The name on the bottle is 1mg ODT and says dissolve by mouth is a light yellow shaped pill with # 042 on one side and like a little moon on the other side

Did you mean the numbers 024? If so, yes, that is a 1mg orally disintegrating Alprazolam tablet, a generic for Xanax that's manufactured by Actavis.

I just got the yellow round 1mg xanax pill for the first time. I took my normal two. I chewed them and they mostly dissolved before I swallowed them, but I didn't know you're supposed to orally disintegrate them in your mouth, so I swallowed some pieces. Will I still get the same effect as if I dissolved them totally in my mouth?

Without the number on your pill who knows what you have as color means nothing. They can be IR,XR, or the oral sub lingual Xanax. Also available in an IV
