received the correct medication. Is there anything else I can help you with? ## I...
