Xanax Bars Withdrawal

Updated

I just had a bad withdrawal from green 2mg bars. I have taken anti-anxiiety meds for years, mainly xanax. I will not take them again! My w/d consisted of migraines, hallucinations, tremors,, catatonic states of mind, extended stomach and just not wanting to live. My Dr. put me on 2x 1mg. pills per day now and I am feeling a little better after 1 week. I can't shake the migraines and I am now wondering what is wrong? I only took the bars for 2 weeks! Can someone tell me what went wrong?

You were suffering from the early stages of Alprazolam withdrawal. Your Body was in effect shutting down. I spent a week in the E.R./Hospital 6 years ago over this and came close to losing the battle

I'm sorry about what happened to you, Sue. However, Eddy is most likely correct, though neither of us are doctors to say so for certain.

But this medication is known to be habit forming, as reported by the FDA, and the time frame it can take for it to happen to someone can vary from person to person. It may only take a few weeks for some people, and it could take months, or years for others.

It doesn't mean that something went wrong, so to speak, just that your body doesn't do well with a sudden withdrawal of this medication.

It would be best to inform your doctor of what happened, to be sure and to have yourself checked out.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Thanks for caring. It is people like you that make everything easier. I am under Dr care and taking the slow withdrawals. I'm down to 2 pt. 5 mg a day now and doing better. I have alot of other physical problems as well. I had cervical spine fusion surgery 3 years ago, then hip replacement, then lower lumbar fusion so I have been through a lot. I am scared to death of hospitals. I have had Father, Mother, brother and 4 year old all pass in hospital. Been through death and life. Thank you for your thoughts!

Sue I read your post again and although the symptoms you have been experiencing sound so familiar, if you were only taking Xanax for two weeks, I'm just not sure it could be a withdrawal. How many 2 mg bars were you taking during this period? Were you on a lower dose previous to this? Stay away from the Fusions if you can as well!

I need to read posts better, I see you have been taking Xanax for years. I actually was reading emails off my Ceiling when I decided to take a shower and get to a Hospital. I went about 2 weeks cold turkey and experienced just what you describe. The key is to take as little as possible!

To Eddy! Thanks Eddy, I was taking 2 bars a day. Then I ran out early and got to dr. She put me on 1 mg. twice a day. I'm OK now. That scared me. I thought that I was dying. Thanks for your help!

Why when I walked into our local E.R., the Doctor was amazed that I could converse with him. He diagnosed me as "Walking Critical" and every test they did was wrong. I mention death because I WAS dying. I was also pretty sure why I was in this E.R. yet afraid to tell the Doctor my personal diagnosis, Alprazolam withdrawal and let the professionals do their job. I was then invited to stay for a week. Please take care!

Hi Eddy Sue! I was on 4 1mgs a day for 15yrs an taken off slowly. I was off for several months and taking clonopin.. My new dr decided to put me back on xanax at 2mgs daily. I got 20 bars and abused them. I could not get more until my next refill. I a a now back on 1x2mgs a day and still don't feel good.. I thought about clonopin again but they don't work for my anxiety now. I tried my friends. Do you think I have some seizure seizure disorder now?

Colonapin Sue should have worked somewhat like Xanax. Whatever you do don't spook your doctor. 4 mg a day is a strong dose and honestly I've never abused Bars knowing how poisonous Xanax can be. I was on a 1 mg dose and my Doctor just doubled them to the bars one day. I think part of the problem with Xanax is dependence and rebound anxiety, having to see the Doctor, the new laws, and the withdrawal. No I don't think you are in any danger at this point but depending on the extent of the abuse it is possible to still be suffering

Eddy, sue again. Do you think it's possible that I have become resistant in some way? I am having bad headaches and not abusing. What do you think I should do now? Curious. I also take pain meds which I am also done withdrawaling from. Maybe it was both withdrawal at one time. Ms contain withdrawal, but that is all the dr is taking me down on my pain meds. Maybe both was too much for me. Write me back.

Yes it is possible as you mentioned you binged on 20 bars along with your prior 1 mg use as we build a tolerance making the withdrawal that much harder. I have been told Benzos are the worst medicine to withdraw from and I believe that. I get headaches from smashing my head twice and a semi truck crash but that you really need to speak with your doctor or a neurologist about.

Hi Eddy! Sue. I like talking to you. You have been so helpful to me! I am getting better day by day now and I am taking my xanax like I am supposed to. I learn alot from you I! I am fighting a resparitory infection and taking keflex for it. That whole withdrawal caused alot of problems for me and I think with friends like you, I can keep it together. Thanks, Eddy, Sue.

Sue, on my second day of a 5 day stay I told the attending Doctor about stopping Xanax. He immediately put me back on Xanax and because my vital signs were in the danger zone he gave me Levaquin by IV as he felt I was also battling an infection. I was clear that my stomach and heart hurt. I did get better daily and that is why I have limited tolerance for those who use this medicine to feel high or have fun. I could have written a book for the 2 weeks preceding getting to the E.R., every day was a different experience. Continue to get well and take it easy too!

Did you get them from the pharmacy? In Orlando there are counterfeit green bars everywhere so only go through a licensed pharmacy. Otherwise I couldn't explain why a different brand of aprazolam would put you into withdrawal. I was recently prescribed the light green bars made by Darva and they were very week so if the pharmacy changed manufacturers that could be it also but I don't think they would really put you into bad withdrawal. Are the 1mg xanax your taking now green? I may be different but I've also have been taking xanax for a long time and going from 4mg to 3 shouldn't be bad. Just go down really slow if you want to get off of them. Hope that helps.

Yes. I have thyroid disease, lupus, and very high blood pressure. I also have had a heart attack and 3 heart stents. I am not what you would Call a well person anyway. My dr ran some blood tests 1 day ago and wants to see me tomorrow. Something must be wrong! I am cuddled in corner scared to death! All I can do is pray it's not serious. I still feel as if I am dying! I am 60 and I have been through alot in my life. I could write more but back to my corner. I hate Ers and I would rather die at home. Too many surgeries! They treat a person like drug addict.

Yup. They make you epileptic. Try exercise b4 meds, esp. Xanax and klonopins. Wish I'd tried normal exercise before a quick sleep fix ..workout as best u can, tire yourself. Screw pills..only on a really bad bad day then no more (2-3 days, then done). I've been there 3-4 bars a day for 5-7 years, seizures etc. I saw the light. Wean, workout, and live a great life before too late. Medical marijuana helps tons. Also you need to stay healthy. Good luck.

Hi Eddy! Now xanax is just making me sick. I want my Dr to give me clonopin. My dr keeps switching me from xanax bars to 1mgs. I take xanax now of any kind and it gives me headaches, fatigue and alot of pain. Any other suggestions for anxiety? Clonopin works. Can I just switch, and not feel withdrawal from xanax?
