Orap Overview

Pimozide (sold under the brand name Orap) is an antipsychotic drug of the diphenylbutylpiperidine class. It was discovered at Janssen Pharmaceutica in 1963. It has a high potency compared to chlorpromazine (ratio 50-70:1). On a weight basis it is even more potent than haloperidol. It also has special neurologic indications for Tourette syndrome and resistant tics. My 15 year old son will be starting Orap for his severe breathing tics for the first time. I am terrified of this drug but we are out of options. Can anyone tell me about their experiences with this drug. ## I haven't used it, but the reason I'm here is to provide you with information about it. I wouldn't say that it's necessary to be terrified of it, it has its risks, but so does any other medication on the market, even over the counter products.
