Xarelto And Channel Blockers
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have afib and after ep study they put me on xarelto and diltiazem cd. The channel blocker has completely kept my heart rhythms in check. I would like to get off the xarelto as I believe the joint pain in my hips and the lack of energy when I exercise is caused by the xarelto. My blood pressure is normal. Is the xarelto solely for stroke protection and will it be too dangerous to get off it? I am 73 and otherwise very healthy.

I would talk it over with your doctor, but if you do go off xarelto I'd start with fish oil, and vitamin E etc. Also my chiro gives me arginine it's great for your heart. I to want to stop the xarelto and do something natural. anyway this is just my own opinion as to what you could do, take care.

I have afib with a 0 CHADS2 score. I am on Xarelto and diltiazem. I would like to drop the Xarelto and take a daily aspirin. I stopped an 80mg aspirin when I started Xarelto. Should I go back to the baby aspirin or should I take a full aspirin.

Thanks. My regular cardiologist said daily baby aspirin might suffice. My EP cardiologist wants to keep me on xarelto.

Hello, Martin! How are you doing?

Those side effects could be due to either medication, actually. The Xarelto is used to help prevent blood clots throughout your body, not just those that may cause a stroke. When you have A-fib, it can sometimes cause clots, so medications like this are often given.

However, you should speak to your prescriber about the side effects, to help discover which medication is causing them and what can be done about it. You may be able to just switch to daily Aspirin, or something else.

Is there anything else I can help with?
