My 5 year old weighing at 49. something at the doctor with shoes on was prescribed amoxicillin 400mg/5ml was told to give him 12.5 ml twice a day for 10 days. this sounds like a lot, just wondering is this the usual dosage for a 5 year old his size? ## Hello, Nece! How is your son? Yes, that is a normal dosage for a child his age and weight. For young children, it is dosed according to their weight and the severity of the infection being treated. The FDA lists this medication as being an antibiotic and lists the most common side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?
