It is readily available over the counter and is indicated for the treatment of the symptoms of the common cold and allergic rhinitis, such as runny nose, itchy eyes, watery eyes, and sneezing. If they are closed then call the pediatrician's office - they almost all have an after hours answering service for situations like this. Can it be used nightly for 1-2 weeks to help eliminate fluid in the ears of a 55 lb, 5-1/2 yr old? ## The active ingredients listed (Brompheniramine and Pseudoephedrine) are found in a number of medications. One brand is Bromfed-DM syrup (NDC 54868-6377) which also contains Dextromethorphan. It's a combination cough suppressant, antihistamine, and decongestant for treating symptoms of the common cold, flu, & allergies. In reading the product label (PDF) for Children's Dimetapp Cold & Allergy (which contains Phenylephrine instead of Pseudoephedrine), it says that it is not indicated for children under 6 years of age.
