Indapamide Overview

Indapamide is a thiazide-like diuretic[1] drug marketed by Servier, generally used in the treatment of hypertension, as well as decompensated heart failure. Combination preparations with perindopril (an ACE inhibitor antihypertensive) are also available. The thiazide-like diuretics (indapamide and chlortalidone) are more effective than the thiazide-type diuretics (including hydrochlorothiazide) for reducing the risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart failure in persons with hi...

Tingling tongue and sore mouth

I have been taking Indapamide for 18 months in December 2017 I developed a tingling sensation on the tip of my tongue which got progressively worse, eventually affecting my whole mouth and lips. I went to the doctor twice but they could find nothing wrong. In mid January I read an article on line about burning mouth syndrome which said that a potential cause could be blood pressure medication, so in desperation I stopped taking Indapamide, within a day my symptoms started to improve and there days later have almost disappeared. Has anyone heard of Indapamide causing this problem. ## Yes I also have this sore burning tongue, but mostly on the one side of my tongue. I am soo frustrated I actually made an appointment with my mouth hygenist. I was thinking that it must be something wrong in...

3 weeks on Indapamide, not feeling good

My doctor switched me from Amlodipine to Indapamide 3 weeks ago because of a rash I developed which she believed was caused by the Amlodipine. Since starting on the Indapamide I have suffered regular bouts of nausea, I have pain in my joints, my insomnia (which I admit to suffering from before) is much worse and I feel anxious and depressed. I've got a follow up appointment with the doctor in 2 weeks so am wondering if I should stick it out until then. The problem is it seems that all of these drugs have nasty side effects so, if you keep changing, you just lurch from one set of problems to another. Feeling really fed up. ## All medications carry the risk of causing side effects, according to NIH reports, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and ...

prexum plus 5mg versus prexum 5mg

what is the difference between the two, prexum plus 5mg versus prexum 5mg. My pharmacy insists they the same, then why the difference with the plus? ## can i take prexum plus 5mg if Dr prescribed prexum plus 4mg pharmacist gave me 5mg ## Hello Debbie, From what I can find on these drugs the only difference between the two is that Prexum Plus also contains the active ingredient Indapamide - 1.25Mg. Indapamide is used to reduce high blood pressure and reduce extra salt and fluid in the body. If your doctor is prescribing your Prexum for the use of the active ingredient perindopril arginine then there will be no difference between the two. I hope this information helps.

Severe pain in hips

Good day. I have been taking Indapamide for 8 weeks now after my previous bp meds and water pill (Amiloretic) caused me severe heart fluttering and chest pains and a general feeling of "something being wrong with my heart". All of these "heart problems" subsided but now im left with unbearable pain in both my hips. I can hardly walk. This Indapamide is the only medication that has been changed. Could my hips be so painful because of it? It is really UNBEARABLE and no pain pills or muscle relaxants seem to help. I have taken Alkaline powder too, but with no effect. If anyone has any similar findings, please share with me. And just for the sake of interest. So many people are taking Prexium/Prexum/Pearindopril. My husband used to cough sooo bad that he was diagnosed with b...

I am on Prexum Plus and have been told to switch to Prexum in order to loose excess water. Is that correct? ## I was first on Prexum which did not bring down blood pressure. Then switched to Prexum Plus which has a diuretic ingredient and this helped. ## Prexum Plus contains the diuretic Indapamide and Perindopril to help lower blood pressure, treat certain cardiac conditions, and remove excess fluid from the body. Indapamide problems

I've been taking ramipril and amlodipine for several years with no problems but last week my Dr prescribed indapamide. I feel sick, headache, lightheaded, dry mouth and generally awful. I've read that its side effects are "minor and transient" but I don't know if I can wait until they go away. Any advice from anyone please? ## Did you doctor mention why they were changing your medications? The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. If your doctor had you make a sudden switch, then you are likely also experiencing some withdrawal effects, along with the new side effects. Are you on any other medications? Are you being treated for high blood pressure? ## Yes I have high BP. I also have...

Severe breathlessness after stopping long term natrilex

Why would I have severe breathlessness after stopping natrilex the doctor has tried a number of times even my cardiologist has taken me off it and the same thing happened after many scans nothing showed the local gp started it again 4-5 days later breathing returned to normal but now it's the probable cause of gout in knee so would like to stop natrilex ## Hello, Winkey! How are you? Did you stop it abruptly, or did you taper off of it? If you stopped it abruptly, the breathing issue may be due to some withdrawal effects. While this medication isn't habit forming, your body does get used to anything you take regularly for a long period of time, according to the NIH, so some withdrawal or rebound effects may occur. Are you on any other medications? And yes, it has been known to c...

Indapamide Discontinuation

I've taken Indapamide for many years, as well as Spironolactone. I've lost about 50 pounds and my doctor gave me permission to stop Indapamide and keep taking Spironolactone. I also check my blood pressure daily. Since I stopped taking Indapamide about 3 days ago, I'm interested in knowing what side effects I can expect from doing this? ## @Rosalie, Depending on how long you've been taking Indapamide, withdrawal symptoms may be non-existent. The following clinical study by NIH also depicts no withdrawal symptoms being associated with Indapamide after 10 years of review: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/4077233 On the contrary, if you google "Indapamide withdrawal symptoms", you will find mention of: dizziness, fatigue, headache, loss of energy or weakness, muscle cramps o...

Hi, I am taking pearinda 4mg which is a generic for prexum together with indapamide 2.5mg is this safe ## Hello, Versh! How are you? Yes, as long as they have been prescribed for you. These medications are often prescribed together, to help lower someone's blood pressure as fast and safely as possible, or to treat dangerous cardiac conditions. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, hypotension and dehydration. Is there anything else I can help with?
