Help - new medication (sintrom), diabetes and high blood pressure

Hi. My husband has just got home from a 7 day stay in the hospital, where he was diagnosed as having a large blood clot in his shoulder and a smaller one behind his knee. He is an insulin dependant diabetic, VERY overweight (at the moment at least. That one, we are going to work on asap). Tests yesterday revealed the clots have responded very well. He has been placed on an initial dosage of 4mg of sintrom daily, and has been given sintrom in the hospital. The doctors were obviously aware of the insulin (and metformin) medications, also that he has meds for high blood pressure. Reading the advisory with the sintrom, I couldn't find any counter indications to his medication regime. Having checked the internet advice I am now very concerned that he's going to have adverse reactions...

sintrom 4 mg

how do you keep sintrom blood level between 2.0 and 3.0, as it seems to sometimes go lower ## Sintrom is an anticoagulant that contains the active ingredient Acenocoumarol. There is no hard and fast way to keep the blood level constant for these medications. That is why your doctor has o do a blood test regularly to check and see if your dosage needs to be adjusted. Certain things you eat may also be affecting it, such as a lot of dark leafy green vegetables that contain Vitamin K. Are there any other comments or questions? ## Can you loose your hair by using Sintrom 4 mg ## Yes I had a Angiagram early this year and a stint fitter August since then my calf are swollen twice the size I have burning sensation stabbing pain dizzle spells but pain all day in my legs also from angle to knee ...

Inr levels and drinking alcohol

Hi. I suffered pulmonary embolism last August and am lucky to be here today. Both lungs were affected but I'm way ahead in my recovery. I'm taking 3mg of sintrom per day and I'm wondering why my inr is only 1.8? I'm eating the correct foods and not drinking alcohol, which by the way I was also wondering if I could have a drink as it's very boring out with friends drinking water all the time? ## It would be best not to imbibe, since the NIH reports that alcohol may cause additional blood thinning as a side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, and headache. As to your INR, how much exercise do you get each day? What types of foods do you eat? Are you on any other medications, or vitamins? ## Hi Vermon Many thanks for reply I cycle 5klms a day walk another 5 as I live ...

Sintrom +other medicaitions?

I have been taking Sintrom (10 yrs) as I have 12 stents around my heart. I still have angina. I recently went to A&E after a fall, and the duty doctor looked at my medications Plavix/Aspirin/Sintrom, and seemed horrified that I take ALL of these. My blood is so thin, that if I even scratch my arm casually, it takes up to an hour to stop, my sheets are a mess each morning. Is the above combination TOO MUCH thinning? I darent even eat a single piece of green veg!!! ## Hi Olivo. Aspirin and Sintrom are not a very good combination as i heard the doctor saying. You should research possible drug interactions between these two pills. Best regards.

Sintrom 1 mg tablet twice a day

i had a 1 blood clot on each lung. Will I be on sintrom for the rest of my life ? ## Some people do need to take it for life, but not all, it depends on the severity of your condition, and whether or not you develop anymore clots. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. Are you on any other medications?

I Have Been Taking Sintrom For Several Years and have to Control Test Every Month Am Going Goa 5 Months In November Will It Be Possi

I have been taking Sintrom for several years now and have to go for a control test every month. In November I am going to Goa for 5 months. Will I be able to get this control test there? If so, where do I go? I shall be staying in the Cavelossim / Mobor area of South Goa ## Hi jack, Because I am based in the US, I am unaware of the availability of Sintrom control tests in other countries. However the best advice I can offer at this moment would be to contact your current doctor (or whom ever administers the control test for you now) and see if they can refer you to another location in or around where you'll be staying. I can look up various hospitals and organizations in India and provide their contact details, but it will have little use if one is unfamiliar with their surrounding ...

Blood Thinners - Sintrom dose

Another day, another blood test! Father, 82, had an ICD fitted Oct '15 after 6 week check he was started on blood thinner Sintrom Dec '15. Initial dose of 14g reduced to 10g, then 9g. INR today was 5.9 & re-test was 6.3! After discussion with hospital he has now been prescribed1g/day for 14 days then another good test. How long does it usually take to settle on a dose that keeps the INR stable between 2.0 & 3.0. ## Should read Sintron. Dark U/A prompted a clinic visit last Sunday. Nurse said this was common. Strip test showed no probs. INR was 6+ then 5+ & finally 2.9 which got me thinking as to the accuracy of the testers (see other discussion). The lower INR is the first time it's been between the goal of 2 & 3 which is great & perhaps shows the decreas...
