I got my alprazolam refill. One was a bar and the others are round white tablets with a score line on one side. Apparently these are 4 mg but I've never seen them round before. Could these be xanax and what could be in them? On the packaging it says "xanax with added sleep enhancers". ## What? been on xanax for 9 years for grave's disease. All of a sudden my doctor refuses to write this drug anymore. So I am trying to get off them and yet after 1 month it has a hold on me and super high pulse rates that range from 105-91-then after1 pill it goes to normal 72. I take 4 mgs of xanax and 4mgs of xanax xr. The xr never worked well for me so the dr added the reg xanax for breakthru. how do I wean. I've been on them for 1and1/2 yrs. I don't like the side effects but how do you wean when xr can't be broken.I need to get off them ## I also had to gradually increase my dosage of Xanax to maintain the needed effectiveness. My Dr. started me on Klonopin, at my request, and I gradually got off Xanax in a couple of weeks. I am very satisfied with Klonopin & have not had to increase my dosage in 3 years. Hey I live in broward county south fl. City of Davie to be precuse. I currently have a Dr who prescribes me subutex and am on a xanax "wean" which is not working.. Every doctor I've met assumes any medical issue I have is related to psych meds.1-1.5 years ago I started slipping when going up the stairs, almost falling down when I turn around, brushing against stuff as I walk by them, but I'm not light headed, dizzy, or anything like that. I tke 4 mg XR a day, every other week drop it down to 3mg for a day so I don't get hooked. My libido is lost, but I also have "low vision." I am currently taking 2mg of Xanax twice day, If I switched over to the extended release, woul I stay at the same dose? ## If you switched to the controlled release, you'd still have to take more than one tablet in a day, to hit your 4mgs. The maximum dosage available in the controlled release tablet is 3mgs. Your doctor may want you to try that and see if it is enough to get you through the day, but ultimately, that is a decision you will have to discuss with them. I am taking 4mgs of Dilaudid, 2mg Xanax, 200mg Gabapentin, 75mg Doxepin and Tylenol daily. Is it safe? ## Generally most pain management doctors will not prescribe Xanax along with Dilaudid or any pain killer. They say it makes your heart slow down and they fear you may go to sleep and not wake up. I'm hoping that you are going to one doctor for all of your meds or have told the doctor(s) that are prescribing the Dilaudid and Xanax that you are taking both meds. Please be careful and don't take any extra of either med. ## Have they all been prescribed for you? Generally, the NIH warns that taking them together may cause more severe side effects than usual. I have PTSD and severe anxiety, but I'm sick of wasting my money when they don't take me serious and don't write me anything. Klonopin, Valium, etc all really hurt my stomach. I need at least 4mg's of Xanax with my PTSD script daily. I take xanax at night cuz that's when my mind goes nuts!!! Major flashbacks. If I stop taking .5mg of xanax after only2 months wwhat's the risk of a possible seizure ## Slight ## It would ultimately be best to talk with your doctor about tapering first. But from what I've been reading, most people shouldn't have any severe problems after stopping xanax at that low of a dose. The National Anxiety Foundation states that cold turkey-ing 4mgs or more is notably what can cause moderate to severe withdrawal symptoms and/or convulsions in some cases. So in my honest opinion the risk for you is very slim.
